    This is for real an ikea hack, unlike those tutorials that use the term "hack" when what they do is glueing and painting the original ikea furniture

    Love it! However I wish they would start giving complete totals on pricing from start to finish. Not just pricing on one part of the project... Its cool that the drawers were only $20 but how much was the laminate board, hardware, and other misc materials?

    • @kmangaroo
      @kmangaroo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Lauren Love I think it would depend on where you purchase from materials and where you live..maybe that’s why they don’t give those details, they’re subjective to your location. Just a thought.

    • @feverspell
      @feverspell 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Why would they tell you how much something cost in Toronto if you don't live there? That would only be beneficial if everyone who watched The Sorry Girls lived in Toronto and bought their supplies at the same stores they did. All you have to do is Google the product and the price for it in your area.

    • @laurenlove6083
      @laurenlove6083 6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Kayla M I agree you are prob correct about the price vary per location however it wouldn't be that drastic of a difference. It may be off by a few dollars. But for example say this project cost the $40 total where ever they are. Again I'm just using a random number. It may be $50 one place, $46 in another, etc. But it would never be $40 in one place and$135 in another. Am I making sense? Lol or do I sound crazy? My only point is it would be cool to know a round about or idea of price range. But yes I'm sure you are right about prices being slightly different. Hope you have a great weekend!

    • @laurenlove6083
      @laurenlove6083 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      feverspell for the same reason beauty guru's tell you how much a make up pallet is or gamers tell you how much a video game is, or girls trying on swimsuits tell you how much they spent on them. Bc it's nice to have an idea of the price or bc some people are simply curious on what they spent. People are going to pay different shipping and tax on all of the things I mentioned above but others still say how much THEY spent on the things they bought. I'm curious on how much they spent on their project. Not how much it would cost me to do it. So who cares about where they are? Their location has absolutely nothing to do with people wanting to know what they spent on their project. Its a simple statement.

      Lauren Love no one follows an IKEA hack to a t, hardly anyone actually follows their tutorials anyway.
      But if you're curious (and lazy enough not to do your own research) here's some useless figures for you..
      In London UK for one floating shelf=
      IKEA drawers (£17 for 'two'): £8.50each
      White shelving (£7 for 60x30): £14
      L wall brackets (£2 each): £6
      Corner brace (£2 they should have used 8 but they only used 4): £16
      Wood glue (I don't know how many ml they used): £7
      White wood filler: £7
      Wood Screws (x38 short): £00.50
      Wall Screws (x6 long): £00.50
      Wall plugs (x6): £00.50
      (Electricity, tool rental, travel expenses and breakfast costs not included sorry)
      Total: £56 per floating shelf
      (Approximate obviously)
      It will probably take you about 10 hours altogether to source all your materials, tools and put it all together. And good luck finding a sturdy work bench.
      You're life is different now right? This information was very important. You're welcome.

    I really don't know how you girls sleep at night with all the BRILLIANT ideas in your head! Wow, this was genius. And too funny it came now because I've had the Kallax shelf for years in my kitchen and got the doors for each cubbie when I bought it. Well, it wasn't very useful with the four cavernous spaces so it just sat there empty. Then, like the Christmas tree in the woods scene in Christmas Vacation with the light of heaven shining down, I saw that Ikea made drawer inserts. I now have a unit with eight drawers that I'm converting to my tool storage (I'm a home DIYer) so I can easily access everything I need. Also I'm drilling holes for vintage style cup handles so it looks like a big apothecary cabinet. :)

    Regarding the imperial vs metric measurements, maybe you can do a poll to figure out what people would prefer and then the viewers can finally move past it once and for all.

    • @clairebarrett97
      @clairebarrett97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      heythisistiana I feel like if they want to stick to imperial for Americans they can, it would just be nice to have metric in brackets underneath or in a smaller txt size (or vise versa!)

    So i love this looks amazing ... Although once you have the box made putting the tracks just in the box would of gotten rid of the insert. Just a thought

    • @ShipperChick
      @ShipperChick 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree, it would have been much easier and quicker just to mount the drawer slides to the box.

    • @mauriceestelle4619
      @mauriceestelle4619 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Mud Puppy but with kelsey's way, it will eliminate the chances of the slides being uneven on both sides and looking wonky

    • @ahumanaperson
      @ahumanaperson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Then the walls would be too wide for the drawer genius.
      Kelsey's method perfectly solves the width issue but it also prevents you having to do WAY more math than necessary since she cut the frame to the Kallax measurements.

    • @KLB682
      @KLB682 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      human no?? You would make the sides of the frame to fit the drawers...

    You should call them FLYTANDE, floating in Swedish! Perfect ikea name in my opinion // a swede

    • @bangximdead
      @bangximdead 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Rebecca L ”Flytande” translates more to like “liquid”. “Sväva” is something that is levitating without any support. With that name, we also get the ”ä” in which is super Swedish :) / another Swede

    I just put together the Kallax 2x4 cabinet along with the door insert and a 2-drawer insert on Saturday for my conversion van. I like the idea of using 1 of these 1/2 height drawers to make a floating cabinet by itself. My only issue with these drawers (because I am using them in a moving vehicle) is that the drawers pop open. Yes, and what's funny is that it's only on a right hand turn. Sure a match pack will work. Gotta figure out a way to apply friction until opened by hand. Also, it's a good idea to glue the hardware in since it's just MDF.
