The novel series by S.D. Perry actually does explain the meaning of red and white, they were actually two separate divisions of Umbrella. Red Umbrella was the bio-weapond division while White Umbrella was the Pharmaceutical and business division
S.D Perry’s book series is not canon but that should be the canon explanation

Fun fact, umbrella created the first aid sprays, and the first aid sprays have a small amount of t virus in them to promote rapid healing, which is most likely the reason why the protagonists can all get bit by zombies and not get infected, they have an acquired immunity without realizing it.

Technically cloning is a thing in the games as the T103 Tyrants were produced in 1998 from modified clones of the T-002 Tyrant, and Sergei Vladimirs clones were instrumental in the tyrant project.
Cloning is also in code Veronica as the Ashford twins are genetically modified clones of Veronica
Liking the movies or not, the point of Alice was being a bioweapon just like a tyrant, they just took that concept of the games and changed the result of mutation by virus from creating a giant monster to making human capabilities evolve, the viruses granting people super powers without turning them into mindless mutated creatures (unless they want to, in some cases) was used in the games from the initial titles with Wesker, Alexia Ashford, and Manuella Hidalgo to more actual titles with Natalia, Eveline, mother Miranda and Rose.
And all those zombie dogs you kill at the Spencer Mansion? Clones. Umbrella wanted quality control so they kept track of which dog they experimented on had the best results as a Bio-Weapon and then cloned it. Different genetics would give random results when using the T-virus, they wanted consistency hence the cloning. They do that for a lot of their B.O.W.
The tyrant plant in Survivor is heavily implied to be clones. It's also alluded to that the player character in Umbrella Corps. (Ugh). Is actually a clone of HUNK, slowly taking on his traits and habits by the end of it.
I got a few flu shots from that RLSW Biotech company a few years back. One of the doctors told me I was "a real G for choosing them."

Spencer’s Letter to Miranda in RE Village actually says he was so inspired by his time with her that’d he’ll make the logo of his new company an Umbrella, inspired by the symbol they saw on the caves.
It doesn’t explain the coloring, but it’s definitely a clear inspiration for the origins of the logo’s shape. ⛱️

Another comment claimed the red represents the bioweapon part of Umbrella while the white represents the business & pharmaceutical part. Did not factcheck so idk how true that is.
Here's a fact that few people remember:
Avon cosmetics released an anti aging ointment and injectable that was marketed looking exactly like the blue vials of T-virus from the live action Resident Evil movie.
The commercials were eerily similar, you wouldn't know the difference without the Umbrella/Avon logo showing on screen.

Regarding point 33, in my opinion, an umbrella was chosen as the company's logo because the Spencer family crest also casually resembles an umbrella and the idea of a pharmaceutical company 'protecting' you with its products is perfect!

Village explains that the Umbrella logo came from Spencer's time in the caves where they found the mold, there was a symbol that looked like it. Point 33 was questioning why the company's actual logo is Red and White, since the symbol in the caves were colorless.

I remember first time playing Mercenaries in RE3 back in the day and seeing the mysterious man in the chair. I was a fan beginning with OG RE so I already knew RE2 like the back of my hand and I was thinking...you guys aren't fooling anybody, that's 100% Chief Irons. lol

Funny thing about the green umbrella logo company in China I actually wrote that in my project about the Covid outbreak for a project in March in high school. That was a fun time. I wrote it as a joke of course but loved making jokes with my cousins who were fans of the games.
It was March of 2020 so I made that project as the epidemic was happening 😂
I used to work for Amazon. During my last year and a half there, I found the brand name 'Umbrella' on several things. I also found Mann on mostly car parts. People are running out of ideas for company names and are stealing from video games, now.

The umbrella insignia is based off the insignia representing the 4 ruling families from Resident Evil Village.

I genuinely think Umbrella may be older and more established than it’s perceived. Because even though Spencer founded Umbrella Corp, it still doesn’t explain how far back their ancestors go or were involved with genetic engineering.
Because Spencer merely was inspired by the original Umbrella found in Romania. There was already an alliance of 4 Kings, in which Dimitrescu was already cultivating their blood borne disease.
You also have the Travis family that originally provided the outline for eugenics that inspired Spencer, with Travis’ roots later becoming Tricell, which folded into Wesker’s splinter of Umbrella’s ideology.
Also including Los Illuminados that was involved in Umbrella’s research on Los Plagas, and the Ndipaya tribe that originally cultivated Stairway to the Sun.
I don’t think Umbrella Corp. was just a company at all, I think it genuinely was a secret society of aristocrats across the world, like Freemasons or Illuminati.
Spencer only incorporated the organization into a company in order by the 19th century to obtain more political influence, which it did by contracting work with the US, Russia, and other major countries. He could just be the brainchild for a mass network of aristocrats whom the world hasn’t seen yet. Which we just saw remnants of the 4 Lords finally revealed, the inspiration for Spencer’s Umbrella Corp.
While Umbrella itself has history that traces throughout the millennia dating back to 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. I guarantee they were a secret society before Spencer converted the organization into a modern company as a cover for their aristocratic and demented culture.
I think all Spencer did was incorporate Umbrella into the company, and gave administrative access to aristocrats and politicians across the world. Which caused the downfall, collapse, and splintering of a centuries old society, not just a company.
This also explains why facets of government across the world are also corrupt. US, Russia, Edonia, etc.
The US was already infiltrated by Derek Simmons who was advisor for the NSA, and also contracted with Umbrella Corp.
So we have proof that Umbrella Corp was in bed with American government.
Russia had Sergei Vladimir who was affiliated with their army, later becoming Umbrella’s head of paramilitary operations.
These countries aren’t just guilty of contracting with Umbrella and bioterrorists for bioweapons. They’re just as guilty for propagating, conspiring, and secretly protecting the bioweapons industry.
Umbrella was founded in 1968. That’s how old it is.

Yes Umbrella Corp. was founded in 1968, but again Spencer, Ashford, and Marcus ancestors go back centuries. While there’s still a footprint of eugenics manipulation throughout the centuries like the 4 Lords and Los Illuminados. Wether Umbrella Corp. acquired other’s findings like Spencer did with the Ndipaya tribe, or families became involved with the company. Umbrella Corp is not the sole entity that pioneered eugenics, they just industrialized/pioneered bioweapons manufacturing and research on an industrial scale.

4:18 it is hinted in Village that Spencer took the Umbrella logo from Miranda's ancestors. It probably was meant as a coat of arms.
Correct, but the village already had a pre-established reign by the 4 Lords. To which the Dimitrescu’s had already been cultivating a blood disease into their wine.
I think Spencer was the brainchild for Umbrella, he took a pre-existing secret society and globalized it by creating the network into Umbrella Corp. Allowing all these European aristocrats to have administrative control over the company which lead to its collapse.
I caught that too and I'm pretty sure that was the dev's intent (to make that connection clear), but he was specific with his wording. "Classic white and red umbrella."

My biggest issue with the resident evil movies besides Alice being a Mary Sue is how they handled umbrella. There's some seriously insidious stuff that happens with umbrella and the effect it has on a local town, I'd love to see a movie where they tackle that as well as focusing on the monsters.

Didn’t they explain in Village that Spencer stated he named the company after the villages symbol and stated how the symbol reminded him of an umbrella.
I always assumed the name Umbrella was a reference to the Nuclear Umbrella.
The idea that 1 nuke equipped country would protect non nuke equipped countries in exchange for allied status.
In Umbrella's case, the Bioweapons division is the nuke and all of its other divisions are "under the umbrella"
Little fact for 33, the Umbrella logo was chosen by the emblem in a Romanian cave confirmed by Resident Evil Village. Not sure why white and red, though the black is likely mold.
The color is from Spencer's family crest in REmake.
Even though Umbrella is done for the mainline games it seems like the BSAA is the next big threat as the company has become more and more corrupted has time has progressed with them even using bio weapons on some missions as we see at the end of RE8 where one of the soldiers is revealed to be a bio weapon. Also since more Resident Evil remakes are being made it’s likely we’ll see the company again in something like an RE5 Remake or a Code Veronica Remake.
Let's not forget there's also The Connections, and whoever Ada REALLY works for, to name just those two
RE5 has Tricell which takeover much of Umbrella's assets in Africa. While Code Veronica is obviously going to have Ashford branch Umbrella.

There is one more umbrella company inspired by RE Umbrella in Serbia. They used to have literal umbrella logo, but they changed it like 10 years ago. They are still called umbrella and they sell vapes and e-cigs

There's a welding company in my city called Umbrella Welding with the logo, but in green. I'm sure its used world-wide by nerds like us.

the umbrella logo is actually based on Mirandas crest. The red and white was added later to make it look like an umbrella. Village had a note with spencer outright saying he was borrowing it

According to the official wiki (and I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned this) the origin of the name and logo is actually from the "Four Houses" symbol shown in Village which is in the shape of a umbrella
It's confirmed spencer took the symbol of the 4 lords houses and rebranded it as the symbol for umbrella,he even stated tht in his letter to miranda

This is why I love RE0-CV more then 4-8 bc of umbrella. I loved the story about 1 company in control of everything instead of a new company always somehow getting a sample or making a new T/G/C virus.
Regarding Umbrella's logo I see several possible origin options:
1 Obvious: a minimalist version of Spencer's family coat of arms
2 Less obvious but my personal favourite: a reimagining of Stairway-of-the-Heaven (i.e. Progenitor flower) depiction by the Ndipaya people, which was a flower with 8 red and white petals.
3 That fckng RE8 retcon where writers descided it would be perfectly logical for a british noble to go hiking alone in the mountains of Romanian Nowhere in the winter only to be found by a random wench who accidentally found megamould in some cave and decided not to inject british noble with it for whatever reason: an obscure crest from obscure mechanism which caught Spencer's eye
Ya honestly I found it odd miranda didn't just stick spencer with a needle,and furthermore,I find it even more bizarre spencer wasn't least accidentally exposed to the mold since he was helping miranda with the research,even more bizarre tht he didn't steal a sample before he left the village,even even more bizarre is the fact none of his bodyguards or servants came lookin for the man

So in the games it has been around 20 years that Umbrella was destroyed but if you ask any gamer that knows about the RE series but haven[t played they will still tell you that Umbrella is still around and do all these weird things even though that out of the main 9 games they were present in 4 of them only...

Umbrella is basically an analogy to our real world’s corruption and globalization. They’re also more than just a company, they are politicians, oppressors, dictators, etc.
It’d basically be like if all of our leaders in the United Nations were secretly involved with the Illuminati. They’d have control over politcs, war, economics, society, and morality. Thus why their world seems so bleak and bogged down by corporate power. Evil is in control.
You really should look further into the Bavarian Illuminati, they are the real predecessors of the “Illuminati” they were actually founded the same year as the United States, 1776. Which is a scary fact because the Bavarian Illuminati was founded by members of some sects of Freemasonry. Why does this matter?
Because America’s founding fathers were also Freemasons and European. Meaning they did not originate from America as we know. This creates a conspiracy theory in which any of our founding fathers could have been involved or came into contact with the Illuminati or members that founded it, as some Illuminati members were also Freemasons.
The mere fact that the Illuminati and United States were founded 2 months apart to me is enough to see they are not a coincidence.
