    Your videos are fantastic and very helpful. I thank you very much. You have worked very hard to get to where you are. You have a nice home, successful business, and a nice wife. Why not enjoy as many years as you can? I lost my mom and dad both to cancer. Please stop smoking. I know you didn't want to hear that from me. You have given me lots of great advice so I'm giving some back. As I say I really appreciate the videos. You take care.

      Clark Eugene You are right Clark. We also don't stop loving someone if they can't stop smoking. Over 30 years ago I stopped, and it was the hardest thing I have ever done. But, I did it and sometimes we need a shocker in our lives to help us. Losing my parents was just that. I would never look down on anyone who can't stop. Its very rough, but can be done. I can tell Jeff is a great guy, and am sure his family and friends want him around for a long time. But, it is his choice. You take care Clark and have a good one.

      That's good to hear. The inverter so far has been running 1000 to 1200 watts all day. And at night it's been running about 400 to 500 watts. Love it, feeding into the grid 24-7.

    Nice mate i like that grid tie. The fact that you can have solar during the day and if you have wind of a night time then your still making Power. Yes Ginlong make nice products. I have Just installed a 3kw solar grid tie i am testing.

      I love it so far. It's just a 1kw grid tie and so far it has hit 1240 watts output.
      It's been running and putting out power 24 hours a day. Unlike a solar grid tie inverter.

    This looks to be a simple install. Can to speak more about the grid side of the install.

  • @AllThingsRamdom
    @AllThingsRamdom 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've got a great question for you wind turbine makers. Why is it that you always make the outer parts of the blades so narrow? They are wide at the base where they connect to the hub and get narrow as they move away from the hub... It would make more since to have the blades wider at the ends and narrower at the hub. The reason I say this is due to the simple fact of leverage. It would require less work from the wind if the blades were wide on the ends. It's like using a ratchet, it is much harder to loosen a bolt if you are holding the ratchet where the socket attaches and is much easier to loosen a bolt if you are holding the ratchet at the end of the handle.
    So why do you have the blades narrower at the tips and not wider? You could redesign the blades to have more structural integrity at the hub end of the blades and would solve the problem of weakness at the hub end of the blades if you make the tips of the blades wide not narrow.

    • @AllThingsRamdom
      @AllThingsRamdom 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should in theory take less wind to get it going due to the leverage factor.

    • @consaka1
      @consaka1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyson Capel leverage would be great that way but top speed would be way down. I agree though that it doesn't seem to make much sense to drag those tips around since their work contribution would seem to be non-existent or even just causing drag. I have heard they chop up birds pretty good though. ;)

    • @MandrakeDCR
      @MandrakeDCR 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn't a matter of blade integrity at the hub vs. the end. It is the efficiency design of the blade itself. Believe it or not, more surface area does not equal efficiency when it comes to windmill / propellers / wind-engine type blades. It is an entirely different aspect than the wing of an aircraft.
      Yes, if you are using flat panels, an old fashioned Amish windmill is pretty efficient for the design. You work with what you have. However, you can achieve much higher velocity (hence higher RPM for your turbine generator which equals more output) using a twisted and altering pitch angle, and more to the point, in a smaller radius as well.
      I think the easiest way I can describe it is this:
      Imagine whipping a stick through the air. Now attach a big triangle to it with the wide end out. You would feel the wind ripping wildly off the end of it
      Now take the same stick and attach something like one of the blades and whip it through the air. You would feel the wind glide off the ends with much less resistance as it cut around the blade.

    Your grid tie inverter, is it connected to a smart meter? The state I live in, must have permission through county to install grid-tie inverter and must be done by certified installers which cost big money for typical home owner.

I have a extra 1000 watts of panels and would like to hook them up to this Skymax inverter along with your General Freedom to my grid. • @MissouriWindandSolar
      @MissouriWindandSolar  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      A charge controller is not a voltage regulator. A 12 volt charge controller will disconnect the incoming power to a 12 volt battery at 14.4 volts so it won't overcharge.

    Jeff, I have a solar noob question and it's a doozy. :) I know you're not supposed to series different Ah batteries together. Does this apply to solar panels also? A 25 watter and a couple of 15 watters hooked together or do the panels have to have the same specs to do it? Like I say... probably a dumb, rhetorical question to most that visit this channel, but I'd like to know, please? :)

      +Týr Actually when I had my analog meter before my net metering digital Landis and Gyr meter the analog meter would absolutely spin backwards but the dials only spun forward. Yes you would get charged for back feeding the grid if you don't have a net metering meter and agreement setup with the electric utility.

      Sure, any roof. They make a aluminum plate for the rack that slips up under your shingles.

    people say ( maybe to discourage me ) that solar isn't worth it, cause by the time you pay the panel off, it is worn out. I don't know nothin bout what they cost or how long they last.

    • @MissouriWindandSolar
      @MissouriWindandSolar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, they are wrong. A solar panel will last 75 years, put out full power up to 25 years. They will pay for themselves in 3 to 5 years. Now you have 20 plus years of FREE CLEAN ELECTRICTY. Now you can tell all those people they are wrong. When people don't understand something they like to condemn it.

      MissouriWindandSolar, thanks. Do you have a video on quality of solar panels? I may start out with used one first.

      SolarSam Constructive criticism always welcome. I am by no means a solar installer. We just help the DIY guy get started in solar with some basic info. We didn't ground our solar racks in the video but there grounded now.

      MissouriWindandSolar I'd argue that this is the best youtube channel I have found for helping me understand how to get started. I have been recommending these videos to everyone I know. Thank you for being so helpful.

    Fail! Since you are installing on a metal roof you could have used a system that did not require holes.
