The secret to good toast is keeping your toaster clean, and it only takes a few minutes of your time.
Step 1: Bring toaster to sink
Unplug the toaster and set it near a sink to minimize clean up.
    Warning
Never immerse your toaster -- or any electrical appliance -- in water.
    Step 2: Brush off crumbs
Insert the brush into the toaster slots to gently brush the crumbs off the metal parts inside, moving from top to bottom.
    Step 3: Empty crumb tray
Lift the toaster, remove the crumb tray underneath, and dump the crumbs into your sink.
    Step 4: Clean tray
Clean the tray with the sponge and mild soap or dishwashing solution. Rinse and dry the tray before you put it back.
    Tip
If the tray isn't dirty, just brush the crumbs off and insert it back into the toaster.
    Step 5: Shake toaster
To get any remaining crumbs out, turn the toaster upside down over the sink and shake it a few times.
Step 6: Clean outside of toaster
Wipe the outside of your toaster clean with a little diluted vinegar on the cloth.
    Tip
If any bits of plastic bags or containers have melted onto the toaster’s exterior, apply a little nail polish remover and then wipe it off.
    Step 7: Enjoy
Admire your toaster -- it looks like new!
    Did You Know?
Before electric toasters were invented, people toasted their bread over an open fire, using a long-handled fork or metal frame.

Dump the crumbs in .. the sink? Just put them in the trash. No point in adding to the risk of pipe clogs.

How about dumping all the hard pieces in the garbage can instead of the sink? The sink drain is for liquids, not solids, unless you want a clogged drain after time.

I bought the toaster because my old one was not big enough for wide slices of rye bread th-cam.com/users/postUgkxE7HOOpW0eh4vbVGAB_r_cURwoxZxpZPA and it was wide enough for huge slices or, if the bread is narrow, four slices at the same time. It has a defrost setting which is great because I keep my bread in the freezer, and a rack that you can use to heat rolls. The rack will even reheat cold pizza! It does get hotter after the first slices are toasted, so for subsequent slices you need to reduce the toasting time.

My toaster had only a slide tray rather than have a a door that could be opened like my previous toaster. So I took it to the bathroom and used the shower head to wash out all the crumbs. It took 15 minutes get it completely clean. I then let it dry out over several days. Now it looks brand new. It was amazing concerning how much crumbs were still inside even after cleaning the tray.

Purchasing new is the only option. Once the crumbs start burning inside, they adhere to the sides, forming brown stains resembling rust that are non-removable and impossible to clean. It's better to opt for those inexpensive ones from Aldi/Lidl that you can recycle and repurchase if needed.

    there is a better way:
cram the toaster with bread until you can't pack in anymore
use an extension chord to run the toaster to the oven
turn the toaster on, and set the oven to 140 degrees
this creates a "slow burn", after 30 minutes or so the fire will have burned off all the excess crumbs.
don't actually do any of this you'll ruin your toaster and start a housefire

How do you power up a toaster?

Turn on the Toaster and rub the insides with a fork. However, forks around toasters are dangerous, and you should cover it with a wool cloth

I wish toasters didn’t come with a crimp tray. Just let the crumbs fall out the bottom so we can wipe it up as soon as it happens. Instead of forgetting about it for a coup of months and have crumbs falling all over the counter anyway. Or provide a mat that the toaster sits on and we can just wipe it off or dump it into the sink or trash can. I’d prefer not to have to pull out the tray because it causes more crumbs to fall on the counter either way. My adolescent son uses the toaster more than I realized… the crumbs add up quickly. I hate those trays. JMO

i mean, you could take it out but then heat would escape through the bottom. a ceramic plate under it would work to protect whatever is under it while catching the crumbs. would be nicer if you could take it apart simpler for thorough cleanings.

I was going to say 'another bulletin from the Ministry of the Blindingly obvious', but judging by some of the comments, some people really DO need to be told how to do the simplest of things..... how do these people hold down jobs, raise kids???????

Why bother with vinegar on the outside? Just use the same mild dish soap.
