- Learn how to fix the Steam Deck black screen which is not responding to touch. The black screen of death issue occurs quite frequently on the older software versions of the Steam Deck, but entering BIOS mode will most likely solve the issue.

Thank you so much. My Steam Deck dropped to 10% power, and I plugged in my phone's charger(which is 65w instead of the stock 35w charger; this may have caused the problem, but I don't know), and everything dropped to 5 FPS. I attempted a reboot, but after displaying the Steam Deck logo it went into a black screen and did nothing.
After watching this video and clicking "Continue" in the BIOS, the issue was resolved.
same happened to me, was lazy to pickup the charger and left it chraging with phone charger while downloading, it went to 0% and never turned on again...

If you are having this problem and these fixes dont work, try turning the deck on (so you can hear the fans and feel the haptics) and just leaving it on and leaving it alone for 1-2 hours, then it should be fixed. This reliably works for me.
Doing this currently. Is it normal to have the black screen blinking on and off and the fans? Should the charger be plugged in?

@@SonGoku-zk8pu I finally did get it back working normal. But I had to do a factory reset by holding power and options button down. I didn’t lose any important data since my games were on an sd card so that’s a relief.
I had to do a factory reset also and lost everything not on my sd cards

after modding re4 rightnow i put the .dll for reframework in the game directory and i got a ctd then the capcom crash window opened in desktop and i was trying to close it using the touch screen and i got a black window. brightness was up and i can hear the sounds of the ui. i tried to blindly navigate the ui to restart or shutdown and i managed to do so and the screen was still black. THIS VIDEO HELPED!! i did the 20sec hold and my steamdeck is back to normal. THANKS A LOT!!

here's another help when the deck isn't starting and there's no LED light whatsoever: you can press and hold " - " and " ... " and then press the power button. This will reset the whole system and it worked perfect for me. I got the advice from steam support, which I can recommend

You're the man. Another video had me going to the bios but didn't explain the volume up button holding properly. You're the only one who noted you have to keep the volume up button held down that long.

Hey if your using that emulator do you by any chance know of any safe places where I can avoid and report the hold of the Nintendo switch Bios on a website. I just gotta make sure I avoid them

So I just fixed mine, had tried shut off restart etc etc, nothing working, just coming on and the screen staying black- this was after having had it in sleep mode and then not using it for a couple weeks. Saw someone else suggesting to let it run flat again, then plugging in and putting it on- so I turned it on and left it unplugged and have just come back a few hours later where its run out of battery, plugged it in, turned it on and it worked straight away, no more black screen and is working like normal!

Nothing in this video initially worked for me and I was fearing an RMA was in my future. If you are facing these issue I found his steps in the video work well if you disconnect the battery. The cause for my issue was a half way completed update. Once I booted into Steam OS and finished the upgrade I re attached the battery, and finally I was able to boot again.

The issue imo is constantly using 3rd party charger instead of only using stock. Will not be getting another steamdeck until this gets sorted out. It's also happening to the Oled version.
While this does fix the issue for me. It's only temporary. My steam deck use to never do this but now every so often, my steamdeck is booting into this black screen and requires me to perform this long power hold again.
I just experienced this. I turned of my Steam Deck complete once and tried turning it back on but nothing but a black screen with the fan running. I eventually got it working again from repeatedly turning it on and off but does anyone know what causes this? So that I might not have to deal with it anymore?

My steamdeck seems to turn on with the fans running and the touchpads vibrating but nothung on the screen. It seems to turn in and off? Im not sure. I tried all the methods but nothing.. any advice?

Tried it and the fan just runs. No chime. Tried every fix possible the past month, even detaching battery cable, still bricked. Dead after 2 years of light use.Too many SD getting bricked and RMA'd. They should really fix this major problem.

yeah got the black screen of death but none of these work, i even docked it to a tv and updated the steam deck and the screen still wont turn on. bunch of BS
Same thing here. If all the reboot shortcuts don't help-I believe you can try doing the factory reset from settings with one of the more recent SteamOS updates. And if that somehow fails its into reimaging the deck. Backing up your files and downloaded programs would be the ticket before the last 2 options. At least docked works for us! That's a big up!
Valve support was very quick to repair my deck for nothing.. and when it failed again short time after agreed to RMA and send me a new device. Literally arrived a few minutes ago.. lets see..
