"Its not perfect" is definitely the best way to sum up all of the steam deck issues, though I really love the hell out of mine. Since its x64 based I feel way more at home and safe troubleshooting. Currently running memtest86 on mine for fun (I dont expect any issues, but figured I might as well to save me some time later).
I've gained 15 pounds n my chances for a girlfriend just went out the window, but I'm still glad I got it LOL.

I heard there were a lot of issues with Steam Decks. I just got my replacement back after having to do an RMA on my first one. I couldn’t play my deck without it plugged in. Even at a full charge, it would immediately shut off after unplugging it. Tried everything but had to return it. The replacement came back pretty quickly and so far so good! Still loving it!
I hope I will have the same experience as yours, I have the exact same problem and waiting for Valve to allow the RMA process 🤧

@@paulruffy8389 they accepted my request within 24h after they asked me to re-image the deck , unfortunately they should have send me 2 pdf files for the return and they forgot one lol, so since yesterday Morning I am asking for It so I can send back my deck before the week end but…they are not replying anymore 🥲 (guess I just need to be patient )

This is what happen to me the very first time I tried to boot up my steam deck. I did the same BIOS boot used here and so far after a few days and everything is still fine. I hope it all remains good from here on out.
had the same issue and the worst part was it happened during my vacation, so i had no chance for a reimage. someone in reddit gave me the tip to hold Vol - & quick access ( … ) and power on then after the churp sound releasing the power button. it brought me to the graphics APU cache clear. that saved me.

This looks like what happened to me twice. The internal SSD was full. I created the recovery USB, booted off that. Then I had to manually mount the partition then I deleted some files, emptied the trash. Then rebooted and worked fine
Valve needs to update the os to always leave like a gb or 2 free for os update space and stuff. Or another partition for the home directory that isn't the same as the os

2 days ago i experienced terrible things with my steam deck.. i was so scared that i wouldn't be able to play my game portably again for some time until i got a replacement. Thank god ! re-imaging it works and i am able to play again. The worst part is that i had to spend several hours of torture... 😢
I had exactly the same problems and workarounds, even after a complete reimage. i sent it back got a new one, never happened again. painfull but worth it.
dude, the fix is simple, just hold the power button for 15 sec and than boot again, its because the steamos got corrupt due to low space (bug), to prevent this keep some space on your ssd, you dont need to enter bios

@@AndehX no it ain't, fixed my steam deck alot of times when it was stuck at boot. holding down that button and seeing the light flash (charger light) you can try booting it again, if it fails try again untill it boots, than clean up your primary partition to have at least 20gb free to keep it stable. another thing it could be the microsd , try removing that one aswell. if you restart when pressing that button for 15 sec you will see the steamos logo with text restoring the os.
@@AndehX no it’s not I had the same thing happened to me twice . I fixed it each time by holding the power button.The problem is people aren’t holding down the power button long enough.

11:51 Holding the steam button will pull up the overlay that shows you all the steam button shortcuts and what they do. So it's a nice touch. I like to use the cursor movement and screenshot now and then. But there were 2 games that had tiny font in the launcher that I needed to use the magnifying glass to read. :P
Also do don't have to use the shortcut to close the game if the overlay function is working properly. Just press not hold the steam button, select exit game. Then it will ask if you're sure, just hit confirm and you've exited the game.
Another thing is you can select in the settings if you want to have the microSD card as your primary or the internal storage as primary. If you're having card trouble that is something to keep in mind. :D

Pro Tip: Holding down the "..." button brings up the same quick access menu, which I never hear anyone talking about in any videos. It feels weird trying to hold the "Steam" button down while also having to access any of the buttons on the left side of the deck.
@@fearsbecomephobias2129 The three dots menu is different, isn't it? Or does it change functions when you press and hold it vs. just single press? Gonna have to go try it now
@@saltyexxer8253 Yea it's got dual functions, if you press and hold "..." it''ll bring up the quick access menu same as the Steam button. Just a single press brings up the usual friends, notifications, and performance etc. settings.
Remove the memory card and try. I had a bad memory card on my phone caused same problem.

Mine was bricked for over two weeks. I just now finally got window's 10 on it and haven't looked back. I'm glad to hear yours is working again.
I just got mine and second day of use I'm getting nothing but a black screen when attempting to turn on. Found this while troubleshooting.

Ive noticed the sleep in desktop mode has this issue, where the system is still on, I never experienced it in game mode though. It also went away afterwards for me in desktop mode. Hopefully an update fixes this for you.

Mine is stuck on " verifying installation " I can not bring up my bios at all. I even disconnected the battery and still nothing.
I personally think the steam deck is amazing but the switch simplicity is a major 👌

People need to understand that the Stream Deck is a PC not a console, so you're gonna have the same kind of issue as PCs have, drivers crashing, sleep mode freezing etc.
That's the price of utility and configurability of PCs.
Consoles have much less issues like these cause they don't have much utility and configurability.

I'm sorry Marc, that's horrific for you to have to deal with. I've ordered a 64Gb Steam Deck but I'm cancelling it. The battery life worries me & the high number of OS faults that are getting reported every day. I bought an OLED Switch instead & I'm loving it. Maybe these issues will get ironed out with the release of Steam Deck 2 in a few years?

Would it help that i am a wave 1 user and haven't had any issues? People with issues are the ones posting on forums, here, etc, i can guarantee you there are more people with no issues thus no posting.
That's rough. Maybe just stick with the Chinese Offerings that still run windows. I hear theirs a 230$ one out soon. As compared to the 400$ 2016 GPD Win OG? your kinda nuts buying a pretty non-LTE non-bluetooth enabled gaming smartphone.
As it just sounds like your incapable of troubleshooting issues yourself. And don't want to bother with a good deal.
No issues here so far with the 256gb version

You can definitely still request a replacement. They reserve units for customers with issues.
It’s most likely a software issue not hardware. I had the same thing happen and was able to get it restarted by holding the power button a little longer. It only seems to happen when a game glitches or something.

The current SteamOS beta is causing a lot of these infinite logo screens. It's the best to stay on the stable branch to minimalize the risk of its happening.
I've had the Steam Deck for almost a year and I can say that it's incredible, but what really bothers me is the Steam OS. I'm tired of counting how many times I had problems when booting 😮💨
My bad experiences with my 512gb SD began right out of the box when the display did not turn on, not even the backlight. The devices chimed, you could hear the fans spin and feel the haptics from the trackpads. I bought an USB C hub to see if it'll connect to an external display and no luck. Tried out all the stuff you read online and nothing. I messaged Steam support where they replied 12hrs later (because they do not call directly) and after 3 days of back and forth messaging they then allowed me to start an RMA. So the SD gets shipped to their repair team in Utah, it'll be there for 5-10 according to steam support then another 4-8 days for it to reach me on something that took over a year to reach me after preorders and ended up costing as much as an XSX + switch lite

@@SeanWilsonMusic it was a nightmare. Once they reviewed the defective one in Utah, they sent a new from IL. My advice is try not to travel as you can not do anything with your package unless steam says so. What I mean is: let say you wanted to put a 'vacation hold' or a 'hold at location' because you're not home when it arrives, well you're going to have to tell steam to tell fedex what you wanted. As i wasn't home and couldn't do anything for my package, I just told valve to please just redirect the package to me. Which pushed the delivery date 2 days

So I have something similar. I got mine yesterday after ordering at the end of Jan. I hooked mine up to the charger, it switched on, connected to Wi-Fi and then updated. After it booted up again, it asked me to login to steam then the screen switched off. It has never switched back on again. I’ve tried absolutely everything, I let the battery charge up fully, let it die, different plugs, all the troubleshooting techniques. Nothing. Huge disappointing. The haptic feedback is on the mousepad so clearly something is happening but nothing in the screen. Absolutely gutted. The screen has literally been on for 5 mins.

Mine is similar ,but i have this problem everytime when I'm not using it around 20 minutes ,when i power up it get stuck at the logo ...but when i force shutdown and power on again it works. It's really annoying because i need to do it every time...and i don't know if my deck will break when i forced shutdown everytime

The only problem I have with the Steam Deck is the games crashing, no matter what Proton I use, now interestingly I don't get crashes while I use the PS2 emulator.
I have a similar problem with mine. I tried do dual boot mine (sd card method) and steam os works fine, but the boot, bios menus aren't working. When I charge my steam deck and try to open the boot menu, it showe up for 1 second and it turns off. I can't find any way to boot into windows. (The same happens when i remove the sd card)
Valve said things to me in my rma requests that no the buzzing noise coming from your device is within our allowance so it's fine. *Makes a static buzz constantly*
Now had it failing to boot or go into bios with inconsistent results more annoying since if it's inconsistent I'm worried their support will say it's fine again. Already sent it off once for RMA when they allowed it but they didn't do anything and said it's fine just had to send it off for the fault and an update that caused a boot loop looking for updates after factory resetting.
Absolutely tired and just want a refund and to never bother with it again but valve don't let you do that after a week, after recent updates the wifi keeps failing as well and says can't connect to the server regardless of 5ghz or 2.4 along side taking multiple attempts to just get the thing to turn on. Bleh this experience.
my friend steam deck was not turn on at all and i saw this problem a lot with others who have a steam deck. i wait for the newer ver of steam deck. buying the steam deck is a risk right now.
The way I fixed it was a hard reset and the way to do that is to hold power button for 20 seconds then power it back on. This really freaked me out but that fixed it first Time without messing with the bios settings
12/17/23 used a 3rd party charger now I'm here lol . Screen stays off , I can feel the pads still vibrate , makes beep noise like normal when rebooting , currently trying this bios thing , my fans r going but no image .. thoughts on this? Or someone else had this issue ?? Lol

I had this happen. It was when my internet provider was having outage issues on and off for a week because they were changing over to fiber. I was in the middle of downloading a game and it froze. I restarted and the same thing your experiencing happened to me. I waited a couple of hours put the system on charge and made sure my WIFI and internet were working properly sure enough it wturned on and acting as if nothing had ever happened. I then read on reddit later that if you are having issues with wifi/internet that it could cause issues. SO yeah maybe you were experiencing some wifi issues in your area.

Yes I think it's related to wifi. But let's be honest, a portable gaming device should be able to function just fine even with a bad connection.
You need to go to the boot menu. Then select clear user data to factory reset. You probably have a corrupted version of steam os causeing this.
I have a very similar issue. Except I also get the message 'boot drive missing or failed'. But on trying to fix it, it started up once okay, did an update and then the same blank screen. Restarted and same message.
I'll try what you did to fix it.
Note, mine failed when I tried to install The Blizzard ap.

I think my Steam deck is broken. I powered it down in Desktop mode and then I powered it back on but now it's glitching where it shows the mouse cursor and it appears and then disappears. It's just stuck on a black screen that keeps lighting up and then turning off repeatedly....I have No idea what to do now...😭
Why didn't you request a RMA? A lot of people on reddit did it with success

I had to RMA a second time. First one was a nightmare, second one has sound issues. Here's to hoping third time is the charm.
mine I cant download new games now everytime It "downlaods" it says cant launch due to storage error
The issue is that the deck keeps looking for wifi. You need to wait till you can see the wifi logo in the top right and disable it from there, you can do this even while the deck is still logging in. Hopefully valve will add offline booting soon.
I don't think that makes any sense otherwise everyone would have a terrible time with their decks
you should try to do a factory reset in the bios
perhaps, go into your bios there's a way to wipe your primary drive and reinstall the steam software. before you do anything like that, make sure you create the minimum size capacity thumb drive with 128 GB then install steam operating system with the latest software on it. You should try that.
What if it doesn't even show the logo, but the boot up sound plays?
Never had that issue with my steamdeck it works like a charm for me!

I have an entirely different BIOS. it only and exclusively shows me which boot device i want to use. How did you get this???
You could try pressing three dots buttons while booting to go into A/B boot menue. and it would also show boot logs on screen
Something that has been kind of irritating me on the steam deck is that recently with the latest update the keyboard will not show up unless you spam the keyboard shortcut. It'll show up in like the google chrome browser with ease but in games where I need it, I'll have to spam the steam+x shortcut multiple times to open it. Before this update I was allowed to open the keyboard even on apps where I didn't need it at any given moment. Has anyone experienced this with their steam deck?
They turned off automatic keyboard unless the os it self brings it up
Just press steam + x once, it sometimes takes a second to activate, but you shouldn't have to press it more than once
@@dramaticmudderer5208 oh yeah thats the thing though, it doesn't show up instantly like before with a single press. Maybe it's just my deck. It's not as bad as I'm making it out to be but it is annoying at times.
Gotta hold the power button for a little longer. I had the same thing happen.After the power goes off keep hold it and then try and turn it on again.

Bro you got to re image the steam deck. I had this problem just last week, and had it fixed. It needs a factory reset. You need a spare usb/memory card to download the installer needed. There is a tutorial on how to download the installer need to re image your steam. It sucks to have to deal with this, but I guess this is what we have to deal with for now.
If it keeps happening I will have to reinstall the OS again and that most likely will fix the problem.
Yeah I only had the same issue one time with beta updates but re-installing the os solved the problem for me and it never happened again.
And Marc since you got the 64gb, make sure you never ran out of storage especially if it's on auto update cause I heard that also causes this problem too.

i absolutely love my steamdeck when its running correctly but it does not all the time sadly!
i am stuck in an infinite loop in where the steamdeck tries to update games and never finishes it. so, unplayable right now and i am too scared to factory reset it! :/

First load default configuration in bios then save and reset. Couse that its a pc and pcs sometimes bios love to act funy no big deal.
I have the same issue but i think i know why i have it but i'm scared it's not good news. I needed to power off my Steam Deck cause i couldn't get out of a game in desktop mode and now it can't load. I even left it for few hours and still nothing, i hope i didn't broke anything

Weird, have had just one issue regarding not being able to turn off the Deck but fixed it by turning on store/demo mode.
Mine is kinda doing the same thing. I left it plugged in and now the screen won't turn on at all. I get the haptic feed back when it's on but that's it. I get no video out either when I hooked it up to my TV. I'm freakin out

@pauldonohue7536 nope, as soon as I explained the symptoms to valve they immediately started the return process, no questions asked and they diddnt try to trouble shoot either. Seemed like they knew there was no fixing it. I received a brand new deck about 3 weeks later, I sent the broken one out a few days after they started the return or repair process but I also had the original box to send it in. If you don't still have your box they'll send one. If your warranty is up I would still call because alot of people have had this happen. Good luck I hope it works out for you.
I'm having issues with my steam deck on day three, something similar but the screen won't turn on at all.
The Steam Deck isn't ready for prime time yet. It needs more work.

I got my steamdeck as first time update my system, it takes more 30mins to get in to the system with no screen on everything I restart it , and I still can't fix it
I have a power on with no display and have been going back and forth with Steam support. They keep giving me steps that power on after i've told them there's no power. I've never had so much back and forth to get a RMA on a product. They are almost defiant to help. I would avoid buying any Valve products.
Hi my steam deck don’t show the battery icon on the up right corner . And it still don’t show up when I enable it on the steam settings .
2. And my steam deck keep run on storage mode it’s stuck . Don’t start when I press power bottom but it start when I put in the charging cable and then I can take out the cable

My steam deck stuck on logo screen. İt's turning on but stucking on logo screen i tried too much ways but sometimes opened 2 3 times. Now it not opening
So mine just did this but after booting and working it just turned off again even though it has 36% battery
I had that issue with my first steam deck I was told it was a hardware issue had it replaced sadly my replacement ran into issues with the touchpads haptics not working correctly 😕

Same problem on mine i held the power button until it cycles the logo twice so maybe 30-40 seconds holding it the third time the logo poped up i released it and it worked turned on like usual. : also i run both windows and steam os so if anyone is dualbooting this method i tried worked just fine hopefully it helps some one
Ive had the same issue I tried emulation for the first time and then it got stuck in the boot loop. I did optimal changes and save exit and still same issue.
Are you getting Fatal Error: Steam needs to be online to update? Mine is stuck on a loop there. And did you fix your issue?

OOOOOH yeah, imagine if you could wait a little for the system to verify the integrity of files and turn on the system...

My steam deck is perfect but I have notice that my left joystick is starting to have some weird clicking sound. I’m worried if the left joystick real soon no longer will work. But from that I don’t have no problem
Mine does this the same even when i got it 2 days but i have it now almost for 3 months and still works
Does it have like a sticky noise when circling the stick around? Mine sounds a lot of sticky residue is inside it but everything is fine. Quite annoying.
love my steam deck but i dont see it lasting as long as my Switch. had my shit since 2018 and its still kicking but then again i guess being able to switch out the joycons from wear and tear helps.
I have had to rma my unit 3 times ,.I love the deck but the software it's highly unstable and leads to a lot of faults.
I get this when I use hdmi and when I unplug it to go handheld the screen stays black. Other than that this never happens to me, just curious if this was the reason it was black or does it just turn black during gameplay or something?
Just call them and get an RMA, It's defective. You're not going to fix it so send it back because it'll only get worse if you don't. Valve has NERDS for that. I'm hardware nerd and I would've sent it back the first time that happened. All technology has gremlins but your particular Deck is defective. Call them.
Have tried charging your battery? Linus Tech tips was right the product is incomplete.
I have been having this same problem since day one!
I installed windows 11 on mine and works amazingly. Not a fan of the SteamOS. Is buggy and you can barely play any games. Sometimes they open sometimes they don't for some unknown reason. Now my deck is literally a PC and problem solved. Love it!
Some how the os has an issue. Reimage it through usb flash drive. Should solve the issue
Have you tried reinstalling SteamOS from a USB drive?
Now it turns off and on just fine or you gotta do that every time?
