  • Please consider like/sub. After persuing and repairing a couple of oil leaks, we are now to the point where we still haffta wonder where the oil is going.
Obviously, a tired,old,1994 Geo Metro might be prone to burning some oil. This car has almost 300,000 miles on the clock. We are, at the moment, useing ONE qt(Valvolene for older cars, in the red bottle)every 1400 miles.
This car CONSISTENTLY lays down MPG numbers in the 45 to 51 range. So, on THAT note, fuel savings warrants that I feel the top end, Compression rings, valves, etc are good.Fuel savings also provides me with wiggle room when it comes to budget. The VR&P is expensive. BUT with careful observation, we might not haffta use it all the time.
I expect, initially, the cleaning effect will cause the oil on the dip stick to darken, almost immeadiatly.Because we are mearly topping off with the product, clogging the oil filter shouldn't be much of a concern.
We have around 2300 more miles to go before next scheduled service. That should give the one quart a chance to do what it can.If there is any positive effect, hopefully, we will see it as a need to top off, farther down the road.1400 miles/quart is the current oil usage rate.
When it asks for more oil(MAYBE MORE than 1400 miles?), we will again add the VR&P.
Depending on a few details (oil usage rate...how nasty the stuff on the dip stick looks) We might blow off the sheduled oil change and do it sooner or later, depending on how those factors present themselves.

@@chaingliderreddup4222 I'v e made my living, as a mechanic, off and on, since about 1988. I HATE nastyness under the hood of my personal whips. It helps speed leak diagnosis, and I believe, helps things last longer, as well.

New sub here. Remember to always use Valvoline Restore and Protect in your video titles as you track your experiment. A lot of people are following folk’s experiences with this new product.

Lake Speed also says you do not know how oil will work while mixed with another oil as the chemistries of the two oils mixed have not been tested. I would recommend changing your oil instead of adding it.

@@davidchappelle3212 Soooo....I'm an old, previously A S E certified, fart...working on an old tin can of a car(that I DO in fact care about).
I've found potential evidence (on youtube) that doing a complete oil swap MIGHT cause issues, as well.
My father taught me the value of patience, observation...and the art of "sneaking up" on something.
I respect and appreciate your concern. But, is my car and I shall do as I see fit.
We have a dip stick to observe for color and level. We have an odometer and a note app to help us keep track of useage(oil AND fuel). We have previous puffs of smoke to keep an eye out for.
Due to one particular video, I feel a complete oil change to this product might be a bit aggresive on such an old unit.
This is in FACT just my opinion...and we shall "sneak up on it"...observing and sharing as much as we can, along the way.

I wish they made Valvoline Restore and Protect in a "high mileage" version with the seal swell agents for leaking crankshaft seals and hard valve stem seals. You can probably make your own by adding two bottles of power steering stop leak to a 5 quart jug of oil. I wonder if they make a Castrol Ultra Clean in a high mileage variant.

@@qoph1988 Lol...what can I say? I enjoy wrenching...and I enjoy making sure my old P O S runs well. Accepting oil usage, when there might be a cure, doesn't work in my head.
Also, when this thing is happy, it's a VERY efficient package.
The first year I owned this car, it paid for it'self TWICE in fuel savings. So, it doesn't owe me a thing. As far as I'm concerened, those savings can gladly be churned into proper maintinance.
Please consider checking out other vids on my channel. Mostly about old car and shop equipment repair.
