Just when I thought all the jazz guitar greats were past tense with Jim Hall's passing! What a virtuoso! Of the many highlights in this recording, that walking bass he drops @ 4:45 is epic.
He is by all accounts a genuinely kind and humble human being who is very gracious and open with his knowledge to everyone he meets which just makes him even more annoying tbh
So expressive it even seems like he surprises himself. The mind body connection at a fidelity that his ideas permutate multiple times before they reach the strings. Flawless technique. True creativity. And a touch of wit. It doesn’t get better, only different.
In Australian we say, "Strewth...that is fair dinkum awesome. This guy is flat out like a lizard drinking.". (okay I actually hate Aussie slang...but there you go!)
Reinventing jazz guitar. Thank god for that!! Sick of shreddy arrogance...most important jazz musician since Bill Evans. This guy is a true genius and has a soul. It shines through his music
i have three amps, three effects pedals and three guitars...and ten fingers which try to make some sense of it all! lovely playin with a very lovely guitar LOL Kimmo
An upmarket tommy emanuel! I got bored playing solo for a Mayors banquet and wandered off on a jazz jaunt during a version of Moon river then revisited the melody to land the tune and got lots of complaints, one lady came up to the stage and tapping me on the foot said- "Our table would appreciate it if you just stuck to the melody!" ( silly Cow ) -MrSteven
how much u think that guitar costs ?? i will tell u...its on loan... it cost 80 grand.. fact.. i know who owns it ... i will tell u... tierney blanchford.. lives in west cork.. place called gineraghal... beautiful place .. he owns a lot of land and in his spare time he makes unreal guitars !! thats one of them !!
@@rudra2308 I guess that Metheny is probably not happy when he hears Julian play like this (and I agree this is out of reach for PM), especially since it is a Linda Manzer guitar that Lage is playing here. Metheny made Manzer's name, after all. It's peculiar how Metheny and Lage seem to avoid each other. Would be the most exciting thing to seem them perform together.
He's only 23 years old in this performance!!! What an absolute titan. Love this so much.
to be fair he was a jazz guru at 12.
Dude has been 30 for 15 years
You didn't have to say that. Do you know how much incompetent it makes an ordinary guitarist feel?
@@montysark you didn’t have to say that. Do you realize how little I care about how what I said may make an “ordinary guitarist” feel?
@@adamyoung7999 bruh chill. I meant it as a joke.
When you have such complete control of the instrument that you just have fun and let it flow. Amazing.
Classical, Jazz, Blues....Julian transcends styles. He is pure music.
The dynamics in this are absolutely insane 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I still think its his best guitar... maybe he has 10 of then in de closet....but he also makes a tele sound abs fab with a small tweed amp---!!!

It's almost impossible not to smile while watching this fantastic guitar player. Real living legend.
Most amazing performance I’ve seen in years. I’m an instant fan.
a little Joe Pass... a little Tuck Andress... a little Jim Hall... this is totally sublime
mindblowing performance from lage . my mind still can't fathom the talent of this artist.
He is by all accounts a genuinely kind and humble human being who is very gracious and open with his knowledge to everyone he meets which just makes him even more annoying tbh
oh he's genuinely nice and warm, almost to a fault! as a random aside, no drinking, no smoking, no drugging either.
😂😂😂😂
wow
Oh Jane
i wish i can express myself like this when playing guitar
So expressive it even seems like he surprises himself. The mind body connection at a fidelity that his ideas permutate multiple times before they reach the strings. Flawless technique. True creativity. And a touch of wit. It doesn’t get better, only different.
Fearless!
I like the Humor and personal enjoy that this young man exudes..
Incredible performance. Thanks for sharing
Damn! How hot is the sound of that flat-direction Maj7 hangin over Gm at the end of the phrase at 1:42? Freakin badass
I appreciate a lot. Thanks for share this. Astonishing as always.
And he is just having a ball! Amazing, and beautiful.
As smiley than humble. Love this guy.
Talent, and loads of it. Child of Music.
Your performance knocks me off my feet - in German: Das ist der absolute Hammer!!!
In Australian we say, "Strewth...that is fair dinkum awesome. This guy is flat out like a lizard drinking.". (okay I actually hate Aussie slang...but there you go!)
Julian Lage u r awesome. your expression is amazing
I can’t say anything about that performance except, Sublime!
Breathtaking ...
Reinventing jazz guitar. Thank god for that!! Sick of shreddy arrogance...most important jazz musician since Bill Evans. This guy is a true genius and has a soul. It shines through his music
He is amazing

1:43 to 1:46..... WOW!!
really incredible!
Fabulous!
thx a lot for uploading it again!!!!!!! i really missed this one!
Nothing extra to get between him, his guitar and the music. Contagious ecstasy.
always creative, an original voice
I love how he uses half-acoustic guitar`s echo with the space`s one...I worked in a museum once and always wanted to bring my gtr there..
i have three amps, three effects pedals and three guitars...and ten fingers which try to make some sense of it all! lovely playin with a very lovely guitar LOL Kimmo
5:19 almost puts himself to sleep with Freddie Green, but wakes up just in time
So dense with ideas, harmonic and melodic... wide range of influences... all played with flawless technique and feel. Ouch.
This guy and Matteo Mancuso are probably the brightest "new" stars out there (both have been around a bit by now)
A clear path to heaven.

I've heard him do that so many times lol
This is as we call it in Sweden, "snille och smak".
Google translate tells us "Genius and Taste." What a wonderful phrase! Couldn't agree more.
Do you have the rest of this concert/performance? I am trying to find him play alone together at this concert.
Genuinely increadible take on this standard.
Красавчик!!!

Something about this guy makes me feel like it's 1955
He's my god...

Capolavoro.
The guitar is literally gasping for air at points.
Here I go transcribing again

Do you have his performance of Red Prairie Dawn at Denison as well? I really miss that one!
Yeah!
When did he play!? I had no idea he was at this school, my alma mater and obviously missed the memo (or timing)
Timing madness
Dang. a full blown virtuoso.
What a great guitarist, reminds me o Joe pass

i thought that was a 40k guitar and made by a woman....?
He's like a cross between Pat Metheny and James Franco. A real genius.
Nick he’s way better than either

At this level no such thing as better, just different.
He got to the melody........eventually. Very talented though when I finally got into it.
Because it's all about you...
