- Do you remember McRobots? They were McDonald's Happy Meal toys extremely similar to (but legally distinct from) the likes of Transformers, Gobots, Robo Machines, and all those other transforming robot toys that were all the rage back then. I can't for the life of me remember which ones I had, but I too was indeed swept up in the craze for a bit.
I love these sorts of animated ads - probably more so now that we hardly get any new ones these days. This particular one was recorded in either 1990 or 1991, but it could be even older than that.
(Please remember that this is an off-air VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.)
one year later...I am still loving this!
Starscream.
They were later eaten by Unicron...
A being which devours everything in its way... so basically Unicron is American.
Quantum Surge c
And they were delicious
he did not, they came to earth so their human partners used them as a new battle game.
But one Retrobot Survived,he was a good burger.
I remember they use to have toys that changed into dinosaurs too. If only I was able to collect them all.
these were the best McDonald's toys ever! like if ur watching this in 2015 also these were
the absolute best wish they would bring these back but now all we get our cheap happy meal toys I still want these back!
imagine being the animators and voice actors who had to put this together...I guess a paycheck is a paycheck
Sometimes I wish I was born a few decades earlier, just so I could get one of those.
Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and collect those toys, along with other cool McDonald toys.
0:24 the real Guardians of the Galaxy XD
best. mcdonalds. commercial. EVER!!!
Even the box art is amazing!
Thanks for uploading!
I used to love those (and in a nostalgic way I still do!) I remember how happy I was when I opened my happy meal box and got the Big Mac toy. By far they were my favorite Happy Meal toys.
But looking at the animation of this ad, I would compare the toys more to the Gobots (who happened to be my favorites even over the more popular transformers).
Laurent Huor You know, you're absolutely right - consider the video description changed!
VideotapeFTW Thanks for the including the Gobots/RoboMachines in the description as well. :) And Thanks overall for uploading this gem of 30 seconds of pure nostalgic joy.
But the Transfomers influence can still be heard with the sound effects when the toys were transforming into their food version of themselves. :)
Laurent Huor You're very welcome! For some reason I see little video clips like this as sort of time capsules - they take you right back instantly to a different time. :-)
Holy crap, I've loved these toys forever, but never knew this commercial existed. Thanks so much for sharing! :-)
0Aberration You're welcome - glad you enjoyed it. :-)
SAME
=)
My favorite toy back then.
I had a coupleof these, the french fries and big mac. Probably the best happy meal toys i ever had. Brings back fond memories. Good job getting that old ad footage.
i STILL have mine, 37 years later, and my son is playing with them
“Not Munchoids,Radicons.”-Hamborgumus Prime.
I had the Big Mac, The Box, and the Drink transformers but I could never find the Fries when I was a kid. I even added them to my Autobots teams lol
I was 24 years old when I figured out these bois were absolutely tiny. Still love em. Finally found the fries in the thrift shop.
Wow I remember these. I managed to collect all of them. Still had them years later. Happy days.
When McDonald's was fun and not costing a kings ransom for a burger. I miss those early to mid 90s. I was watching woof just now and then Harry's mad wizzywigg which was filmed at my school
I remember seeing and getting some of these when I first went to France in '89; was kinda amused, and glad, when they launched in the UK a few months later.
holy cow! I didn't know this had an animated commercial! I was just looking for commercials so I could use them to talk about these things in one of my videos! I got a ton of these in a box of old (absolutely awesome) toys my uncles had as kids. these were some of my favorites. unfortunately, the ones I had were destroyed in a house fire years ago. still, the concept is so awesomely dumb that I can't help but love them.
thanks for the nostalgia boost!
You're very welcome indeed - nostalgia boosts are why I'm here! ;-)
I want to see this as a actual show based on transformers in like the late 80s and 90s
Jack Kirby must have done the backgrounds.
I always got the french fries transformer.
Go-Bots: Rise of the BURGERLORDS!
pretty awesome even if never seen the ad :)
The damn mchdonalds toy commercial has better animation then the damn show
They made toys that were better and longer lasting than takara
I had the french fry one!!!!!
So that’s where Aqua Teen Hunger Force came from!
0:14 is that the voice of G1 Huffer?
I wonder what the munchoids looked like?
What are they gobots
You're very welcome - glad you enjoyed it! They don't make them like this any more, do they?
Now Happy Meal toys are cheap and tacky but a lot more expensive.
McDonalds used to have the BEST happy meal toys.
Awesome advert.
Oh I had one of those! the fries one! Though I don't think I got it directly from mcdonalds but from some 2nd hand toy store.
Brings the memories flooding back, doesn't it? ;-)
You were lucky enough to get them from a 2nd hand toy store. It must’ve been a thrift store like good will or something.
@@myang12003 I don't think I personally bought them from a 2nd hand toy store. But growing up we had fuck all money, so most of my toys where handed down from my parents or picked up at thrift shops (didn't know there was a difference in english between thrift shop and 2nd hand store, in Sweden we say 2nd hand about both).
@APHEXHEAD No problem - it was an unexpected find on an old VHS tape. Brought back happy memories for me, too!
Let's go, Bakugan brawl!!!!
I seen this back in 2012/2013 on TH-cam.
Weird the robots were in squired by transformers
0:25 did they actually use the G1 transformation sound?
Haha that was me as a kid :)
Am I the only one hear a transformers noise
Oh wow...
release in 1987
This recording comes from either 1990 or 1991, but I'll take your word for it.
You know what McDonalds should do this summer (or whenever, but I think it would be best suited in the Summer), they should do these McRobo Changeables, only this time these Changeables will be like the size of the Go-Bots toys and they will be able to transform from a common McDonalds food product to a full size robot with the whole body and legs and arms and everything, plus it will have actual working weapons and a Munchoid plastic pop-up display/weapon shooting target [P.S. the Munchoids are a of evil Reptilian/Dinosaur warriors that gain power from eating a special substance known as "Nacku" that is found in regular fast-food grease witch, while fattening to humans, gives them unbelievable strength and power, but wears off after 2-3 minutes, they use this power to take over planets, so the Changeables disguise and shrinks (or as they like to call it "re-materialize) into the size of a regular food product, so they can transform and re-materialize big to give the Munchoids the surprise attack, cause dinosaurs have a hard time telling things apart, and I used the Munchoids because they said that in the commercials] it'll be like an actual transforming toy robot in the 80's, even the commercials will be like in an 80's commercial style with the quality and everything, here's some examples of the figures:

www.deviantart.com/seanrm/art/Big-Mac-297165891
www.deviantart.com/shinmusashi44/art/Krypto-Cup-Changeables-176962624
(of course these are just the prototype drawings)
But they won't just sell 7 toys all month, no, they will sell 7 new toys each month for 4 months during the summer (May, June, July, & August) each month will have new kind of changeable toys with different designs and their will be a commercial for each week:
Month 1 (May): 7 Basic McRobo Changeables for to start out the series
Month 2 (June): 7 McRobo Changeables Color-Changers that change colors with warm or cold water, and they change color into different flavors of the food products, cause 3 are based on chicken wraps and sandwiches that change from spicy to mild, 3 are based off milk bottles and ice cream that change from chocolate to vanilla, and 1 is based off a chicken 20 piece box that changes from a 20 piece Chicken McNuggets box to a 20 Mighty Wings box
Month 3 (July): 7 McDino Changeables, which are dinosaurs that change into McDonalds food products (including a T-Rex that changes into a Happy Meal box), who are created by the Munchoids with the Changeables Robot DNA (or "RNA" as they call it) to be an equal match to the Changeables, but they become rebellious and goes out to destroy the Changeables on their own, and these dinosaurs are more vicious than their 1991 counterparts, while still looking true to their disguise when they are in their food form, and they even have special weapons that they can attach to themselves
Month 4 (August): 7 Rare McRobo Changeables that when you get all 7 of those rare toys you can combine them into one big fighting robot
And everytime you get a figure you will also get a paper coin called "the Galacta Token" and if you get 3 Galacta Tokens, you can trade them in and ether get a full comic book or animated episode on DVD of your choice, each of them feature an adventure featuring the adventures of the Changeables and their new human friends, excited and adventurous 11 year old boy Travis Barnes, his super smart but is still not toilet trained (as a joke) 5 year old little sister Gina Barnes, and their beautiful and hot but extremely unlucky (although she does try to keep her cool) 15 year old female cousin (and babysitter) Megan Barnes, in their adventures to stop the Munchoids from stealing the food from the world and using it's power to take over the world, with new adventures each week that are based off the toys they are selling that month, and there will be different colored Galacta Tokens to tell which month is that token is for:
Month 1 (May): Green
Month 2 (June): Red
Month 3 (July): Blue
Month 4 (August): Yellow
put in commercials for the Happy Meals that looks straight out of an 80s toy commercial and this will be McDonalds's biggest Happy Meal Toy deal ever!
what do you think, would that be a good idea?
Well I'd go for it!
(P.S. Your DeviantArt links are broken, by the way.)
@@VideotapeFTW Thanks for the Deviantart notice, I already changed it
But who are the Munchoids??
People who _really_ like The Scream?
@@VideotapeFTW but are autobots or Decepticons
Methinks the Simpsons made fun of this ad.
Something about transforming candy bar robots, right?
The Mattel and Mars Bar Quick Energy Chocobot Hour?
simpsons.wikia.com/wiki/Mattel_and_Mars_Bar_Quick_Energy_Chocobot_Hour
That's the one!
#felicity4711 Uh... I don't think the hunger force can transform into robots or anything like that...
But how
