  • Today we have Johnny Wunder in the studio to go through the brand new 2024 Apex Pro Line of irons which are the Apex Pro, Apex CB and Apex MB.
    The Apex Pro irons are a hollow body design in a compact players shape while the Apex CB and MB irons are each single-piece forged models made of carbon steel.
    Working directly with tour feedback during the design. Average players now more than ever have to the ability to play exactly what the pro's want.
    Let's see how Ian hits the new clubs.

    Club Champion made a huge mistake not capitalizing on the TXG brand. Club Champion should be the one changing the name, not the other way around. There’s way more trust and brand equity in the TXG name. What a miss

      It's telling when your thought of one brand is "absolutely the gold standard in fitting and ahead of the curve", and the other brand is, " has all the expensive stuff in stock and tries to sell you on it before anything else" I went to CC for a fitting and would have spent almost as much on my clubs as a decent used car if I went for all their recommendations. Hard pass. Once you reach a certain level, you just kinda know when you're being coerced into spending money vs improving your score.

    I was sad to see TXG name disappear on the channel. I feel this was a big miss for how club champion could have branded. “TXG, a club champion brand” would still been good enough to try and steal the good reputation TXG built up while also protecting TXG from any negative experience from the other. They could have marketed as TXG being their “premiere experience/fitters”. Truly insulating TXG but also building up club champion.

    I demo'd an Apex Pro 7i this weekend. I'm a mid-handicapper, but I had good instruction as a youth and I understand how to deliver the club and work the ball. The difference in performance from my old cavity backs was mind blowing. The face is lively. Laying one baby draw on top of the other. Hit a fade, hit a draw, back to straight. It was all so easy. The tech today is incredible, there's no other way to say it. Combined with proper fundamentals and dedicated practice to groove in your consistency, I can't see how anybody, give 2-3 years of work, couldn't get into single digits these days. There's no excuse.

    The sole convo was a revelation to me. I tend to hit "harder to hit" clubs in a brand better than the others purely due to turf interaction. I have had a few and tried lots, and this happens across most brands. The only place that really talks about this is PXG - they use their models to fit you into irons by how you interact with the turf just as much as any other factor.
    I went in and didn't expect to even touch their "T" irons but got fit to them because I made SO much better contact with them compared to the thicker sole models.
    I love hearing reps talk about this - it's so undervalued in fitting like Ian says here.

    Why not keeping the TXG brand as a premium brand within the group.
    It was, and is an interaction between Iand and IronByron Mattie boy.
    .
    I love my Oban Devotion 6 which I gave to my Godson when he recently started.
    A son of a mate gave me a used shortened Oban Devotion 8 which was for a 3wood but fit my 5-wood. I had given him an Ovan Devotion 8, 85 as a driver shaft.
    I have an Oban isoshi in my hybrid, a Oban kiawa, .
    I aqcuired an inexpensive sell out Miazaki 7777...

    Question for the pro fitters. In a combo set, would you recommend the same shaft from 4i to PW or it would be ok to have one specific shaft for the 4-5-6 and a different one for the 7-8-9-PW?
    Here’s why I’m asking. I got fitted for a combo 4-5-6 Paradym (weak lofted) and 7-8-9-PW Apex CB (strong lofted) with True temper Elevate 95g shaft. Numbers where dialled in 7 iron 125mph ball, 6000 rpm backspin, carry 180.
    The issue came when I was ready to order them, Callaway doesn't install that shaft in the CB. I went back to try the True temper Dynamic gold XP 95g S300. Numbers were pretty much the same but feel was not the same probably due to the kick point being mid for the Dynamic gold and low for the Elevate.
    Which of theses two options would be better and why?
    1- Go with the Paradym/CB combo with two different shafts.
    2- Go with the Paradym/Apex pro combo to be able to have the Elevate shaft in all irons.
    Hope I can get some good advice on that.
    Cheers!

    Irons look great, but Callaway is again confusing with the naming convention.
    Before watching this video, I had no idea the MB, Pro, and CB were all part of the “Pro” line.
    When do the equivalent of the Apex 21 and DCB get released? If they are going to be released at all.

    I had a bad experience at CC, not many putters to choose from and they used Sam putt lab which is obsolete, I’ve personally never met anyone that went there and had a good experience. There’s a top 100 golf fitter in this area and he’s a lot cheaper than Club Champion. I’m glad Ian got a great payday by selling which he should have for all the work he put in TXG but CC have issues

    love it, ty boys, I game TCBs 6,7 2 degrees strong , I'm a low teen HC but believe it or not I can find the middle of the club face, and I don't judge by HC,I go to enjoy the beautiful course and be outdoors,anyway I'm a club golfer maybe once a week, I thought the Apex pro was to hollow soundings for me ,so TCBs it was, beautiful set of irons but wasn't crazy about the looks, feel and sound are the most important to mysef, anyway bla bla bla , ill be calling my Callaway rep, trade ins definitely, The pro in 5,6,7 and CB rest of the way!! could careless about distance, consistency the name of the game same height, spin, distance, ! I have the 6 to Aw in the TCBs I have Wilson Staff CBs 5 thru Pw and Mizuno pro 225 5 thru Pw I wondering what Callaway will give me in return lol lol !! love the content and who esle would they give the first reveal to ,of course you guys!! well deserved as always!!

    Interesting that Callaway has already taken their old Apex Pro off the website. They seemed like a great hollow body iron fit for a larger range of players than they marketed it to. Maybe now I can pick some up at a nice discount.

    Right before the 16min mark, when you started talking about the X-forged having sharp lines, and this Apex CB being softer in form...that is exactly what I was thinking this morning. I have my 2007 X-Forged in the bag this week, and had seen the IG posts about this new line. At first I didn't like the melted butter look, but it is growing on me.

Like mom said,, if you don't have anything nice to say ,shut up!!

      A lot of people have had poor experiences with Club Champion so its a bit understandable the dislike for the rebrand cause as TXG it still felt like their own company, but as Club Champion they associate fully with a heavily disliked company.

    • @Murf1802
      @Murf1802 ปีที่แล้ว

      @knightriderkitt3000 yeah I get it, I got fitted at club champion twice first fitting was for a driver had no idea what I was doing or understood any numbers, but the fitter put me in the Cobra F9 9degree and cut shaft to 44 3/4 now I know what the fitter was doing, I'm still using that driver , and I've been thru numerous other drivers which I wasn't fitted for and nothing compares to the Cobras numbers, I also knew what my skill level was , most guys thing the fitters gonna put them on the PGA tour lol , expectations, just know what kind of golfer you are !! But ty I agree, hopefully the company can turn around those negative experiences, because they do have a very good selection and technology to offer!! Thanks man appreciate comment!!

    Am I correct in saying the Apex line now aligns against the mizuno pro line with the three models, Or would the 225 be more forgiving than the Apex Pro 24?

    • @kaisersoze6685
      @kaisersoze6685 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      225 is far more forgiving than the Apex Pro 21. I’d say the 223 is as well. This launch from callaway is a bummer. Basically the whole apex line is now for elite ball strikers. I expected with them dumping the standard apex, that the pro would get more forgiving and play like a apex-apex pro 19 and 21 blended set. But instead, from what JW said here, the pro has gotten even less forgiving and more “player-ish”. Seems like the high single digit to 15 handicappers are going to be marketed to in the maverick-epic-paradym iron lines and have been cut from the apex line. Not thrilled, myself. But at least as a lefty, I can now hit the Mizuno 225 as that model will be available in the 245 that is coming this fall.

    • @wkndwarrior4733
      @wkndwarrior4733 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kaisersoze6685 ok I haven’t hit the 225 but am interested in it. I am imagining something else is coming from Callaway to fill the gap that is Apex 21/Dcb.

    • @kaisersoze6685
      @kaisersoze6685 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wkndwarrior4733 you would think, but if that’s the case why would they not have addressed that by now? From a business perspective it doesn’t make sense. Just in my limited reading of comments, I’ve seen dozens of people ask “where’s the standard, mid handicap players distance apex?”. If callaway doesn’t address that, then people who were waiting for it are now going to assume it’s not coming and buy something else. I just think they’ve decided to be a brand focused on scratch and better players for their irons and push the rest of us into the entry level, big bulky, and frankly ugly iron lines. It’s a shame, I’ve been in the last 2 Apex combo sets from 19 and 21 and I sure as hell ain’t waiting for something that probably isn’t coming.
