    You got some major balls drilling into a $85k truck lol I definitely couldn't do that! But that's definitely an awesome mod! 👍👊

    Well done! I love the contrast of the relatively simple install versus the level of usefulness. Awesome bang-for-your-buck install!

    That's a great idea for those with trucks that have cameras already. I myself will hafto put a after market one in. But I've decided to use mine that is wireless from camera to monitor to where it will plug into the flat trailer plug and have it to where I can set it in different places as I need it or different vehicles

    I just used a Drone that I flew up in the air for a nice aerial view of the area. Directed it wherever I needed it to and helped get me in and out of spots that others couldn't do at all.

    A super slick option indeed, when unhooking I'll drop a 2' 2x4 against the drivers rear sidewall and a short block in the back, hit the blocks and you're in the same spot :)

    That’s a slick set up. I got a xlt with the high mount camera. Turns out to be a joke when you’ve got a headache rack and a fuel tank in the bed. I wonder if the trucks without the 360 camera package have the same wiring harness with a dummy plug?

    I use an old clamp and mirror off my old truck. About a 2 dollar job but I can take it off and throw it in the tool box when I'm done. Pretty cool setup.

  • @porthole2

    Hope it works for you - but I tired that and I think you will still see it is difficult to hook up, especially coming from the anderson with the inverse cone coupler. On mine, if I did not have the receiver almost over the center it would not drop, just hang up on the ball. I talked to Reese engineers at the Hershey RV show, and as I expected, the engineers-designers saw no problem. I suggested they go out and do some non 'perfect' lines ups and see how it plays. Maybe it will work for you. For me, our first trip of the year with the the conventional hitch and the ride is back and a simple 1-2-3 hook up.
    I get the idea the cone anderson is using is patented.
    Something to try - I used a 2' tall stick magnet (one of those expanding pencil styles), got the truck lined up perfect, the hitch about 1" over the top and then set the magnet in the middle of the bed just touching the hitch. Piece of blue painters tape on the pin box. Line them up and when the hitch bumped the magnet I knew I was close. Painted a bright red circle on the bed to mark the magnet areas. You'll have to add some ferrous metal though.
    Do you see my comment on the last video?

      Big Truck Big RV I found the hardest is when the trailer is level (I have LevelUp) and the truck is not.
      My driveway was difficult. The trailer is completely on concrete and one side of my truck was off the pad and down about 4-6”.....

      Are you new to ball hitches? Because that is part of the beauty of them over kingpin. So much more versatile

    • @porthole2
      @porthole2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ogre Dad beauty of what - being difficult to hook up ?
      You have to be dead on with this hitch, otherwise it hands up on the ball. And too high coming in is also an issue. The trailer comes down in a slight arc, too high coming in and you will miss the ball.

    Nice idea. I used a telescoping magnet on my 2015 Superduty to determine when I was above the hitch on my gooseneck trailer, however that proved to be difficult on my 2017 since magnets are useless on aluminum.

    Another great video, I still think even with the camera it's still going too be harder too just hook up and go, verses the traditional 5th wheel hitch. My tool box block's my view also, and when I replace my stock stereo I plan on getting a double DIN so I can have a camera mounted on the tool box so I can see my Curt hitch. Another thing is climbing in and out of the bed too hook up the chain's seem's difficult IMHO

    We had reverse cameras on some of our commercial trucks for checking before backing. Theory being that if you back into or over something you shouldn’t have, you have no excuse. When in doubt, get out. That being said one feature the cameras had was a shield that covered the lens when it wasn’t being used. It automatically covered the lens to protect it from dirt water and grime. I would have probably coated the cut hole with paint but I yours is aluminum not steel.

    When i was hitching up to a trailer by myself i used a tape measure and would measure the distance from the center point of the ball to the center point of receiver, then i would open my door and measure the same distance from the edge of the door to a reference point on the ground and place a stick there and when backing up i just stopped when my door edge came to the stick and it was always perfect lined up. I know its very low tech but it worked and it was free And took maybe 1 min to do.

    Are you getting any water through that grommet? Maybe one that grips the cable would be better. Also a quick-tatch mount may be good to prevent camera from getting damaged by any "unruly" loads. Last, cable through untrimmed metal holes on the underside. After time, vibration may cut through the cable insulating jacket. Cool idea!

    Hey there, love the vids. Looks like the camera is installed upside down. The jack stands when looking through the camera were on the left side of the screen as if you were standing outside on the passenger side looking over the bed.. If you were standing outside the truck bed looking over the camera, the jack stands would be on the right. Just needs to be flipped over. Probably doesn't matter in the big picture (lol) as the view for your purpose works either way. Congrats on the success of the channel. Been around since about the 10k sub mark. Keep up the great work.

    I just bought a new 2017 F350 DRW FX4 King ranch. It seems both front doors rattle and I have less than 1500 miles. I know you had a rattle in your sunroof have you experienced a rattle in the doors? My 1997 F350 crew cab dually that I replaced did not rattle.

      On second thought, be sure the seatbelts arnt the cause of the rattles. There were some folks with 2017 Super Dutys that had what they thought were rattles until they found out that the seatbelts was hitting somewhere around the door panel when going over bumps.

    For those that need an alternative:
    Look into IBall wireless backup camera.
    I've had one for about 8 years from my popup days.
    I just looked them up on Amazon; many 4 Star reviews.
    They now have lithium batteries (mine has a 9v in the magnetic base remote camera.)
    The viewer plugs into a power port with a flexible shaft.
    Easily movable from vehicle to vehicle.
    I still use mine when backing up onto ramp boards with the motor home.
    (I just set the camera on the ground.)
    As of this date the digital version is $229.

      I actually have an iBall camera. It was ok, but I didn't like the screen having to be plugged into my already used 12vt outlet plus the limited range. I know it would be fine for this application, but I'd rather use the equipment built into my truck that would otherwise be dormant.

    So you hinted at it in the video whats your plans for a rear camera on your trailer? I have a 2019 super duty on order and like the idea of the trailer AUX cam, but I have an Airstream and routing a cable to the top back of the trailer is basically not possible. Only option I am aware of is the wirless Voyager camera system, but then I have an extra display in the cab, I would prefer to use the OEM system if I were to figure out a way to do it. Seems to be a common complaint on the AUX camera that there isn't a wireless option.

    Sometime last year you featured NuCam which connects to a smart phone or tablet. Curious why you wouldn't just set that on the driver's side bed rail aimed at the goose ball, hook up and then move it somewhere else (since it's easily repositioned).

    Why not hookup the the new camera to the high mounted camera signal, that way you don't loose your connection for the trailer tpms(Wich it's really handy) and trailer camera. I don't know if it's even possible but I don't see why not

    Why not use two spring clamps and a piece of string. Clamp end of string to each bed rail that is visible from you existing OEM camera with a reference mark on the goose box signaling the correct position? Simple is better.

    Is that plug present in the F250 super duty? I had a stereo guy install the same style camera for my gooseball, but he told me there was no plug so wired it much differently... it’s only on when the truck is in “drive”... think I got hood-winked....

    • @BTBRVReviews
      @BTBRVReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's only present if you have the 360 degree camera option.

      I also had a Tundra. They are nice in terms of reliability and a cool rear sliding window, but MPGs are horrible and the frame is very thin. Nice ride on the newer ones though.

    I would love to purchase a fifth wheel like yours. However, I have to live in one for quite awhile. Can you recommend a 24 foot or longer toy hauler style? I need a toy hauler I can live in. I am for lack of better explanation, working on the road, becoming a full timer, and saving up for the perfect house (when I find it). I tell you this because the higher the trailer payment, the slower the savings account goes up. So when are you going to do a video on:1. 5th wheel toy haulers. 2. RV furniture vs. load up your own (obviously much easier to load/unload furniture with a toy hauler style. 3. How honest are the bed sizes. I know. I measured. It's inches. Queen is not always Queen. Research. Take a tape measure. This is important to me, because I have to live in this trailer for at least 3 years. I want to take my Sweden purchases with me.

    • @akbychoice
      @akbychoice 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Big Truck Big RV it’s always hard to drill into or through Factory metal and paint. I’m sure professional installers never feel our pain.

    • @BTBRVReviews
      @BTBRVReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed akby. I got over those fears along time ago when installing cab lights on my 2011 F250 and reverse sensors on a Lexus that didn't have them. The key is to measure, remeasure, and then remeasure against....then bite the bullet and drill before your brain can stop you.
