Salmon Fly Fishing | Forres Angling Association | River Findhorn | March 2024

- I wanted to fish the Forres Angling Association once again following a great day with my good friend @hardlinesangling in 2023. The weather wasn't my friend today though, with rumbling thunder early morning to strong winds throughout the day it was an enjoyable outing.
Forres Angling Association, established in 1933, controls four miles of double bank salmon and sea trout fishing on the lower River Findhorn, extending from the Red Craig pool at Mundole down to the tidal Sea Pool where the river enters the sea in Findhorn Bay. The whole of the association water offers excellent fly fishing, producing salmon in varying heights of water. There are seventeen named fishing pools, most of which are very accessible from convenient car parking places. All pools are easily fished with undemanding wading in most, when it is required at all - many pools are best fished from the bank. In low water conditions, a single handed rod, or perhaps a switch rod, is all that is required to fish many of the pools, while a 13 or 14 foot double handed rod may offer an advantage when the river is running high.

Beautiful water and Scenery. Just looking forward to you catching a huge Salmon! My family came from Forress in the 1870's -1890's so interesting to see my ancestral homeland. Regards and tight lines from down-under in New Zealand.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing 👍
When l go out fishing its all about the relaxing time and if you get one al the better like your video many thanks 😂
Another great Video Chris
Glad you enjoyed it Craig 😊
Chris, another great video as always. Keep the Faith, could be that this was the last day of your fairly long trip but you seemed a somewhat 'jaded'. I expect once you have recharged then you will already be looking forward to your next trip - weeks beforehand!!! Thanks again.
You are right, i was a bit jaded by the end. Back at it now though 😃👍
Enjoyed following your spring fishing, it’s an incredibly difficult thing you are pursuing so hats off to you for keeping the enthusiasm going and putting out the videos for us to enjoy. I hope you managed to recharge the batteries and I wish you luck for the next stage of your season.
Thanks, will do!
Persevere! Your videos entertain. Thank you.
Thanks, will do!
Awesome video again. I'm looking forward to seeing your video again. 👍👊
More to come!
Chris keep it up really enjoy watching you❤r adventures of the everyday guy salmon fishing and all the best to Theo👍🏻
Glad you like them!
Great video Chris. Looked like there was a decent bit of water for your trip. Nairn fly has had 2 fish out of red craig from the caravan park side this year. I've been meaning to go back again but I've not had the chance to yet.
Toby, how do you get to caravan side, do you wade across or drive around, TIA
@josedasilva4293 as far as I'm aware you drive round to the other side. I didn't fish that pool from the other side when I was there as there were a few people fishing the pool when I went last.
Thank Toby, 😊
Great video Chris 🎣 Will be fishing there in June can you recommend anywhere local to stay with a motorhome ?
Thanks Brian, apparently there is a touring site nearby but I haven't stayed it it. I would avoid the Culloden CAMC, terribly uneven pitches, difficult to get level. I prefer staying at the site at Grantown-on-Spey, it's only a 30 minute drive to Forres. If you do stay at the one next to the river please let me know what you think 👍
@@CornishChrisTheFish Thanks for the info Chris I will let you know where abouts we stay tight lines 🎣
Good stuff Cornish, great video once again. I, myself am a proper rookie at this game,(trout fished for as long as I can remember)but onlyfished for springers on two occasions just after Easter, at the Abernethy beat, on the Spey. I base out of Nethy Bridge when I get up, and am looking forward to my week at Forres, beginning June. Was just wondering as we are in the similar neck of the woods, I'm in Dorset, are there any decent salmon venues down in the South West, have you tried any. Will always head up to the Highlands for it as I have family up there, but was interested in something local. TIA.
Hey thanks for that, other than the Tamar and the Camel i am not to sure about rivers closer to you. The Camel at Butterwell Farm is pretty good back end and closes in December, the Tamar is hit and miss. Good luck on the Findhorn lovely river
@@CornishChrisTheFish thanx pal.
Chris, were you at Scone caravan site 16th May to 19th?
Yes mate, still here leaving Wednesday 👍, you should have come and said hello
@@CornishChrisTheFish saw your car with rod on thursday and recognized the plate from you- tube, i was at site thursday to sunday, next time may bump into you.
@@billytheghillie next time 👍
Red Craig’s is best fished from the caravan park side Chris form the boundary marker down to the hut
If memories serves me the fish Toby has was at the tod of Gordon’s not the stoney
Oh and the fish in the spring never stop until they get as far as the dump but mostly the stoney
Ah okay good to know
No it was definitely Stoney because we started there and didn't fish Red Craig because someone was already there
Good to know thanks for sharing 👍
..Ah..a couple of" educational" cold March days with a brown and gold devon...memories of..1982...
Thanks 😊
Good stuff Chris, but I think I can hear a little bit of resignation creeping into your voice there. I know it can be a little discouraging when you're casting yourself sore and not catching, but keep your head up lad. It will come, you just need to put yourself in the right place and time. You've done it before.
Yeah i was being to become despondent on that last pool and quite tired but am back at it again at the moment on the Tay 👍
