You’re right Sammy, that is definitely the best part! Plus, they put out new leaves pretty quickly once cut during the growing season. But the “other” best part is the flowers! 💚💖🌸🙂
Last year I planted some Quick Fire Fabs because I thought a hedge would be great. This year the blooms are so huge that they get really too heavy after rain. Same with my Incrediballs. Everyone is so crazy for big huge blooms. I would be just as happy with more smaller blooms that could take it. In my garden, size has nothing to do with performance! lol
I totally agree with you Suzette, that it does seem like many gardeners want giant hydrangea blooms - the bigger the better - whereas smaller flower heads and panicles handle rain much better. One exception for me (as you saw in the video) is Pinky Winky, which has such strong stems that their huge panicles (which are rather airy compared to Quick Fire Fabs) handle rain like a champ. 🩷
It rained and rained here in Baltimore also....it was getting old 🙂 What was the plant to the left of the popcorn rose in this video? Love me my Pinky Winky Hydrangea!!
It truly was getting old. 😅 And the rain just wouldn’t quit! I feel like I need to squeeze the water out of the gardens like a wet towel. 🤣 There’s a Lavender Phenomenal to the left of the Popcorn Drift Roses. 🍿🌿
@@GardenSanity I did see the video on the Lavender - it looks so healthy - I can't get Lavender to grow in my yard - maybe this variety will be worth a try.
@@GardenSanity Yes - from the view in your video, it didn't have blooms, but the foliage was super light green and healthy - I need to try this plant next year in my yard.
I think a case can be made for thinning out the panicle blooms early on for cut flowers and flopping prevention. Your Limelight tree held up great! The 3 Little Limes I bought on clearance were obviously cut back, but they’re loaded with smaller blooms in lime when everything else is pink. I might try it next year for the same effect.
Thanks Will - I’m amazed the tree held together, even during the insane wind gusts. And this was the second year I had to remove flowerheads, so next year I’ll just do it regardless. Good idea. I also love your idea of purposely delaying the bloom on the Little Limes. I’m enjoying the delay in the color change on mine, especially since the Pinky Winkies are so pink right now. (And my favorite is the white flower on my Firelight that normally blooms early Summer.) 🌸🌿🙂
Everything looks beautiful, Laura! And those Little Henrys ... oh my goodness!!! North of Atlanta, we didn't get any much needed rain. We've been in a drought for more than a month with no rain in sight. Doing a rain dance that hasn't helped :) - Doleen
Thanks Doleen! I thought you might have gotten some rain from the leftovers from Hurricane Ian. I hope you get some rain soon. 🤞 Maybe your rain dance sent the rain my way! 🤣
All hydrangeas in your yard looking gorgeous! Enjoyed watching this vlog.
Thanks so much Shiryn! So glad you enjoyed the hydrangeas! 🌸
Hey, Laura! 👋🏻 Ty for giving us a look at the hydrangeas after so much rain! They’re all still beautiful, and I am still having hydrangea envy lol!! 😂
😂 Oh boy Lori, I keep giving you hydrangea envy. 😅 I’m glad you enjoyed seeing them again! ❤️🌸
Hi Laura your hydrangeas are looking fantastic! I prune my panicle hydrangeas anytime because they always grow on new woods. That’s the best part.

Oh my goodness! The color on your hydrangeas is fantastic 💕
Thanks Nicole! 🙂 After the Summer of not much rain, I’m amazed at the colors too, especially the Pinky Winkies. 🌸💚
I love all your hydrangeas 👍🏻
Thank you Rosie! They look refreshed after that long drink of water they had. 🙂

@@SnappyR So was the Lavender the plant to the left of the Popcorn Drift Rose you were asking about? Just want to make sure! 🙂

@@SnappyR I hope you do try it -- I think you'll enjoy it very much!
