    I agree. Bring back the magic. I gave up with autofocus lenses. And hopefully no MeToo ramifications !

      @@JoeVanWyk Happy New Year too. I appreciate your style and charitable approach, especially to street photography. I've take photographs for about 45 years but generally print and frame them for my own selfish pleasure !

      Dude! Thank you so much for watching. So glad I saw your comment on DPR. Your channel is killer! I just subscribed. I saw the Helios in your trailer and wanted you to know that I also tested that one out on the Sony while I was in Colorado. Now all I have to do is edit. Ugh.

      Editing, so time consuming lol. How do you like manuals focusing? I’m totally fine with it but I feel it’s a bit of an excuse barrier I see many youn budding photographers buck at.
      Ona mirrorless I feel it’s pretty easy with technology (peaking focus zoom) and technique. So much easier mechanically focusing vs focus by wire as well.

      For sure.
      I really have to be in the mood for manual focus, whether that be for video or photography. Tomorrow afternoon, for instance, I have a walk around portrait shoot in downtown Austin. I will be bringing fast auto focus primes that work flawlessly with the eye auto focus on my Sony. I figure I have so much else to deal with that I want to make focusing as easy as possible. Plus, i’m a real sucker for shallow depth of field so it’s impossible to shoot wide open and nail focus on those eyeballs while shooting manual.
      The vintage manual focus lenses that I have are the ones that I researched and found to produce the most freakish bokeh. I just left bringing them out when I am shooting at say a festival at night with a lot of lights or some other environment that shows off that character.

    The Voigtlander 1.4 is a great lens. I use the Single Coated version and it is superb for B&W photography.

    Nice to have in your camera bag to use as necessary whenever variety is desired. Remember fog filters, diffusion filters of all kinds. Softars too.

    Love the A7rii. Currently using a vintage set of manual lesnses that I actually ended up buying from FB market place. A pentakon f1.8 50mm, pentakon F2.8 24mm and a Zeis Jana f2.8 135mm. All manual focous/appeature and using a Praktica PB mount to Sony E mount globe adapter. The 50mm and 135mm are so good at rendering beautiful Bokeh!!

      @@JoeVanWyk I have a couple older lenses but honestly I rarely use them. I do own the voigtlander 21mm f/4 and it’s incredible, plus I just ordered the 40mm from this video.

    For my Nikon ZF,I picked up two Voightlander lens the 40mm F1.2 and also a 15mm F4.5, also two Viltrox lens, the 28 mm and 35mm i figure that these four lens will give me a different look with the ZF, i also have a 5omm f1.8 and a 28-75mm f2.8 Nikon lens to complete the lens for this camera.

      That is one sweet setup James. Way cool. I'd love to see some shots with the 40 1.2. Love 28mm too- lots of fun with my Q at that focal length.

    I understand the love for manual Focusing but with a Sony you really do not need to give up at af. Techart give you even eye af on this lens. I have a few of them and you get the best of both world, MF is as far as the push of ine “c” button. I’m ordering this one very soon

    I like the vignetting for portraits, but for when you’re using it for landscapes does the vignetting go away when you stop down ?

    • @JoeVanWyk
      @JoeVanWyk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      okay
      That’s a great question, okay. Sorry but I’m not sure about that. I would imagine that vignetting isn’t a problem stopped down.

    • @jordanrubinfilm
      @jordanrubinfilm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JoeVanWyk Hey Joe. Cool video. I used to have the lens and I loved it. Can’t remember which one I had. Multicoating has more contrast and is better for flares and shooting in color (allegedly)... single coating is supposedly better for black and white, depending on preference. But there seems to be much debate about this. Thinking of buying it again and was trying to decide which to go with. This might tell you about yours: “If the lens is single-coated, it will have blue "SC" after the word classic. If you look closely at the image, you'll notice a blue "SC". If it's multi-coated, it won't have anything directly after the word classic.”
