That ratchet is in need of grease! That’s why it’s so noisy. The plate is pretty thick for most ratchets. I have never seen anything much thicker. Protos are pretty old school compared to the newer fine tooth ratchets. Rebuild kits are easy to come by. Very reliable overall.
