  • These are the first days of working on my new property. An ancient stone cabin built on the Italian Alps. Life is taking us too far from nature. But I want to go back. Thanks for watching my italian stone cabin restoration!

    Your video came up in my feed since I've been following Martijn Doolaard's with great interest. I love old stone structures, I come from a family with generations of masonry workers and appreciate the work that went into those type of buildings and the lasting durability of such efforts. The dead trees that are seen in your shots appear to have been dead for some time, it takes several years for bark to peal off and branches to succumb to the elements and fall off. Clearing a bit of the underbrush around the base of some of the survivors, which are the healthiest, can help them make it and propagate new growth. Best of luck on your efforts and appreciate your willingness to film and share your journey.

      thank you very much for your words. I'm glad you enjoyed my footage, especially since you can understand the efforts that went into building this house. In the spring I will clear the undergrowth around the newborns. I hope you can watch my progress in the future too, see you soon!

      I also love this kind of stone construction. Here where I am you can dig and find old walls or similar, all made of stone. The channel is still very young, I hope not to disappoint expectations and be able to interact with many people. See you in the next video if you like!

    Ciao!

    I just found your sight For the same reason that others have… Martin D. I’m curious to know where you are from originally and why you chose the alps. Aside from the awesome views from every aspect. I love the wilderness and live vicariously through you brave souls that courageously alter everything about their lives for the isolation found only in such wilderness. As time goes by I hope to hear more about what drives you and look forward to following your progress. Keep safe and warm. Best wishes from Ohio, USA, just south of the Great Lakes ( Erie ).

      Hi Karen, I'm Italian, I was born and lived in Northern Italy. I chose the Alps because I've always loved them, I love the wooded mountains even if there aren't many open spaces here, but especially with few people. (In fact, I love the United States for its open spaces, even if I haven't been to Ohio yet). Winter slows me down, and a lot, but we move forward with small steps. Over the course of the videos I will explain my choice and why ;) thanks for following me

    I don't know in which part of Italy you are but especially last one year was too dry in Piemonte and the nearby Alps that was not good at all. Now in the Alps there is some snow, very few rain down in Pianura. I hope the climate could change as it was before!
    And yes I am agree, We should Save our Planet!

    Not sure where you are in the Italian Alps but there is a man (Martijn Doolaard) who is restoring a stone cabin there as well,
    He and some others are involved in similar projects, I saw a young family that just began renovations on a stone house in
    the Italian Alps as well. Hope you have great success in your endeavor, subscribed.

      Thank you for your good wishes;) Yes, I know Martin's channel, I follow him on youtube. I'm not far from him, I think about half an hour by car. I'm in the North West of the Alps, even if it wasn't my ideal region let's say, but I'll talk about it on video. I hope to create some good content. Thank you for your subscription! Soon.

    If had to place security sensors everywhere,I wouldn’t want to be there !

    • @mywildlifeitalia
      @mywildlifeitalia  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's nothing to fear, just the people, but they're in a hard-to-reach area. As for animals, just respect them and above all know their behavior. Anyway I have the sensors, just to figure out what's going on nearby, but I use them to film animals generally, so I know when they're around

I will definitely tell you the place where I am and the cost of the cabin, anyway I am 20 minutes by car from Val Pellice. Let's say I'm in the valley next to Val Pellice. I will be waiting for your comments in the next videos 😉 ... bye!

    I wonder if these trees are suffering from various blights, as well as the effects of drought.
    Do you have Hop hornbeam trees (Ostrya carpinifolia), European black pine (Pinus nigra) or European Ash (Fraxinus spp.) on your property? I believe they’ve all been attacked by various pathogens.

    • @mywildlifeitalia
      @mywildlifeitalia  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      then, definitely beeches, birches and conifers, but I'm still not good at recognizing and plants. There are also pine trees, but I can't tell you the exact species, even if i think black pine. Are you a botanist?

    • @lisascenic
      @lisascenic 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mywildlifeitalia I’m actually an artist, but I have a keen interest in the natural world. I was struck by your mysterious dead forest, and did a bit of internet research about the kinds of pathogens attacking trees in the Italian alps. I found quite a few research papers, and since I figured my English names for your trees wouldn’t be particularly helpful, I included the Latin names.
      Here in California, we have different blights, but the effect is similar. What’s so shocking in your case is the variety of species affected.

    10:56 - Wow .. placing screws into live trees?! Well, that's a bad bad idea .. it hurts .. those sensors could've been simply strapped .. would've been a friendly solution. If your aim is going back to the Nature, respect the Nature .. and then Nature may accept you some day .. or maybe not .. simple as that .. and who the hell needs those sensors in the woods anyway? :))

    • @mywildlifeitalia
      @mywildlifeitalia  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      who? me obviously ;) unfortunately the choice was due, I needed to check the area because the cabin was opened twice while I was away and there was a guy who came to look around too much. So, binding the sensor would have made no sense.
      Sooner or later I'll cut down some trees, just know that ;) thanks anyway for pointing this out to me
