    Ha ha ha. Your video has just proven again to me that beauty is the eye of the beholder. I actually found it a very nice-looking car, in the whole silver or broze color scheme.
    Some background so you can see I consider very familiar with the driving characteristics of sedans. My last cars in chronological order have been a Nissan Sentra 1992 (4 door), a Mercedes Benz 1995 300CE ( 2 door), a Mercedes 2003 E500 ( 4 door) and now I am the proud owner of a Mercedes 2008 CL63. I personally think than the CL63 is just the best looking, 2 door grand tourer GT stop point of the last 30 years. While its younger brother, the S560 coupe is a tour the force technology wise, the gracious styling of the CL was lost.
    Now, a 540 HP, naturally aspirated beauty has a steep daily gas tax of 16 MPG combine. Two doors have been more than enough for my married without children lifestyle. More to this point later.
    A car like the Toyota Crown sedan for the US market is an interesting proposition as a daily commuter. I think the sweet spot will be the Limited Trim with the 19 inch wheels. From a practical point of view, I think if Toyota would have step down the wheels to something between 16 to 18 would have make even more sense, if keeping the overall tire diameter. That means taller sidewalls, tires with more meat for the occasional driving in sup par roads.
    I have no problem with the 38 MPG, that is more than double of what I got. Getting 40+ today requires the use of 1.4 - 1.6 cc turbo charged engines that are just just too punny weak for the overall weight of hybrid cars. It is a well proven battery technology that I certainly don't see requiring any special maintenance. Choosing the the Limited Trim, with no turbos and conservative HP power, an actual spare tire in the trunk, and a truck that can take two large travelling suitcases as well as groceries seams like a nice compromise. Is a great vehicle to wait on the side for the full electrically car market to really mature, especially the charging infrastructure, something that I think is still somewhere down the road in the next 10 years.
    I think that Toyota has been very clear about what they think is their needs for a world class car, that does not mean necessary a US car, especially in the Asia, Europe and, Latinoamerica. They need something reliable, relative cheap hybrid technology. Full electric is not really something down there, no matter how much Tesla is trying to make you believe it is. Is good they give you the choice if only for a few years, to pick that option.
    Therefore, I will end by saying I think the target market for this car is a comfortable daily commuter for a family, probably 45 to 70, that will appreciate the easier entry, trouble free maintenance, simple cruising in the highway for the ocassional road trip. In summary, those left behind by this current SUV trend... It just took a sudden change in gas prices to make you remember why the compact car market is still strong everywere else in the world. I will certainly get one if priced in the 40-45k range.

    I agree with you. I was excited that the Crown was coming back to North America. However, this isn’t what I expected. It’s a crime to discontinue the Avalon.It’s been a masterpiece since conception.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool, why aren’t they just getting a sienna, Camry, Corolla, Avalon, rav4, highlander, or Prius? What does this do that all of those hybrids don’t?
      Are they just paying more for less because Toyota thinks the 55+ market is senile? They seem to have some very young looking 55 year olds in their commercials for this.

    • @chillmerna
      @chillmerna 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MeynMotorGroup they're not buying those other models because the Crown is replacing the Avalon. Avalon buyers are not interested in mini vans or a tinny Prius. Prius actually had a hatch and was far more useful at almost half the price. If this came out as at least a plug in hybrid I wouldn’t be nearly as upset. Instead it just comes with average MPGs nothing ground breaking. But I apologize my friend for offending your god Toyota.

    Your negativity on the current car market is justified. Nothing is what it was. It's easy to catch "old man disease" and rail against life itself, but that is a dead end. Focus on the 10% of any area (cars, music, food, etc.) that is good, don't get too bent outta shape by the 90% that is shit. Your commentary is on target and valuable. Thus ends my pep talk.
    Regarding this fine vehicle before us, the CROWN, yep, a solid chunk of shit. It appears to do many things wrong, even calling back the god-awful styling trend of the "beetle back" sedan thingies from 6-7 years back, like the Honda Accord Crosstour or Mercedes GLE/GLC. Jack 'em up in the air and all of a sudden it's SPORTY-er. Yuck. Approaching Pontiac Aztek levels of design failure. Okay, I exaggerate, but why style something ugly when you can style it non-ugly?
    Many car fan people end up settling down in some era where they think the car manufacturers last did things right. It happened to me, and that's why I always end up thinking there will never be a car as perfect as my 2007 Lexus LS460L, may it run forever. But I also thought the early '90s Celicas were perfect, or the 3rd gen 4Runners were perfect.
    The point is, there are always (or have been to this point anyway) pretty good new cars coming out. Keep letting us know what the good ones are, while railing against the 90% shit, and we will keep watching.

    What does it offer? At least it looks like a sedan in an IMO boring crossover heavy market. It may offer that near-Lexus experience in a bigger car that Avalon used to offer. And it's probably what all the marketing surveys produced that Toyota loves to send out. The Crown is OK and there are variants of it, including a lower sedan, that the US market may or may not see.
    I'm not as down on cars as you though I'm down that so many people need to buy crossovers. Kia and Hyundai are making exciting looking cars, Toyota still has potential to, Volvo and Polestar are on the verge of a new gen of vehicles and there are EV startups that may stay in business. Toyota and Lexus did show a few cars in their EV preview that seem interesting.

Also, let's have some expectation management, tge Avalon was the flagship sedan with that type of price tag meaning is was not for everyone to purchase, so reasonable sales goals should have been set for th e market. This flagship switch is not going to make a difference the price tag for a flagship sedan is going to be more than for a Camy and it is not going yo sell any better. I agree that is probably the major practical drawback of this car. I think this one can be very practical with a something between 16 to 18 while keeping the overall profile for a wide sidewall. That will make very appealing for less than perfect roads, that are become more prevalent in the US as they are the norm in lesser developed countries.

      @@MeynMotorGroup Definitely think some deserve more love than others. Toyota isn't a famous brand for... exciting people. Is this car objectively better than the Avalon? I think that's the sole mindset they have unfortunately. They rock no boats over at Toyota. Your take on the Tundra I felt was spot on. They had the newest truck to hit the market and despite the styling, which I actually like a lot, it is in typical Toyota fashion, the least interesting/compelling offering on basically every metric. Every brand new Toyota & Lexus rolls off the assembly line already out of date. They're trying in some areas it seems. The GR Corolla is a wildcard for the brand- probably the _only_ vehicle they build that could make me stare for longer than 1.5 seconds in a parking lot. The other one is produced in a BMW factory so that doesn't count lmao.
      Everything else is a snoozefest. Look at their upcoming EV. YAWN....

    Nice interior but several misses on the exterior and under the hood. What happened to the beautiful sequential lights the Avalon has? Who wants a fixed sunroof. Over all a total miss. Toyota should have put this energy into the redesign of the Avalon. This is not going to sell any better. The name is also ridiculous Crown vs Avalon. The latter sounds much more sophisticated. Not to mention getting rid of the V6 engine option. No thanks. I will get the Audi A7 that I said I would treat myself to oneday.

    Kevin, I agree the Toyota/Lexus brand is getting boring and lack innovation. I now set my eyes on the Korean brand (ie Genesis/Hyundai/Kia) and they are more bold, have more innovations and provide more value for the money. Full disclosure I drove a 2017 Sorento, then switched to top trim Kia Telluride and now I am a proud owner of the Kia Sorento PHEV. All excellent vehicles!
