I have so many wonderful memories of travelling on the trams through Sheffield with my Grandma in the late 1950's and 60's.

That's really taken me back to childhood! Very nostalgic, never remember the trams ever not running because of a little bit of snow on the tracks :D

For a short while they were replaced by the Woodseats Circular and Beauchief Circular 63 and 65 routes. They had minimum fares at rush hours. Sadly no bus traverses much of Abbey Lane nowadays

Interesting to see even the modern shots on this presentation taken in presumably 2012 have changed a bit ten years further on. While abbey lane is a particularly picturesque road, even today there is no requirement for any bus to go down to abbeydale road from the roundabout, it is hardly a surprise that the trams didn't have many passengers.

Dear Elizabeth, I left Sheffield with my parents in 1952. We lived in the Abbeydale area and traveled on the Millhouse/Woodseats routes all the time. After 69 years I still think of and miss this area very much. If it was not for my children and grand children I would go back tomorrow. I would miss the trams though.
