  • Tram journey from Meadowhead to Lane Top in 1960.
One thing I like about these old tram films is the DANGEROUS DRIVING STANDARDS of motorists back then.
Joyriders and boy racers aside, it appears many drivers seemed to have no sense of danger, caution or even plain common sense.
Today, the new tram system will take you from one shopping location to another, nothing else ; an utter waste of money.
Soundtrack has been remastered by myself, to reduce the background noise.
Those listening in mono may HEAR NO SOUND - this is because I have put the left and right channels in anti-phase, to help avoid content flagging.

I remember catching the trams in Sheffield with my Grandma as a small child; it was so sad to see them go.

I am enjoying all the Sheffield videos, but this one explains things so much better. It mentioned Highfield library which I used all the time. Unfortunately, I had to leave Sheffield in my teens, but still think of it often.

Going from trams to buses was a complete disaster. I loved Sheffield trams.

All I get when watching on my phone is whistling. Watching on the computer is fine. Thanks for uploading

He's mixed the sound with the left and right channels out of phase, so as to defeat the audio filters for copyright content.
If you listen from a device with a single speaker/mono output it will become virtually silent, whereas from a stereo soundcard on the average pc it will sound OK.

Oh how my home city has changed, not entirely for the better in many cases.

Brilliant film, some of the buildings have stayed the same, the people & fashions have changed. Like having a time machine

That tram terminus at Lane top is now a KFC and Costa. Crazy.

My GOD, I used to love that place! Even The Pheasant pub, at the very end, has gone... Firth Park was so beautiful once... It isn't now....

The Motorist of today rely on their brakes? A very"dangerous practise?" Illustrating the Fall In driving Standards and the bad "practises" of todays drivers! Illustrated by the rise in Insurance charges!

Many drivers back then had never passed a driving test, as they weren't required when they took to the wheel.
Today's drivers have a false sense of security, due to the bloated tanks they drive.
The old days had ignorance, today it is ARROGANCE and aggression.

Firth Park was a respectable area back then, now it's Chav central on par with some parts of Parson Cross and the Manor.

I think Firth Park was worker's housing for Firth Brown / Firth Rixson. My dad said he used to go to Firth Park, Manor Top & Parson Cross Fine Fare supermarkets when he worked for them. You can tell Firth Park has seen better days because the Fine Fare is now Heron Foods and Jack Fulton...

A delightful film which captures the essence of Sheffield's original trams.
