Just did mine following the video. Absolutely nuts (pun intended) how you have to take the intake manifold off to access one side. The other side was almost impossible to get to as well dealing with the brackets and hoses. After making 3 different trips to the store because I kept needing different tools (my fault) to get the job done, it got it all put back together and now no more misfire engine error codes for me. Great video! Thank you for spending the time to show us how to do this.

Appreciate your video. Agree with others on having to remove so much for a simple job. I had a CJ4 with a Vette 350 V8 in it that was much easier to work on. Again thank you for the education. No wonder it cost so much to replace 6 spark plugs. Yikes, would be a real pain on older jeep with rusted hardware. Could see those intake manifold bolts disturbing the intake gaskets upon re-assembly if not super careful. 1A Auto is A1.

After watching this - I’m not sure I have enough time in one day to change my plugs ! Can’t believe they would design an engine that needs partial dismantling to change “consumables”. When I trade my 2014 JK, I think I’ll be looking for a straight forward carby / distributor pre-1990 rig that you could have done a complete top-end rebuild in the time it takes to change plugs in a JK.
Thanks for the video though, very comprehensive and I’ll be having this playing while I attempt the job myself (just to see how frustrated I’ll get 😜)

Jeep dealerships currently want over $1,000 to do this job. (As of March 2024.)
The first time, I was quoted around $600 back in 2018 or so, and I balked at that amount and did it myself. Then a couple years later, it was done during some warranty work; I paid only $200 for parts and labor because I knew enough to tell them the hard work of getting to the plugs would be included in the warranty work. So, they discounted it and I was fine with paying that; I know they need to make money.
But this time, I'm having the valve cover gaskets replaced under the lifetime power train warranty and they initially asked for over a grand for plugs, then discounted it to $600 for overlap of work when I called them out on it. Total BS. BTW, they wanted $1800 for that but thankfully I have that warranty. So they're doing that and I'll be doing my plugs myself again. You'd think, just to earn some goodwill with a new customer, they'd take a couple hundred bucks to screw in six plugs and I'd be happy paying that. But $600? No.

Very detailed video thank you for sharing it. However, I must add that this is very poorly designed. It should not have to take this long to get to something like spark plugs.

It's a smart design for revenue. They want you to have to take it to the dealer and pay $700 for changing spark plugs

Great video, it's ridiculous that you need to take everything apart for this maintenance. I personally won't use these guys for parts. I ordered a vacuum pump from them once and it was junk. Also, I ordered brake rotors and pads from them. The rotors were exposed and damaged during shipping and returning them cost me $60.

Mine is at 62000 miles, no issue.. im planing this work ahead ..and was quoted $400 at the dealer to change all 6 spark plugs and gaskets.. because im broke, i will probably diy this.
But i got a question..im not very tall and my jeep is lifted. So i can barely reach the spark plug with my hand. Even with a 2 steps stool i can not reach some of the nuts..i need to step on the bumper.
I do not have a hose plier, they cost $18 each. I dont know which size to buy. Could you also list the iridium spark plugs and the gaskets parts that we need to buy? Also what do you do if you drop a bolt inside the manifold? And what year was the jeep in the video how many miles did it have ?

I know we change the upper intake manifold gaskets but is there any necessity to chsnging the lowers as well? Not experiencing a leak or anything just changing spark plugs and coils and the gasket pack I ordered comes with both upper and lower

This is what I need to do to change plugs on my Jeep.
On my Bronco it is =
    1 Disconnect spark plug boot
    2 Replace spark plug
    3 Connect spark plug boot
On my Camaro it is =
    1 Disconnect spark plug boot
    2 Replace spark plug
    3 Connect spark plug boot

Those bolts are 71 IN-lbs which is not 7.5 foot pounds it is 5.961 FT-lbs. Both upper and lower intake manifold says 71 IN-LBS. That plastic will crack with over tightening especially if it is old.

So the torque wrench you have pinned is 25-250 but in the video you say you need to torque it down to 7.5 ft lbs how do you get 7.5 from the 25?

So happy my 2007 JK does not have this engine. My word, how was this ever considered proper engineering. An automobile owner should not have to disassemble the intake, just to replace plugs. Thanks for the video, as we now know to stay with the 3.8L V6. I can imagine the faces of the owners of this engine, when needing new plugs, and they're quoted $1000 and being told, it's gonna take the mechanic all day to get it done. smh
