    I just realized Jim is no longer with us. So Sorry. He was clearly a wonderful person to know. Folks that are willing to share their knowledge for the sole purpose of helping others are a rare gem.

    RIP Jim. I'm sorry for your loss Dave. Jim had so much knowledge about lapidary and the mineral world. I learned a good bit from him through your videos. Thanks for uploading this, I had no idea.

    I have been a mineral collector my entire life, well since I was in grammar school. I am 78 now . I have always loved the beauty of Fire Agate. I have a fabulous collection, but I do not have any specimins of f- agate. I used to go to the Tuscon mineral show every year. I never ran into any specimins , mainly because I have always been into raw minerals and crystal specimins. Love the colors that it displayes . Maby some day. Crazy, you look just like my younger brother! Lol. Love your work!

      @@lapidarydave it’s funny because I recently got into fire agates. I am a huge agate person atm but to sit around and carve with this man would have been enough.

    sorry to see he's gone, I was really digging his carving. I am passed the beginner stage and have gotten where, I am a really good carver. So I have 3 question. Where do you get quality raw fire agate to carve, how do you price your work (chart maybe), and how do you find a market for you completed cabs.

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I get my material from source fr the miners
      The more hands it goes through the price double with every person especially with Mexican material
      I get them at Gemshow really you have to look at them in person photos will make them look too good
      Pricing is even harder than sourcing good material for a fair price. I just like people trying to sell online making their pieces. Look at Best Buy particular angles, fire, agate, pricing and sales is tough because they are only going to post good videos that good angles so your best bet is to price your material off of videos that you see online Facebook groups tend to be the best for pricing
      And you would bark at the ad shows or online putting them out to sell is the easy part selling them is the hard part they are literally two days in a three days and Fire Agate 10 days at the largest shows in America, Denver, Quartzsite, and Tucson your best bet is to market them at smaller trade shows and most people don’t wanna buy a 1 inch $400 rock no matter what it looks like so you’re gonna have to get him and Jewelry to really get the most out of Them

    Couldn't you just tumble these if you're keeping the original shape?

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s all about pulling out the color. The color bars are fractions of the millimeter thick tumbling would definitely maintain the shape, but it’s not really about the shape. It’s the different colors underneath each other.
