      Those sounds are birds in the background. I recorded this when I lived in Hawaii and at my location it was hard to escape the sounds of nature.

    1:18 this pattern makes more sense, the brightest star Spica means "ear of wheat" because Virgo herself is often shown holding one. Sometimes she looks like the letter Y or a polygon with lines from each corner

    On my corner, where I like to hang out sometimes I can see 1 star from the sky, I do wonder if it's a drone or à star, who knows?! That's the life in my dwarf metropol. I would like this summer to escape city life for a few week, wish me godspeed! Thank you to explain why virgo have different shapes, left to me which shape correspond to my culture. I might find the right answer soon. Thank you for your brillant video.

    Spring is upon us here in NM and I'm looking forward to seeing at least some of those galaxies with my telescope. I do not have any fancy trackers except hand controls to make moving it smooth with no jerkiness and minimal shaking. I only acquired my telescope recently and haven't had a chance (or skill) to view a galaxy yet. I've so enjoyed your videos Janine I cannot say how helpful they've been. Especially helpful in finding things. When it is cloudy I listen to you as your voice reminds me of my 5th grade teacher Mrs. Rivers who was so instrumental on interesting me in science.
    You forgot to mention that Virgo doesn't have the Milky Way galaxy behind it and that is why we can see so many galaxies. Or did you say so and I missed it?🙃

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mentioned the absence of the Milky Way in my last video about galaxies. Virgo is one of the best constellations for photographing galaxies. I’m glad my videos help!

    I enjoy your videos. I like how you try to get people to see the constellations and a lot of your illustrations.. I prefer the Spring Diamond. I actually have never heard of the Spring Triangle? The Spring Diamond is Arcturus, Spica, Denebola, and Cor Caroli. Another way to see Virgo is Virgo's Diamond, but I also like to see her cup. I saw the Virgo Diamond in an old book but don't remember where. It is Spica, Porrima, Vindematrix, and Heze all in Virgo. I have also heard spike to Spica. Speed is probably easier to remember although it promotes mispronunciation.

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your message. I have heard of the Spring Diamond, but I just do not have any good picture of it. I have videos coming out on Spring Triangle soon. There's also debate as the which stars make up the Spring Triangle. I appreciate your comment about 'Spike to Spica'...I didn't think about how this would help with correct pronunciation. I will most likely make that switch.

      Learn the Sky Aloha!
      Actually no, cause i have an issue between me and Virgo: clouds lolol it's been very cloudy here these days, I barely can see the Moon! I am expecting the sky to clean up in the next days here to me to be able to see something. But i'm not sure because due to the right ascemption Orion is gone of my view( i am 23 degrees south here) and i think i am gonna get a little lost without my compass, aka Orion, that i've learn from you . In the meantime i am hoping your new site to be sucesseful 😉. Keep posting videos, they are just awesome. Strong hugs

    Are there any books and websites which are recommended in learning about the constellations without getting in the modern sense of astrology/divination? EW Bullinger had written a book called Witness of the Stars, but that was over a century ago.

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not all apps on the phone for stargazing are created equal. This is why I prefer not to use an app. It is really hard to translate the whole sky on a tiny screen. Virgo is a really large constellation (2nd largest). Corvus the Crow and Bootes are nearby. I hope you find it! It is very faint. Good luck!

    Who is the woman behind that constellation Virgo? Astraea, Persephone or Demeter?

    • @AliceJem
      @AliceJem 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanna know which one fits her... Virgo is closely connected with the constellation Libra which is the Scales of Justice idk which Goddess uses the Scales.

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From my research, all three you mentioned are connected to Virgo.The legends vary so much. Astraea, the Goddess of Justice, is definitely connected to Libra and they are right next to each other in the sky. There are legends about Demeter, Goddess of the Harvest, destroying crops because Hades kidnapped her daughter Persephone. I wish I could give you a more straight forward answer. There are so many varieties of legends and they change culture to culture. They are even different within the same culture!

    How many stars and planets are in Virgo?

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So far, there are 35 confirmed exoplanets orbiting stars in Virgo, however that can change as astronomer discover more exoplanets. As for how many stars, depends how you look at it. There are 25 main stars in the pattern, but any star located in the border of the constellation is considered part of it, even if it is not part of the pattern.
