Video with a good explanation. Thank you. In Orion´s belt there is a star called Mintaka wich raises on the sky every day exactly at East point and sets down on the horizon exactly at West. This was a way that ancient sailors used to guide ships in the middle of the Oceans.

Hi, jeanine (?). I suppose we should get in fast and learn where it is now, cos when ol' betelgeuse goes we'll only have a few years before we lose one side of the triangle!
Since Procyon is Greek ('before the dog'), and translated Greek is funny about the letter 'C', I've always called it PROK YON. Just saying.
Love your vids. Learned loads. (Not that it matters much; I live in England. Can't say much about the night sky but, I can tell you loads about clouds... and rain... and mist... and bloody clouds. Once-in-a-lifetime comet comes round. Did I see it? Did I f...airycakes!)
@@HiR0SHi.the.D0G Hi.First, I'm no expert. I just read a lot 🙂Second: No. The greek word for dog is Skylos (Skeeloss). Pocyon (prokyon) translates wroughly as before the dog. You know what translations are like.
Where Greek and Latin is concerned, many of the words we use have been 'Anglicised', that is, made to fit in with normal English pronunciation. Most, if not all, the letter 'Cs' are hard in Greek (K's). In Latin there is no soft 'G' (as in gin). Hope this all makes sense and remember, I'm no expert. 🙂

I've been seeing this without recognizing it. I've been trying to see Monocerus but haven't been able to make it out. I have no trouble finding Orion, Taurus, Gemini tho.
Since I'm a newbie at this, you are in the northern hemisphere but what direction do you look to find this, north, south, east or west ? It would be easier to understand if you say which direction you look at, thank you for great info.

I have thought about this, but there are so many other good channels out there that have done this. There are 110 Messier objects...it might take me a while to do it! 🙃😀
My grandchildren get amazed at what they can see with a telescope. The Pleaides really blew them away as it was just a blurry spot in the sky until magnified.
Would have been useful to have a quick view of the Winter Triangle as seen from the Southern Hemisphere.

Yes, this is something that can easily be seen even in areas with lots of light pollution.

I can see Bootes in the morning around 4-5am. It is definitely possible, but depends on where you live like mentioned in earlier comments

Hi I’m from Australia and searching for answers. No trolling comments thanks. I still cant understand how we see the same night sky if we are traveling thru space? Is it simple because they are so far away? And why is it that the stars are tracked as rotating east to west around the celestial north. I’m starting to think we do live under a dome like the Bible tells us and our pretty celestial ceiling spins around us. Just like the Astronomical Planisphere shows
