Though there was definitely a rivalry back in the day, but like always, I think a lot of the animosity was really hyperbolic sensationalism from the music media.
Sixx Sense I listen to your show all the time on the Nashville classic rock station. It really grew on me and I love hearing someone who really lived it talk about music and life in general. I saw you the last couple times Motley Crue was at Bridgestone Arena. You guys put on an amazing show.
Do really find it adds that much? Like, I like looking at Het as much as anyone but I find listening to long form interviews like this, I'm not watching the screen anyway.
@@fe5018 You're right that it would be just as easy to imagine it because it's just 2 people sitting and talking. So it would be quite interesting to see what Nikki's face looks like while James is talking and vice versa
@@skornthesnake6935, in that case, I agree. Decades worth of video show Hetfield getting all shifty and kind of fidgety when he's being "diplomatic" and answering with PR polish, so I would actually like to have seen that too, now that I think about it.

This is my new favorite podcast. Nikki is the new Howard Stern but he's more compelling because he's done stuff that very few have done and deals with his uber-accomplished guests as an equal. This is awesome.
As kid I thought both Motley Crue and Metallica walked on water. I only knew what MTV and the metal mags had to say about them. I knew they drank and partied and scored hot chicks, etc, but I had no idea that a percentage of my heroes were/are on heroin and coke, pills, God knows what else. Even though they have grown old and wise and began recovery from their addictions they have reinforced themselves as true heroes to me
Pretty cool interview🤟 I dig how Nikki being a super star himself actually listened to his guest 🤟 good on you bro! Made the interview sooooo much better🤟a class act!
True, man. They all (us too!!) were a lot younger then, with a lot more to prove to each other in terms of rivalry. Confidence has grown in tandem with perspective. I was astounded when I saw this in the list: I have LOVED both these bands since the mid 80's, and it warms my heart that these 2 old soldiers are friends.
Never say never, I was (and still am) a big fan of Mark Dacascos and I've been his fan since I was 16 and when I was 33 I actually met him at a Comic Con in Germany. I got to talk with him a little bit and when I told him I've been his fan since I was 16 he actually got up from the table he was sitting at and hugged me. I must say that was one of the highlights of my life. So you never know, you might meet James someday if you find yourself in the right spot at the right time.
The lion king of metal. James is so cool! So much love and respect for him and the guys of Metallica. I’ve been a huge fan since they started. Thank you for your commitment to music., omg! 🤣 the aging process!! 😂😂🤗 agreed, I would rather spending time being human and talk. It’s more personal. Why I enjoyed selling drum gear. I got to know people. I’m am still so grateful that Metallica asked me to manage their Facebook page. Papa Hetfield..thank you. Awesome interview guys.
Its actually awesome to see how people can mature and be friends. They were teenagers back then. Remember the shit you said and the things you all did as teens, then judge.
NO VIDEO????????????????????????????? IN 2017???????????????????????????? WTF!? :((( Out of that. Jesus, James has SOOOO MAGNIFICENT, DEEP, SEXY VOICE!!! MELTING MY HEART, MAKING ME FEEL...MMM... I think I would listen to him even if he ''sings'' the phone book...
Matt Rock - Exactly, dude. It is a radio show. I get SO frustrated when see comments of people (kids, of course) essentially demanding video for every freaking radio show, radio clip, podcast..etc. It drives me crazy. They should consider themselves fortunate that they have instant access to such a great radio show with such an amazing interview. ..Frig, I'm only 35. But when I was younger, I would have freaking killed for a radio show like Sixx Sense. I remember when radio was all we had. I used to sit with my FM radio on, with a cassette tape queued, at the ready to record new songs off of the radio. Now, kids just have to push a couple of buttons on the computer...or even phone (which is essentially a handheld computer) and instantly, they have access to any song that was ever recorded. The kids born after 95 or 96 don't know any different. They were born into the era of 'home internet" hehe. I remember going to my mom's office at a Canadian university in the early 90's because she had access to the internet at work. This was before Internet Explorer or Netscape Web Browsers even existed. We used programs like Gopher, IRC, Mosiac, FTP Servers and Newgroups to access TEXT and a few pictures. haha. I feel old..but that was only 20 years ago. ...by 94 or 95, ISP's started popping up and we could now access the internet at home with 14.4 modems. These kids couldn't deal with downloading at a max speed of 1.4 KBPS haaahha 1.4 MBPS would driver them crazy. I remember getting my first 28.8 modem and thinking that I had scored it big. ...sorry about the rant. But it was really fun to reminisce and recall my first days on the internet. Besides, I know how to properly type, so typing this whole thing might have taken me 1 or 2 minutes. Frig, I remember taking a typing class where we learned how to type on a typewriter in highschool. The next year, we took QBasic programming classes hahaha Kids today don't even have to learn how to write HTML if they want to make a webpage. Frig. ..so kids, stop complaining about the lack of video and actually slow down and listen to a RADIO SHOW. I dig radio. I miss normal radio.
Its good to see, and hear James speak with Nikki, and the video Nikki did with Scott Ian. They're getting older, and they're more mature, they've moved past the animosity, or hate, or anger, theres no room for that in their lives. Its all Rock n Roll,, were all influenced by the same stuff, and they express it differently, style wise. I think Nikki is bringing everyone together with his show, and its great to hear and see.
Metallica is a very smart band, even back in the old days they were always careful and didn't let anyone tell them what they were going to do! Even when they went commercial they were in charge which is unheard of. This was their band and they were doing everything the way they wanted, not any manager, label, or fan was going to tell them anything. Their music is phenomenal and timeless! All of this together contributes to them being money 💰 making machines. Which makes them able to enhance all of these things. They should be the example of what a truly successful band is. The truest talent for metal I have ever seen, and believe me I've got a lot of favorites but there's something they have that no one else does, I know this may sound silly but it's kind of magical! Their songs can move you and take you somewhere else and that's why they are the biggest metal band in the world 🌎!!
I grew up on both these bands. Loved both these bands. I graduated more towards the Thrash Metal but I used to and still get upset when the Crue is called hair metal or glam rock. They are a RocknRoll band. If anything a hard rock band. Keep the creativity alive Nikki got mad respect for you.
Once, when asked how they decided to work with producer Bob Rock, Lars said he loved the drum sounds from Motley's Feelfood...James was quoted as saying, something along the lines of, we're gonna work with the guy that produced our mortal enemy? FYI Motley Crue AND Metallica were formed same year 1981 ✌♥️🤘
i love James cos hes always been the 6.2 badass who kept himself together when drunk, photos of him near motley crue is cool, them young really seemed like Metallica would kick there ass especially in the 90s, to me no one fucked with Hetfield in the late 80s-90s, even in this interview he leaves so cool like the Legend he is. So glad to see these 2 talking cos and getting along well cos they both had rough upbringings, both suffered addictions, but both are song writers and composers, James is cool with Tommy it would be really damn cool to see him with them and maybe even Kirk aswell!
@@davedecker1725 yes. But he didn't get medical attention then. He just woke up in a dumpster. Surprised they didn't add that the the movie. They should have added some stuff from the Heroin Diaries too
I honestly used to have Nikki, cause he seemed to hang on to his egotistic attitude, but now I think he's awesome, & changed for the better. Maybe his near death experience from heroin changed him. But Cruefest 09 they had Godsmack on tour, & Godsmack said that was the worst tour they've ever been on, the egos were high as fuck, & that's why they wrote Crying like a bitch, Nikki knows it's about him, but Sully also made it clear although he rightfully didn't see any names, but that he's glad that person is like that, cause the song is really badass & I love that song. But I think Nikki is cool as fuck now, & this interview just made my respect for Nikki skyrocket! It's also really cool that they didn't talk about they rivalry in the 80s, that in it self just tells you, that's water under the bridge, & it may never be spoken about again from themselves personally, but of course you know the social media haters are gonna talk shit.
Metallica were definitely firing on all cylinders in Denver in 2017! I’ve been to a lot of shows, I’ve seen most of my favorite bands, I’ve seen some of the loudest bands ever, and I’ll say this: Metallica in Denver on the Worldwired 2017 tour was BY FAR the loudest show I’ve ever been to. What I love about this interview is the camaraderie between Nikki and James; especially knowing how much Metallica and Mötley hated each other back in the day. Time heals all. I’m a little biased though; Mötley Crüe and Metallica are two of my top five favorite bands of all time. I would have killed to see that Moscow show back in ‘91. Metallica, AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, and f*cking Pantera. Still gives me chills!!!
I was a teen in the 80's, and my band for a while was Aerosmith - then they put out Dude looks like a lady lol. But I was getting into metal, and I remember the rift - you either liked Thrash, or Hair bands, not both. I was into Metallica, Slayer, Maiden... But Crew (and Ratt) were one of the bands that I remember you could like and not get ostracized over it. It's kind of petty thinking about it now... I remember GnR coming out with Appetite for Destruction - and when I finally broke down and listened to it, I loved it, but I would hide the tape in my car so my friends wouldn't see it lol... Young, dumb, full of cum..... Great interview btw....
Mine was Van Halen, until I found the metal. And then you drift away from those things that are a lot less heavy. I always wanted heavier and heavier, after the black album came out, I stopped buying new Metallica albums. Pantera was heavier, and then I found black and death metal, and it's been a black winter ever since :-)
My 2 #1 Rock Gods!!! I f'ing love these two dudes! Nikki f'ing Sixx. James f'ing Hetfield. Are there any other bigger 2 bad asses of rock and roll ?! No I think not. Nikki just gets better looking with age and James has gotten better with age!🤘
I guess most of us have seen the "Metallica-hookers" meme, and this is the interview to hit those close-minded people with. Every time. Both Nikki & James came from broken homes with resentment towards their parents. Fact. To me the metal community is about unity, no matter if you dig Warrant or Obituary. I love both of those bands BTW, and a whole lot of bands from the subgenres in between. ;)
After MetallicA became popular they ended up taking a lot of Motley Crue fans with them . So I believe that's where the initial beef started between the two bands. Also Motley was pissed that MetallicA took Bob Rock with them as well later on in MetallicA's career. I'm glad to see now that they all have put that to pass and have grown as the artist we respect them for....Classic Interview !
What are you talking about? Do you have any idea how many bands Bob Rock produced before & after Motley Crue? You act like Bob Rock had some exclusive contract with the Crue, and fans of MUSIC can't like both Motley & Metallica and many others in all genres of music. Everyone has their favorites, but you sound delusional if you think you cannot enjoy different groups and music.
@@tonyponchopeters I was quoting Nikki in an interview around early 90's where he's referring to MetallicA using Bob for their Black album right after M.C. had the hit with the Dr.Feelgood album. I'm sure you can Google the interview it's out there somewhere
@@melissaB.1978This is crazy how most people think they have to pick a band lol. It screams that most of the comments are from younger fans. I LOVE Motley Crue, but I love Metallica, Pink, Anthrax, Shakira, Ax7, Ghost etc.... If you truely love music you love a great, song or album regardless of the genre.
Sorta weird for me this, stay with me please. Given the loathing Metallica had for Crue and other bands like them, Sixx chasing Lars out of a club lmao on pumps, this interview in 'that' sense is for me a full 360 and that is so cool. Cos both are artists. Both are huge. Metallica MASSIVE. Both have made an indelible impact in their genres. I LOVE James. I love the fact in this Trump Derangement Syndrome LollyWood/music industry wankers bashing POTUS James says at the opening of all Metallica concerts "we do not care who you voted for, the colour of your skin, what you do for a job cos tonight we are one, we are Metallica family". Now that is true rock. Keep politics out of music.
Y’all can point out the shit Metallica used to talk about Crüe all you want. Fact is Metallica, in a round about way, owes a lot of their mainstream success to Mötley Crüe. After they heard Dr. Feelgood they hired Bob Rock to produce the black album. That’s a fact.

Gary Sanders...well said. As I posted above this is so fucking sweet as. R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Survivors.
The thing is most Thrash bands from that era are still around while most glam acts are just Gone !!

Gary Sanders it’s called “ getting old”. 👍

I wish
Great interview! ~~~ Lol! Fly through the air on a sparkly unicorn. I would LOVE to see them perform at the Superbowl! BUT.. I understand. :) Still got to see them in concert in Houston last month. OMG. ROCKED NRG Stadium! Best concert EVER!
TexasToRnADo Superbowl doesn't deserve such a legendary act like Metallica I can say this because I just saw them in San Diego 20 hours ago
Wow! James and Nikki talking and leaving the old rivalry behind! That’s awesome!!!!
I love James voice! Even when he is not singing, his voice sounds amazing. And Metallica will always be my first love in rock n' roll!❤❤❤
Enough already with James hated this person and hated that person. We hated Japan when they invaded Pearl Harbor. Things change years later.
Nice analogy...
Fuck you
John Mooradian that’s a fucking good example!
@jesse Vortex Sungte
first of all, it's japan who attacked the 'mericans. second, your quote is stupid considering it's the japanese who have mastered the sword.
@jesse Vortex Sungte shut the fuck up. The dove off cliffs with babies in their hands.
Cliff...a missed god
great interview Nikki!!!!
these 2 both had tough up bringing's and suffered addictions, there also both song writers and composers, great interview
Given their history this was such a cool interview
Cool interview two idols from diferentes sides of Metal having a laugh and a good time, thats how it should be , Metal rules!!!.
Though there was definitely a rivalry back in the day, but like always, I think a lot of the animosity was really hyperbolic sensationalism from the music media.
It’s great to be this close and look how far we have come..Motley interviewing Metallica. Great interview Nikki always a fan..
Damn I wish there was video for this,I mean it's 2017 for crying out loud !!!
Hey, Brando! We would have loved a video also, but James was in a different studio.
I think the need to see them stems more from them and more specifically their 2 bands being rivals ever since 1982. And even going so far as hating each others genre.
OMG! This is my dream come true!!! I am proud to say that I've had the pleasure/honor of going to both of these iconic bands concerts. I love 🤘Motley Crue🤘 & 🤘Metallica🤘. They are 2 of my favorite bands of ALL TIME, not to mention that Nikki is my favorite Crue member & James is my favorite Metallica member. I've literally had dreams about being alone in a room with these Rock Gods😉 🤘YOU🤘GUYS🤘ROCK🤘

@@Aimeeejolee8019 How come I didn't even know about this reply until 2023. Thanx for nothing yt notifications....
Turns out its impossible to put a camera in a different studio.
Wow!! Metallica & Motley Crue.
This is my new favorite podcast. Nikki is the new Howard Stern but he's more compelling because he's done stuff that very few have done and deals with his uber-accomplished guests as an equal. This is awesome.
Love ❤️ this conversation, thank you Nikki and James!
"Master! - Master!" - Are you sure?...
It probably says this little bit in almost every interview that I've seen in the past decade.
Michael Angelo Hatio, just like Michael Angelo Batio.
I was that 6 year old when my dad showed me them lol
I love Jenn, she has this Sibling like relationship with Nikki, that pretty much sums up at near the ending.
Those are two guys who might understand each other perfectly, occupation hazards and all.
i recall an old interview where Nikki sixx said metallicas music was garbage I'm glad to see that he's come around
Oh wow!!!! People mature and grow up!! That’s astounding!! I don’t I just get older and more bitter😜
He said thrash was boring. I may have read that on Metal Sludge.
Show me one person that Sixx has talked good about and I'll show you where he's talked trashed about them.
I had a dream that I met James once and hung out with him. It was so awesome. It will never actually happen, but it would be pretty cool if it did.
@@adinadamian5634 Hopefully you're right, I've never met any celebrities in my life honestly but I'm still hopeful that I do one day.
How did they not do my favorite riff with him????
Maybe james were in tour
lisng
Its actually awesome to see how people can mature and be friends. They were teenagers back then. Remember the shit you said and the things you all did as teens, then judge.
My 2 biggest hero’s having a conversation that’s crazy
Glad this popped up on the feed! Well done Nikki and Jen
NO VIDEO?????????????????????????????
IN 2017????????????????????????????
WTF!? :(((
Out of that.
Jesus, James has SOOOO MAGNIFICENT, DEEP, SEXY VOICE!!! MELTING MY HEART, MAKING ME FEEL...MMM...
I think I would listen to him even if he ''sings'' the phone book...
It's from his RADIO show. Video isn't required for an insightful conversation. Sit back. Relax. Listen. Enjoy. :)
Matt Rock right, we know what Papa Het and NIKKI look like
Matt Rock - Exactly, dude.
I know right? It said (Audio) I wonder why it didn't have video.. WTF right?
Maria Karenina I’m with you sista!
great interview. just now hearing it
Thanks for getting Clean. It Upped your game to the Best.
“I tell ya...”
Their songs can move you and take you somewhere else and that's why they are the biggest metal band in the world 🌎!!
great interview
James has a great laugh!
14:43
James, ‘Y’know’ Hetfield
Nice, finally we are a friendly and peaceful Metal community!
This is a brilliant interview
I'm picturing '92 James saying all this in my head and it's a weird site to invision.
Omg my favorite guys. Holy crappppp. Yuuuminous.
Dateline 1987, did anyone think James and Nikki would be such deep and intelligent dudes?
Or even alive??
Considering Nikki died in 1987 too lmao
@@seanoconnor5730 I forgot about that! Didn't Nikki also o.d. in 84?
@@davedecker1725 yes. But he didn't get medical attention then. He just woke up in a dumpster. Surprised they didn't add that the the movie. They should have added some stuff from the Heroin Diaries too
@@seanoconnor5730 Or when Nikki ran Stark naked a into the main middle of the street brandishing a crack pipe during the Northridge earthquake?🤣🤣🤣
As far as social media goes these days, if i could get a handshake and and a hey how are ya from james or nikki i would be a happy metalhead!
Dude!! See the picture next to my comments, that's me in the center at the Denver show on 6/7/17. Such a bad ass night!
Two of my heroes.
Super cool James Metallica🎩🎬📽🎸🎹🎢🎡🎪
Flippin hilarious you guys. How cool was that? Really appreciated the discussion
Two of musics best songwriters , just, 'avin a chit chat !! Fuk yeah \m/\m/
Very cool interview. Thanks for posting.
Very helpful for me as I consider my business/life approach in the coming year. Confirmed a few things for me. 👍
Two icons!
Pantera was heavier, and then I found black and death metal, and it's been a black winter ever since :-)
Metallica is all James Hetfield, it's nothing without him !
You don't do rails anymore? WTF?! No breakfast on a mirror?
Wished there was video to this
My 6 year old loves master of puppets i make sure he knows all about good music we jam all the metallica and crue songs
My 5 year niece love seek and destroy 😄 she calls it the crazy song 😂
Great job love ur show
My 2 #1 Rock Gods!!!
I f'ing love these two dudes!
Nikki f'ing Sixx.
James f'ing Hetfield.
Are there any other bigger 2 bad asses of rock and roll ?!
No I think not.
Nikki just gets better looking with age and James has gotten better with age!🤘
Isnt it funny how 30-40 years ago Nikki Sixx was chasing James and Lars down the sunset strip in platform shoes for talking shit and now were here?
Great interview
who would have thought those two would just have an interview
It's funny, At some points Nikki really sounds like Dave Mustaine
Haha he does
and Howard Stern!
I love both of those bands BTW, and a whole lot of bands from the subgenres in between. ;)
lol, When she said, "James, you got your masters." I thought she meant he got a degree. That was funny.
He did actually. A PhD in astrophysics!
Marvin Loverkamp That was fake news 😊
Awesome interview 😍🎸
Should have an interview with Blue Öyster Cult.
Blue Oyster Cult are the most underrated hard rock band
Y’all can point out the shit Metallica used to talk about Crüe all you want. Fact is Metallica, in a round about way, owes a lot of their mainstream success to Mötley Crüe. After they heard Dr. Feelgood they hired Bob Rock to produce the black album. That’s a fact.
James laugh is addictive
I wonder why nikki wouldn't ask, I know you guys didn't like hair metal yall have made that clear through the years love metallica love motley
I love both bands don’t get me wrong but Metallica is Miles ahead of Motley Crue musically
Yea Motley Crue had some glam aspects, but there music was pretty hardcore.
STEPHEN SHELDON the same with W.A.S.P and Dokken
*their music
Pretty much only theater of pain was glam
Glam vs thrash: end
Thrash vs metalcore:??
