I think that's the first drop in I picked up on the radio, I like it. It's a classic and so is "Thanks fellas, have a good weekend".

Dang, my dad got 6 weeks off and 25,000.00 at the BN in 1993 when the engineer blew the horn when he was on the steps...he had a lost a certain amount of hearing for a while...

Wow! I did not know that was something you shouldn't do. When you think about it makes sense. So many rules. Not sure i could have survived the constant scrutiny by management. Hired to be fired?

@@Woofmeter I got written up at the RailNet for that ...I'm not sure if it's a actual rule...alot of conductors that flag crossing don't want engineers blowing....there was a video with a CSX crew arguing about that

I didn't work for railroad, and I appreciate everything you guys tell me about it. It's a tough job with long hours and crazy work schedules. Thank You for your input.

@@Woofmeter I took a buyout at 43....hired when I was late 17 on the Chicago Central....invested 80 percent and took 20 percent to start my company...bought 1 semi, now I'm up to 3, 2 box trucks and 2 vans....I spend 350 days on the road with out going home as no one really even wants to stay out for a week....sure I got 4 great drivers but 3 are always walking away after 3 days .....railway was awesome, I was home every night or every other....I miss it, but I'm making better money now, but it's taking a strain on me....trucking by far is harder then railway, I'm at a point now of trying to get hired on a few shortlines in Florida or Texas ...

Good luck with the short lines Trucking is rough and like you said being away from home that long makes it even worse. Take it from a retired guy. Putting that kind of strain on yourself catches up with you and does take tread off of life's tires. If you can, it's best to find that balance that will get you to the finish line. You don't want to reach retirement all broke down and dealing with health issues. In today's world that is easier said than done, but if you can, put yourself in a position to make that happen. Good Luck, I'm pulling for you.

Yes, it is. I'm just a little guy that likes recording trains hoping that some will enjoy.
