    You should put a ball valve on the bottom discharge pipe be a lot easier than screwing the cap on and off good video

      @djenson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There's no point really though, and a ball valve of that size is unlikely to be cheep nor widely available

      When I 1st started designing this system I thought about using a ball valve. But then I realized it was too expensive.

      I did find one online but it was rather pricey

      Land to House mate is that discharge pipe 1-1/2 inch ?

      @@LandtoHouse replace the cap with an elbow and a bit of pipe sticking straight up, taller than the overflow. to turn on the 'drain' you rotate it so that the pipe is pointing sideways and water will flow. then to turn it off you rotate it back upwards to vertical.

    Fascinating as always.

    Great video series! Could you do a video on what you are actually powering with the system?

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I sure can. There are several videos already filmed and lined up to go live. For example my solar panel install.

    If you had the overflow turn inside and go almost to the bottom, wouldnt the overflow help pull some of the sediment out?

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it sure would! I might do that in the future. The main thing is the barrel is closed up and I do not want to open it up.

      @@LandtoHouse Good idea! Just use a hose and shove it into the overflow pipe. Must be a big diameter, though.

    That's a good design i don't know if you'll consider a ready made Coanda screen in future

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually have been thinking about a new design for the intake. It's going to have a spinning screen on bearings that will sloth off debris based on water flow

    • @EcceJack
      @EcceJack 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LandtoHouse Oh, I've seen that in another TH-cam video (where they had low head/high flow)! I do wonder how much water is lost there in the process of spinning - probably more for high flow scenarios?

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do think it's for high flow but I also think that my screen will spin slower and still work... The design intrigues me and so I'm going to try it haha

    • @kipdennis3796
      @kipdennis3796 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw that design somewhere here on TH-cam, i think it will work well and better keep trying until you get sweet spot, maybe another content for the channel

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm thinking because of my low flow I can add little cups or paddles that will help turn the screen

    Are you allowed to build any kind of a dam on the creek, with concrete?

    I wonder if a 2 barrel setup could be used to help store even more water and help some with keeping the levels steady to help with the turbine

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That might work. The water level is down to 10gpm at the momen in September. Not enough to run a 1/4" nozzle.

  • @zaquiri6658

    how much head do you have for this set up? I've got a stream on my property but I don't think I have significant elevation.

    Why did you install your neighbors catch barrel upside down

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haha good question... that was one of my really old barrels from 5 or 6 years ago. I had drilled the wrong size hole in the bottom.... so upside down was a good way to recycle rather than trash.

    I wouldnt say the water was coloured more dirty. Coloured is used in a different context; unless, that's what you wanted to say.

    It's just a convinience issue when it get cold, in the mid winter, put a valve on that drain rather then having your hand get cold with threaded pipe plug. Otherwise it's fine!..
