Well, in 1954 when this TV show aired, ( we didn't have TV's in St. Ives then), I'd memorised every line of Sing3 down to the coda drum solo; ( from the 1938 Carnegie Hall version). My party piece was to hum it all the way through....but I've never seen this clip; congratulations, 'crippleDrummer, for posting it. 'Dizzy Spells' from the 1938 concert, with Lionel Hampton, is a small group masterpiece; Sing3 from the concert is the definitive version......Charlie Shavers!.. a jazz star!...but how about Sid Ceasar on tenor!

Benny was at the absolute height of this technical powers here. He had just spent quite a bit of time studying with great Brit classical clarinetist,. Reginald Kell, and was shortly to cut a Mozart recording with the Boston Symohiny. His playing here is unmatchable.

Well looks like he’s playing quarter notes With his right hand of the snare around 4or 5 o’clock position now the question is is he buzzing the right hand when he strikes on one on two on three and on four or is he playing single taps it looks like the left hand is playing on two and four on the snare drum and he’s buzzing and getting a legato feel on the backbeats! My question is is he buzzing the right hand on each quarter note or is he playing single clean distinct taps and of course he varies that rhythm during the solos anybody know what the right hand is doing buzzes or is he pressing the stick into the head or is he playing clean single Taps
I’ll consulting original copy of a gene Krupa drum method see if that’s in there anywhere that rhythm

Wow?...ill tell ya...after listenin to some of these original recordings, I realize NOW how much MANY have been cleaned up, RE eqed. Hell, I watched SO MANY videos last night I cant remember if it was Gene or Louie sayin how ya couldnt hear the top end on those old 78s and TV audio, and got worse when gtr and electric bass hit the scene. Only had ONE cassette tape of Genes playin with Buddy and it was wore out by 73. Even at 13, I connected with Gene, more so than Buddy. I thought, Ill see this Cat on Carson, Douglas, Griffin etc soon. Then ..on CBS 6 pm news, soon after entering this whole new world of JR HIGH band,we heard of Genes passing😟...We were givin an orange/black paper back book of 20 of the greatest jazz drummers of all time and we kinda made fun of all the ones in suites/ties ,lookin like bankers sayin" look at these cats with small 3-4 pc kits, they cant play dressed like that?.LOL.THEN... we OOOH & AHHH when we see Ginger, Carmine, Cozey Powel, with LONG hair and HUGE kits, think THEY were the BEST..LOL..I lost that book somewhere along the way. Cant find it on the WWW?...Theres one that looks similar ,written in 91 but its different. REALLY appreciate these PRICELESS uploads !😎

Amazing clip! Three of the all-time masters of their instruments at the peak of their powers. And people think the boppers were the only ones to have technically mastered their instruments.

Sing Sing Sing by Louis Prima. It was famously showcased by Benny at the Carnegie Hall concert in 1938.
