Dear Calvin, the best teacher is the one who teaches you to learn without a teacher. Learn to search on your own. Go to Google, enter the composer, title of work, and IMSLP in the search box, and you will find many editions. Choose an edition with fingering that suits your hand structure. Tell me you did it?
@@davdiste set it to the speed where both of your hands can play well together, practice a short section at a time by gradually increasing the tempo upon each repeat
hi jane, thanks for those videos , but can u tell me how to get the most out of your videos because i am lost, i don't know how to start. should i look at your finger and follow them or read the sheet music. thanks again for your time and effort
Had hoped that all would learn to read music, then try to follow the score. Did you look at my sight-reading lessons? Viewers have surprised me though, learning pieces by ear and imitation. That means whichever way suits you best, is ok...
Hi Jane, I have been a self taught pianist for about a year now and I have recently just (almost) completed this piece. The only thing that I seem to have difficulty with is the group of semi quavers near the end, for some reason I find this to be the most difficult part of the piece when playing it at tempo. Do you have any advice or tips, I also would like to know what piece you would recommend after properly learning this piece
Hi KeY, practice only the end part that you find troublesome. Set the metronome to a very slow tempo. When few mistakes, tick the speed up a little, so little that you don't even notice the difference. Repeatedly practicing like this forms finger muscle memory, soon you will reach tempo, and play evenly. As far as what piece to play next, you should choose a piece you like. If you can sightread through the piece without too much difficulty, it is the correct level for you.
Hi @Jane, from minute 3:44 of the video where the score says "simile" the pedal is no longer indicated. It's because it must not be used or because the use il similar as before? thanks very much!
I did this one, with Jane's help and a teacher. Jane: I have a serious musical proposition. I have found Liszt to be fascinating, but too hard in most cases. I need a level 7 or less piece suggested by you; from Liszt's works. I have found La Campanella, and the Hungarian rhapsody #2, very monstrous. Do you think Un Sospiro, or Liebstraum (famous love dream) would be more my level? That is all I ask. What level of play is the latter mentioned? I want to learn.
Piano Man42 No those are also of high level (un sospiro is performance level) You could opt for simplified version of pieces such as Claydermann liebestraum Bendel version of Hungarian rhapsody Consolation 1, 3, 6 and en reve have been recommended www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php?topic=44871.0

The left hand part is too scarily hard. Left hand is busier than right hand and has big jumps and big-hand chords. 😕 How to approach it to begin with? (Really appreciate your tutorials)
Pick one line that looks difficult. Then carry out this experiment: set a metronome to your competent 2-hand speed, mistake-free. The keep repeating the line by ticking the beat up by 1 bpm until you reach the desired tempo. If you learn it well, that means you can learn the entire piece. good luck!
Hi Roberto, to answer your question, I would have to start the video, set the metronome to 60 bpm (1 sec per beat), then adjust it up or down to match the video. Will let you try that, so that you will be able to find the tempo of any video
Many viewers manage to just listen, observe, then imitate. And keep practicing it until it sounds good. To learn classical piano seriously, start with my sight-reading lessons, practice one set of scales/arpeggios each week. The latter are invaluable for building technique.
Hello, I have a question, if I learn this song with this tutorial without having read the sheet or anything, but still able to play it, does that mean that I'm a pianist or that I can play the piano or not?
The act of playing piano does not equate to being a _pianist_. Learning this piece by rote would be an accomplishment, and you can certainly claim you _play the piano_. Will you become a pianist? Only if you build a comprehensive repertoire and play superbly. To achieve that, it would be difficult without reading music.
