This is crazy! This truck was in my family for three generations! My Grandfather bought it and when he passed, it got passed to my father. My father then drove it around for years and then gave it to my brother to restore. My brother then sold it to Derek. It’s so exciting to see the truck that I shared many drives in with my dad still on the road!

@@72Z15SS I agree that it's up there but the Model A Ford that he drove 723 miles is a tough one to beat. This story on this truck is very good for sentimental reasons but when a 96 year old car made it 723 miles without going on the back of a toe hook, that to me is a story for the ages.
Little man was a absolute legend! Never complained not one time and that looked very cold riding for that many miles. Hats off to him!!

My wife passed away from lupus in 2021 but I can still appreciate when a man goes to the extreme to make his wife happy. Well done, Derek and Merry Christmas. Just two things an old boy noticed. 1) The truck looks a lot better with Jessica driving it and 2) It don't sit as low with her as it did with you. ;-)

I love cars and mechanics and have watched hundreds of entertaining and videos on auto repair from other channels. yours is by far the most entertaining. enjoyed the heck out of this. When a poor, single dad, my son and would take cheap trips to nowhere and he still talks about those road trips and the fun times of togetherness. I’m so glad she got that truck. Nobody sees the work Jessica puts in, she is always working just like Derek. Just my opinion: This was the best episode in a while. Every episode is good but seeing you put so much effort into doing something special for your wife is really nice. Also, including your son was great. I am certain you all made a ton of memories that you will carry with you.

I'm only a little passed the 7min mark. I want to thank you, not only for sharing this video but also for creating the memory with your son. My dad wasn't around much when I was young and I'm now doing my best to create moments like this with my children. I can only imagine the way your son will tell this story to his children someday. He will remember the trip long after Derrick is gone. I have memories like that with my grandfather- and that's more than 50 years ago. These last forever.

I'm 66, I've never forgotten a road trip with dad when I was 8. He said, "hey, son, want a hot dog?" I said, "yes Sir." So we took a quick 120 mile drive and spent the night with my grandparents. I thought we weregoing to the grocery store until we got to Alabama. Lil dude wont forget

This was the first video I have seen for a couple months. I lost my wonderful wife to cancer and have been busy with other things. The last time I was caught up on viewing, you had flooding in your new garage etc. I wondered then if you would get too stressed or too busy to pay enough attention to your family. This video did my heart good as it shows they are never to far from your heart. Nice job, even though I'm seeing this in February it still makes me happy that you remember what is important in life! Once they are gone it's too late for caring! Great family and video.
Jessica's response to finding out it was Longmire was awesome! She lit up so happy. A feller knows how to please his wife, that's for sure. I think Longmire deserves a new floor and rockers and seal it all up. Put some custom inner fenders up front and fix up on the ole' airbags, she will then be one of Jessica's best Going to Town rigs. Being an old truck driver, if you are running air brakes or airbag suspension you have to run alcohol in the lines or have installed an air dryer system. You should drain the air tanks when done driving for the day. it will remove any water in the tanks.
Derek is such a remarkable person, with such a great family. This is the American dream. This is the kind of people I raised my right hand to fight for.

I remember driving around with my Dad in the winter having to balance a 5 gallon roofing tar bucket filled with Coal for heat in our 50's International Travel-all truck as we went all around. Good Times!
