I have watched this vid over 20 times and I learn something new every time. Thanks for sharing your craft with those of us who need it...like me!
He just got gold with a pan faster than people I have been watching with machines, so maybe I don’t need a bunch of expensive equipment to try this. Nice 👍
When your on good ground, you could use a 1950's Ford hubcap!
Just get on some good ground, then any pans a good pan...
I'm thankful that he's generous enough to share his years of experience with the rest of us. I'm going gold panning next month in Georgia. I can't wait to try what he teaches in this video.
I panned out 6.41 ounce this past summer. My wife was against all the time I spent in the water until I cashed in the gold.
she hates that you're a real gold digger
Panning is so underrated because people either dont want to do the work or they dont have the patience. Yet they will spend hours running a sluice that dumps as much gold out the end as they catch just to get as much gold as was carefully panned here in about 7 minutes. Excellent technique!
Yes !!! And there is even more field panning technique !
This is the best tutorial on how to use a pan I have came across, another awesome tutorial is shown by the guy who does the gold hog vids, he does an in depth tutorial on it.
Two toe mining ....How to pan with Gerry .....or "WalNLiz" Australia ( Panning for gold )
Ive watched alot of Panning since I was a little girl.My Dad used to promise us "one day we will go pan for gold".We used to sit and watch those "panning for Gold" shows all the time. Then as adults my brother and I used to talk of doing it also and life goes on and still havent gone panning. Finally bought my "kit" last week and jumped right in.Dang,I had know idea how hard it would really be.Got frustrated and put it aside.Just watched your video and I must say "YOU ARE THE BEST!!! Love it!
LOL i worked with this guy all summer!! I've heard this speach so many times and it never gets old
nice, a very helpful video with the tips.
I'm officially a gold prospector. Used my pan for the first time today. I pay close attention now.
I used mine for the first time yesterday, I didn't find anything but I'm still going back but more equipped this time :P
+godsword12 Heck Yeah. Almost two years now and I got a sluice box since.
I'm just saving at the moment for a sluice but as soon as I get one I'm going to take a tent and camp by the river for a weekend and see what I get :P
Well, Equinox 800 will be here first part of next week 8/2/18 and I'll be using the goldfield mode..
@@therrienmichael08 I started about a month ago found about 3 grams so far.. Need to find ounces though!!.
There's so much wisdom in this, respect old timer!
Been scouring youtube for a few days. This is by FAR the best instructional on panning!
Finally a close up shot 7 min into a 7 1/2 min video....brilliant!
Great presentation. Nothing like watching a pro make something look so easy...
Fantastic panning tutorial! Sending lots of love and warm greetings from Missouri.
Well done Gary Smith! (haven't seen you for a few years, but proud to say I know you!!)
Just found out today that this legend lives right below me in the same building!
He doesn't even use one of them fancy plastic pans with the riffles.
But they are way faster.
I bet that song is still on playing there on repeat to this day!
This is the most excellent concise instructional video on the panning technique that anyone ever will need.
From one miner to another, that’s some world class panning my friend! Nicely done
There is amazing artistry in what he does...it's funny how this level of mastery (of anything for that matter) is so compelling to watch...and, it doesn't take a college education to spot it.
The greatest generosity is shearing knowledge, experience and truth. Thank you, great video!
Nothing bests the advice of someone who has been doing this so long. Thank you for your advice. Can you show a vid on how to do this with clay? I'm in the Mojave and a lot of the time in working with clay.
this was the most informative video i have see on here. i hope i can get some gold when i start. my goal is to pan three pounds so i can buy a house
Thank you Gary Smith. That was very informative. Thank you BCghostTownsDOTcom for sharing this.
This guy is awesome! Great, informative video. Looking forward to gold panning in the creek later.
that is frigging awsom great video....im subscribing
Omg that was so cool. That much gold from one little bit of sand and gravel like that. He must be rich!
Great video. Thanks for teaching me more about panning that I could have ever found out on my own. Truly helpful.
I'm Riding my mountain bike with my trailer and camping suplies along with my homemade sluce box back to the city I live in, from a town called Owen Sound located in Ontario Canada.I live in Hamilton Ontario and I have a route planned out for the trip home.I will be slucing and panning along the way . I hope to use the information that I recieved from watching your video to assist me in finding gold. Thanks for posting this wonderful video, it leaves you feeling like you've learned something.
Any luck on the panning between Owen Sound and Hamilton?
I finally found my gold pan in that bunkhouse of ours (basically a huge shed) after two days! I've been looking through every drawer that wasn't blocked and it was just on a top shelf! There's a creek down by the road not far from where I live, looks really hard to get to because it's in its own little canyon, I might look for gold in there.
Hi i live in prince george barkerville is my favorite place! Great video!
i remember this very guy teaching me to gold pan when i visited barkerville. amazing!
awesome accent, very skilled many thanx.
Your are a great man Gary. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. Regards from New Zealand

I wish I lived closer, I would love to visit Barkerville Ghost Town...
I love this guys voice, great video, GOD BLESS his soul!!!
This is really really good. I will have to try it some day.
great video from someone who actually knows what he is doing.
going panning next weekend first time, thankyou your giving me the inspiration
Gary if you were at Barkerville in the late 70s you probably taught me how to pan because I pan Identical as this system ironic never forget , Funny you`d think that the Cottonwood would be worked over by many minors since the 18-1900 hundreds but we panned out 3gr in one weekend still have it Thanks.
I went out panning this weekend for the first time in 26 years, I was 5. I wish I had seen this video first. I had spent a season living on a small mine [placer?] on the cottonwood river or lightening creek?, just out of quesnel. One of the most memorable summers of my life. I don't think I've ever seen anyone use a pan properly until now. I was pretty close, that rotation is an excellent tip.
May it is to long away .... 12 years .... I was mining on the cottonwood and lightning for years ,- and there are old timers ( one just past away in cottemwood ) with exellent skills !
THanks I learned at least 5 new panning tricks
Thank you SIR!!!
GOD BLESS YOU...
Can't wait for my first season in panning
Have not been able to to much with that last teaspoon of black sand, so this video is very helpful. Still learning.
good vid i took an old rusty pan my father had from the yukon and panned a nearby riverbank with the technique you showed in this vid and what ya know two "very-small" flakes my first pan
Finally someone explained it so an old clod like me could understand it! Hey my name's Smith...we must be related!
Thanks
You should make more videos , top notch.
I'd screamwith joy if I found a pinker! The black sand bar has skunked me, but I'm just starting out and haven't had much time. I finally gotyour panning technique down wellenough I get a lot of flour and a flake hear and there. The last step walking whats left of the gravel takes touch, but I'm getting better and have a pool in my yard i bring back samples to practice on and see what's there. I'm going to try popping some rocks here shortly.
what a great explanation and demonstration! thanks for posting! :)
Beautiful technique
Awesome stuff
Excellent. Thanks!
I use the same exact pan he has and was worried it wouldn't work. I've watched this a million times and still can't get it correct. I may just not be getting good soil, and finally got a bucket with a screen to seperate all of those larger stones. All kinds of Quarts where I'm digging, huge chunks with veins in them too. I found a spot the other day that had a a gravel bar of what looked like just black sand. Lots of smaller pieces of quartz and lead when I washed a couple handfulls off.
awesome clip
Wonderful video!
Very good video and great master of goldpanning. My hat is down from my head ;-)
I was there 8 odd years ago, from Dublin.
nice music in the background :)
and awesome video, of course!
Thank you for the video.
Very well explained. Not only said what to do but why.
Hi orangedac, The pan is just a regular metal pan.
There are gold baring creeks in Ontario just read some History books for your area. If gold was ever taken out there will still be some to be found.
Good Luck and thanks for your email.
John
Great video thank you
Amazing tutorial👌🏻
Excellent explanation.
old is gold so this old is like a gold
thanks mr smith
Great work, nice video, also knowledge based, thanks
Thank you!
awesome!!! i think im gonna live off the land now! thanks for posting.
I have 5 seasonal creeks on my 20 acres that I live on, what am I looking for besides the black sand to find gold? I have already found some really small flakes but I just wanted to know if there is a way to know when I am close to some good size stuff? The video taught me I have been doing it all wrong, thanks a million!
I live in New York State.Havent found any clubs yet.Just been one of those dreams since I was little.
Hi no they were not 71 grams but natural nuggets that size take on extra value. But gold is very dense.
Thanks for your comment and happy panning...
Very cool to learn!
You're the man thanks for the info
I wish i had watched this vid before i started 7 weeks ago.I got most of the techniques myself by trial and error but i would never have got the "swirl" right.
Cheers for a great vid
holy cow! thanks for posing this
i learned so much thank you
and do you remember me i'm from mountveuw elemantry
my class when to the gold panning with you guys
Thank you for the video
mad goldpanning skills!
This guy is pro. So legit.
YOur awesome thanks for the wonderful info on the pan ... YOur the godfather of gold paning :)
Nice one.
hey all i went gold panning for my first time yesterday and had a great laugh at 3:20 in the video. That was me for sure, was doing 2 pans per hour in fear of losing a flake and only to end up with a bunch of gravel still in my pan.
Found a few flakes though.
Amazing experience
Hi @akhero47 The nuggets are under two ounces Troy But large nuggets have a higher retail than just their troy weight.
Thanks for your comment
John
great video..what kind of oil did you bake the pan with..cooking oil..motor oil?
Impressive...
Thanks helped alot
good video
looking for more country like this - banjo, fiddle, simple rhythms. any suggestions?
Great skill you have there. would this work on -500 mesh head ore that is platinum and gold? I do not have base metals but the particals of metal and silica are so fine that it seems I can't seperate the metals fro the silica. I currently fire a 1 lb batch of head ore with pre mix platinum flux
then separate from there. Im trying to release the metal from the silica so I can fire the metal direct, would appreciate any feed back. thanks for posting this vid. great job.!
Awesome mate! thanks for sharing this , now going to get myself a nice pan, and harvest that beauty.. ^_^
Always nice to learn how other's pan for gold as you never know when you might pick up a tip that really helps make a difference ;) ;) I know I did ;) ;)
well could you explain what kind of a pan is it? would that technique work with a stainless steel pan?
i feel like running down to the local creek with a pan from the kitchen. i know the only thing i'll get is a sore back by the end of it all.
To begin with, is there any gold to be found in the toronto area in ontario or would i be wasting my time?
Old dude, got skillz!
