    We want to show you a technique that finds me Gold every time when I go to a new place I have never prospected before. I also want to see if I can find Gold faster with the old style metal pan that the " Old Timers " used or is my Garrett Super Sluice the better pan. If you have tips and tricks that you use to find Gold in new areas, we would like to hear about them, so leave us a comment below and if you like Geology videos then you will love this video. th-cam.com/video/L4wGMdZA3lg/w-d-xo.html

    I agree. I go a plastic pan over a metal pan every time. If you are panning in a cold climate your hands freeze while holding the metal pan, also the rust (that happens so fast) on the metal pan makes doing the swirl at the end a bit harder to check for gold.

    Man I'd love if you were to talk and explain about all the gold from North Carolina and how it formed and came to be, geological wise.
    Back in the 1800s they were find gold chunks by the pounds. Mr. Reed used a 17lb. Nugget as a door stop for years before he was told how valuable it was and they began to mine it. I think a 33lb. Nugget was the biggest. They were finding so much gold Charlotte became a mint for decades because it was to much a danger to haul it to Philadelphia mint.
    Anyway your knowledge is outstanding and hearing you breaking it down Barney style for us here on the east coast would be the bees knees.
    Either way thanks for your time making vids. Much appreciated here.

    • @Expo6
      @Expo6 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A year late, but the formation processes are roughly the same here as where Jeff is. The Carolina slate belt is basically a region where metamorphic rock (Lots of slate and schist) is very close to the surface, and gold originates in veins where contact zone fissures filled in via hydrothermal deposition. Jeff is in an area with a rich history of volcanism so a lot of the base rock is different than what we have in the Carolina’s, but you can still find similar intrusive structures like he show cases.

I’ve learned a lot from watching this video and cannot wait to watch additional ones. Can I ask where you were panning? In which state? Also, what is the easiest way to determine whether or not a specific area has already been found to have gold. Are there any states in the Northeast known for it? I'm in NJ and have never heard of gold in the area but when I was a young girl we used to go to a dirt mountain and find all kinds of stones. I recall finding petrified wood, quartz, fool's gold and that's pretty much all I can specifically recall (it was 52 years ago!). I thought fool's gold was considered to be a marker for where gold can be found. There's a lake at the bottom of where the dirt mountain used to be. It is now a grass hill (as a 5 year old it was a mountain! Lol). There was also a ravine that flowed into the lake. My recent understanding from my mother was that the lake was actually man-made. Would it be worthwhile to at least check the ravine if it's still there? How do you know when it's absolutely useless? Where would you say the best place to check would be for a first timer? Thanks again for sharing the knowledge. It is so appreciated!

    Working for the DoD, Airforce
    Before the plastic pans..
    I took my metal pan, to work
    I modified the pan to work 100% better by making nodifications.
    I showed others at work that were into prospecting how well it worked, they had theirs modified the same way..
    Back then checking on how much it would cost to produce them, the cost of production outweighed the cost to buter and since the market isnt that huge, it never went to production.
    The plastic ones are equal or maybe better..

      One was plated gold for a Department manager to hang on his wall.

I like the tip about tributaries and a good quartz float presence. It all makes sense. Thats what I love about gold panning it's a mystery but one you can solve.

    Question???? I work in a iron ore mine and there is lots of quartz is it worth the time to grind it down for gold or not

    • @Askjeffwilliams
      @Askjeffwilliams  ปีที่แล้ว

      if the quartz has heavy mineralization in yes and send some in to be assayed just in case it is micron Gold

      @@Askjeffwilliams all we really have here in the upper peninsula of Michigan is flour gold but one time we did find some good gold streak in a chunk not sure if that was a fluke other then that the Ropes gold mine was down around 900 feet and processed gold just north of me but anything I’ve taken out of the rivers is the flour gold

    Enjoyed the lesson, you crack me up with your glasses, reminds me of me dropping them everywhere. I am in NY (temp location) and by the Genesee river, no one here pans, likely because NY claims all NY gold. There is some bedrock I am off to look at now before the rain. ~Thanks :)

    Follow that black sand! Here in new york the gold can be few are far between. Concentrate on the amount of black sands and work those spots that have the majority of it👍⛏️
