The Malcolm Butler “hint” starts at 16:30.
Thank you 😂
Hero
huh? what part of 16:30? did you just guess?
💯
He didn't say anything about Butler
This is one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen I can’t wait to watch this documentary
Don’t watch. The documentary falsified a lot and left out actual facts such as Belichick was obeying the rulebook on sideline videotaping and Goodell refused to admit he was wrong. The Hernandez stuff is useless, the Butler stuff is useless, pretty much the entire enterprise is useless
So I heard too I don’t have Apple plus. Oh yeah Spygate was almost as stupid as Deflategate what was he videotaping? The signals instead of writing them down like they’re “suppose to” like it makes a difference other than it’s faster and maybe more convenient. Really pisses me off
Moss: "If Edelnut said that..."
Best interview on radio in awhile- let the man talk & listen. They both did that
I enjoyed this series overall, great behind the scenes footage and all the highs and lows. To me, the best one was "Spygate" because it shows the players rallying around their embattled coach. As painful as it is to relive that loss to the Giants, you have to celebrate that team as probably the best of all time. The montage of "Another One Bites The Dust" shows Belichick in the locker room almost in awe of the team he put together.
Thank you. A wonderful gift. I had no idea. Just subscribed to Apple TV. Thanks everyone.
He just said he grew up a dolphins fan then became a patriots fan.
So I’m a Bostonian and obviously a diehard fan…
But I’m a submariner who went to Groton in 05/06 for sub school.
I could watch my Red Sox and bruins on NESN, but new London/Groton also gets YES network and MSG Sports, so they get New York channels too
Great interview. Thank you.
What a great show and interview!
It definitely was crushing to watch the Patriots let Brady walk away.
He didn't hint on Malcolm.
Belichick benched a CB1 in a Super Bowl 52 and we lost it. Belichick's ego was more important than the team in spite of his rhetoric that he's always about the team. Belichick is a great coach but he is too old school and I'm glad he's gone. Brady was the glue that made the locker room work.
Good stuff. Haven't heard of Benedict before, but I'm definitely going to check out his book and the docuseries. I'm admittedly disappointed that we'll never know why Stubborn Bill refused to play Butler or explain himself
First two episodes = 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
mego is lovely
What a compelling interview. I'm about to binge watch a documentary.
Binge watch the first 2 episodes. You'll have to wait until Friday for #3 like the rest of us :)
Awesome insight thanks
Always love Malcolm Butler. Greatest defensive play in sports.
This! This is the interview that the morning crew cannot do. Great segment.
This is definitely one of the best sports (Patriots related) interviews I’ve ever watched. I haven’t watched the series yet but I can’t wait to see the whole series.
No he doesn’t answer the question
this is great
Great interview. Best EEI content of 2024 so far
For anyone new watching: he doesn't "hint" at the reason, at all. The reason itself isn't even mentioned.
standard clickbait
Jones will need that life preserver he’s on a sinking ship
How about a website with a paywall where the interviews cannbe watched un cut? I need 5 hours of un cut Moss.
Philly Eagles fan here. It is so apparent Belichick was so mad at Brady going to Kraft to stop Belichick from trading him and Kraft stopped said action, he threw the game to the Eagles by benching Butler at the last minute so Kraft could not stop the benching. Tom tried his best to score points, but the Eagles threw another curve starting Foles who outduelled Brady working on the defenders that replaced Butler. Also, the Pats win even without Butler if the injured Carson Wentz had started. Belichick cost The Eagles the game with Super Bowl 39 with Spygate. The Eagles hot payback. The c Pats and Belichick didn't know Foles would be so good thst day.
Couple things there eagles fan:
A. Brady had over 500 yards, 3 TDS, zero turnovers…. Foles didn’t “outduel” shit…..and wentz wouldn’t have either
B. Carson wentz sucks/sucked ass
C. Patriots had the better defense AND offense that game, Eagles won cuz they had a much better run game and were able to keep Pats offense on the bench, kill the clock, and got lucky on a silly trick play.
Look at the box score for my evidence…..
@@gregpellegrin6978A. Brandon Graham sacked Brady and forced a fumble that Derrick Barnett recovered. Fumbles are turnovers and that allowed the Eagles to eat up the clock and get a FG to have an 8 point lead.
B. Wentz had an MVP caliber season before his injury. Big reason why Eagles got home field advantage.
C. Giving up 41 points is worse than giving up 33, so the Eagles defense played better than the Patriots.
"Forget objectivity, I'm not into that as a writer."
If you classify yourself as a journalist, tout your book as being "the real inside story," and then make the book into a DOCUMENTARY, I'd assume objectivity would be a priority. Weird attitude.
Butler supposedly go in an argument and told off Belichicks son, so Bill benched him. Kraft said Bill benching Butler was personal, but the reason was not answered.
"Whatever you do, don't mention Nick Foles." - SMDH
" tom spikes the ball, stopping the clock and time as the ball bounces back up into toms hand he hands it ever so gently to the ref knowing he's done his part, he's sealed the spot for the eventual game winning kick knowing it was now his time and we are all living in his world for the next 20+ years " I should be a writer , maybe I can write the next book? From unstoppable to unemployed , the story of the bill Belichick demise haha
How do you go from being a Dolphins fan to a Patriots fan? Talk about frontrunning!
What did Trump say about black players?? Damn these fools reveal themselves
He called them son's of bitches for protesting the disproportionate killing of black people by police officers. Often for petty crimes and in the case of Philando Castille, for legally owning a gun and telling the police officer at a traffic stop he had a gun. The police officer killed him in a panic. In the aftermath, it was found that Castille was stopped over 60 times by the police while going to work at a local school. But sure, the NFL players were the ones in the wrong for protesting killings like that.
He said any player that kneels “fire that son of a bit**”.
Fire this sob’s. 99% of those kneeling were blk
Hints? What did I miss?
WOW
Why wouldn't you want to talk about deflate gate? The courts found in Brady's favor on the facts, it was only after the league pulled the " we're private and can do whatever we want" crap that let them punish him. I would want to talk about how unprofessional the refs and colts were and then acting like it shouldn't matter. The three stooges would have had far more discipline and control of the balls than the NFL did.
Amendola said best in the Documentary ! "We worked for Bill BUT WE PLAYED FOR TOM ! Its been PROVEN that BB wouldn't have won ANY SB without TOM BRADY !!!!
Nonsense with that last sentence.
That's true with any half decent QB. If the team doesn't like you or have respect for you, then forget it. They're not going to play for you.
lol Jesus…. He won the first 2 without “Brady” technically, when he was a game managing handoff specialist in the early 2000s before he transformed into the best passer in NFL history
Tom brady wouldn't be Tom brady without Bill
Imagine that a dolphins fan making a movie about patriots dynasty..you can't make this stuff up. Smh
Beichicks arrogance cost the Patriots the bowl against Philly. That’s the end of the conversation. Nick Foles? Gimme a break!
Spot on. Brady was pissed!
Excellent interview. This is the guy that the story needed.
Free Mego
People in and close to foxboro know what happened. Whether they decide to let it out is Macbz and Steve’s choice
How can you say Kraft hired a coach that nobody else thought was worth hiring when he had already coached multiple places and quit the jets job to take the patriots job?
As a Head Coach, it is true that no other teams would want to hire Belichick after the quick resignation from the Jets. Even if someone else did, the only way the Pats were able to work out that deal was in secret so any other offer would have been rejected. Why would a team offer if they didn't know he was available?
The Patriots discussions with Belichick were pretty slick even if they eventually had to pay the Jets back for it.
I’ll pass on the lefty crap 👍🏼
Impressive interview. I will read the book. Clearly this is a story worth telling and reading/watching. In my estimation the decision Belichick made on replacing Bledsoe with Brady is not emphasized enough. Where would all of these characters be today if this decision were reversed? Would there be a dynasty? Probably not. Every team in the NFL had taken a hard pass on Brady. Yet Bill has the stones to usurp the owner's wishes (putting his entire career on the line) and start Brady which begins the ascent of the one of the great dynasties in American sports history. It's more plausible that Brady is an insurance agent in Encino than considered the "GOAT". As a life-long Boston/ NE Patriots fan, "thank you Bill!"
There is a poll out there, Kraft got 0% to 1% of the credit for the dynasty.
100%
Brady was the Dynasty
Belichek threw the game on purpose because Kraft wouldn’t let him trade Brady.
Patriots would’ve beaten the Eagles 84-0 if Malcolm Butler was playing . Butler is obviously a first ballot hall of fame player . He covered like Deion Sanders and tackled like Ronnie Lott !
What did Trump say about AA players?
nothing. its TDS
Trump said to fire them for kneeling for the national anthem. Maybe the players should have gone on truth social to exercise their first amendment rights. “America First” right ?
Would love to hear. But Saw Adam's Jones face and I'm out.
Malcolm was photographed with Steve Belichick's wife at a party and common sense should tell you the rest! The End! 🤷🏽♂️
This dude...explaining how to pour syrup on shit and call it pancakes
The last 10 minutes about Kraft. I leaned right into my phone
Why not ask Malcolm?
So what happened with Butler?
There is no mystery as to why Malcolm Butler was benched for Super Bowl LII vs Philadelphia. Bill Belichick explained it as succinctly as possible: it gave the Patriots the best chance to win, in Belichick's estimation.
Starting the stronger and faster Eric Rowe (6' 1" 205 lbs) over the weaker and slower Malcolm Butler (5' 11" 190 lbs) was designed to keep Philly from spending the entire game running the ball down New England's collective throat and thus keeping Tom Brady on the bench. You know, kinda like how the Giants kept Jim Kelly on the bench in Super Bowl XXV. And at 38-33, the game plan had worked at giving the Patriots a chance to win. (at that point in the 4th quarter of the NFC Championship Game, what were Minnesota's chances?)
Tiny things determine championships. Prior to beating the Rams 13-3 in SB LIII, the Patriots have never ended a Super Bowl in regulation with more than a 4-point lead. Every win was close. Every decision magnified.
Coaches look at film and see what match-ups are favorable and which are bad for their team. Then they put together a game plan accordingly. The Butler match-up vs Philly was bad. He got burned for both of Tennessee's TDs in the Divisional Playoffs. He got pushed around like a school girl vs Jacksonville. So Belichick gave starting reps leading up to the Super Bowl to Rowe. Why? Because Belichick felt that gave New England the best chance to win.
Belichick has never been afraid to ignore convention in putting together a defensive game plan. Before SB XXV vs Buffalo, Belichick told his Giants defense that, in order to have a chance to win, Thurman Thomas had to rush for over 100 yards. This was so that Jim Kelly wouldn't shred the Giants through the air. So Belichick started TWO defensive linemen to entice Buffalo to run the ball. It worked.
In 2017, the Eagles had the ability to pound teams with the running game. They had the #3 rushing offense in the NFL. Defensively, New England was #22 in yards-per-pass-attempt. Not good. But they were #31 defensively in yards-per-carry. Belichick knew he had to entice Philly to throw instead of run, otherwise Tom Brady would've spent the entire game on the sidelines watching the Eagles run and run and run and run.
Hence, Belichick put Butler (190 lbs.) on the bench, moved nickel Eric Rowe (205 lbs.) outside, replacing Butler, and put SS Patrick Chung (215 lb.) at nickel. Belichick had to pick his poison, and he chose to force the Eagles to beat them with their back-up (Foles) QB throwing the ball. Did it work? Nope. But it almost worked. It certainly kept New England in the game. They were right in it until late. His scheme vs the Bills was a Scott Norwood FG away from failing too. A razor-thin difference in both cases.
But just as in SB XXV, Belichick went with the game plan that he thought gave his team the best chance to win. That's why Butler sat.
What you wrote makes ZERO sense.
Butler didn't not play the entire game, so obviously there was something more going on.
Btw, the Eagles scored 41 points in the game;
Which also make your comment utter nonsense.
Maybe he actually does think that going into the game, but by the 2nd half, all could see that wasn't working. They had over five hundred yards of offense and lost. Some defensive genius. Brady never forgave him for that game decision and supported butler on social media.
I’ll never forget that missed tackle by Rowe on a crucial 3rd down. The eagles went on to score on that drive
Football is not registered as a competition between 2 teams, it's registered as entertainment....Think WWE Wrestling with story lines. There's waaaaaaaay too much money bet to leave it up to chance.....and that's a FACT.
There wasn't an answer on Butler
This guy's obsession with a former president is wild.
Found out butler was dating his wife aka antonio brown
I’m getting the book
Had to talk politics l! Credibility lost!
💯
B.B lost that SB on purpose to f with Brady
"...Donald Trump and all of the horrible things he said about African American players."
Donald Trump never said one thing about "African American players." This guy just blew any credibility he could've hoped to earn.
Do everyone a favor Jeff Benedict: SUAKY

The author... Lol ..
I was a dolphin fan cause they were great...
Then I became a patriot fan when they became great...
So essentially he just likes teams that are the best..
Not really a big fan was he?
Malcom Butler is not Lawrence Taylor.....Even if Butler plays the Eagles win!
Watch Black Voters Vote for Donald Trump
Bills EGO
There was one interview with Belichek in which he answered the Malcolm question. In previous games with the eagles, Malcolm struggled and they showed video of that. So Bill played someone else who was closer in size to the receiver Malcolm would have had to cover. Could Malcolm have changed the game had he played? Maybe he could have or maybe they would have lost by a larger margin. We will never know......
It seems that everyone wants to villainize Bill for putting together the best team he could with what he had to work with, against that particular team.
Not much of a hint to why Butler didnt play😂
broadway production? what a momo
All the bad stuff Donald Trump said about African American players???
Such as?
Eh..I’m willing to bet it’s 2016. Remember the Seattle game?!
The press kept going after Bill and Tommy to ask about trump since they allegedly wore make America great again hats, and trump would campaign saying bill and Tommy gave him the stamp of approval.
@@nicholasvandal6948 Ok, but how does that translate to “saying bad things about AA players”?
@@choossuck7653 That’s what I’m wondering…. Benedict must watch a lot of MSNBC
@@jakeh2455 just another lefty propaganda bullcrap. I hated the way they handled 2020 in foxboro. Thats when belichick lost the team. He had to lie about black people still being victimized. They arent. Morons like mccourty think they are. Mccourty IQ is 9 🔥🔥💀
Almost NOTHING about Malcolm !!!!
Yeah, the fact that this guy never had any affiliation with the Patriots comes across very clearly. This gave certain actors within this play to tell their revisionist history. What a terrible docuseries. And "broadway?!" LOL, GTFO. Imagine skipping from 2001-2007 and wanting to be taken seriously.
Guy had a concept and found convenient facts. Admittedly, not very object. What a crock.
Is the guy kidding, Bob hires a guy"Nobody wanted" ! Give me a break. Gave compensation back to Jets for him! That author got in EGO HIMSELF

They host a popular sports radio show in Boston. She's not just a pretty face imo.

If there were any actual journalists around at the time digging for facts (someone like Will McDonough), we all might know what happened with Butler. But everyone's a commentator / windbag these days.
He lost me at his obvious political bias against Trump .
This guy seems like a genuine hater. Sounds like the krafts paid for this to trash Coach Bill
Read the book. It’s excellent.

Good old clickbait
He's a little bit of a vulture but seems well intentioned to some extent.
you gotta ask yourself if any coach but bill would have been better for that team> I say no

"Why did you wanna talk about the greatest team in the history of sports?" What a dumb question
Yankees > Patriots over course of history.

Is this CAP or worth a listen?
Self-promoting crap mostly.
Hernandez ghosted
Benedict getting emotional over this stuff is pathetic. It’s a game….. use your energy for real things lol
Nobody cares!
Has he heard what Joe Biden says about black people. Haha
Oh - nice play putting politics into a sports program. But for the record, Biden served as a VP for a black President, he chose a black woman VP, a black Sec Def, people of color all over his administration. The GOP on the other hand, is full of crazy moms hiding behind the cross while whispering hate. The MAGA embrace of extremist ideas like replacement theory and their toxic spewing about immigrants is antithetical to traditional American values. The red hatted cult's best defense for this bigotry is to insulate against shame, make vice a virtue, and accuse others of their sins. So there you are, making your worse self known on a sports program. Bravo - lean into it so there is no mistaking who you are.
How about an injection of truth? The truth is, Trump was sued for discriminating against blacks in NYC rentals, he called for the execution of the innocent black teenagers accused of assaulting a white woman. Trump's litany of bigotry is too long to chronicle in anything less than an encyclopedia. But sure, Biden is the one who is disrespectful to people of color.
blah blah blah .not a hint of Butler blah blah ..lol
