  • Ethnic Koreans living in Central Asia are known as Koryo Saram. They are the descendants of many who left Korea for the Russian Far East in the early 20th century in search of a better life. They were later forcibly deported to Central Asia by Joseph Stalin in the 1930s. CNA takes a look at the Koryo Saram taking the reverse route of their ancestors, by leaving Central Asia for South Korea.

Most Koryo Saram come from North Korea, not South Korea. In the 1930s, the Korean in the Far East reached nearly 200,000.

Tell me you know nothing about Korean history without saying you know nothing about Korean history.
Korean people have been living there in the B.C. times. It was part of Korean territory 2000 years ago for 700 years.
