My wife has a thai drivers license that has no expiration. From what i understand, up to a certain year ago (many many year ago, 😅) they use to issue lifetime licenses.

Joe - you are so right things change all the time. I had a Thai license (through an agent) that expired 6 years ago. Last year when I went to apply for a motorbike license as I was staying in Thailand for more than three months so I went to the DMV with my Australian car and motorbike license, my international license, my certificate of residency and a medical certificate. I had to complete the reflex and vision test, watch 5 hours of videos, do an online test and get at least 45/50 right (I got 49/50). On the positive side, I actually know what the road rules are now and how to read the traffic signs. Then had to come back the next day to do a riding test. In Sydney, NSW we have what is called a Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS) that limits first time riders to 400-650 CC bikes - based n power to weight ratio. And yes, riders must do a two day "Stay Upright" course as well.

Just renewed my drivers licence this past August and have to watch the video…you had the choice that you can download the app to watch at home or at the motor vehicle department…thanks for the video Joe, great information….have to get an international driver license within a couple of weeks because my Canadian license is expired and heading to Canada the beginning of May

I prefer Esim . My phone can take eight. In Europe I believe there is no more roaming. Most outfits that promote packages are very pricey

That’s a big thing when vacationing in Thailand. You need an international drivers license when driving there. Many foreigners get tickets because of that. Most areas in Thailand don’t have check points but in chiang mai it’s a big thing they have many check points.

Woo, Joe and Gift. I think that anyone who decides to drive away from their source country should get their licenses sorted if they wish to drive. When I visit CH, TH and VN, I don't drive at those places. I do have an international driver's license, sometimes had to fire some drivers due to endangering us and the public. Hi Joe and Gift. I still needed an international driver cert from Australia to drive in Thailand when we visited late last year. But it was very easy and cheap to get. All online. But that was for car license.

Car and bike, its the same.. NRMA give us the international permit to drive all over the world, 1 year expiry date, it has what ever classes you can drive or ride in Oz..

Don't hold your breath. They have been talking about the big bike license for about ten years now. Not coming any time soon.
FYI, it doesn't matter what country driver's licence (DL) you have, you should get an International Driver's licence (IDL) to drive legally in Thailand. The rental company and even the police may accept your own country's DL on a short term basis, but it may be a problem if you don't have an IDL and have an accident and Insurance companies become involved.
Could be. I’m only sharing what we been told and this info can also be found on Google. In saying this, in Thailand things change depending on the person you are dealing with and their interpretation of the rules 😊
If coming abroad to Thailand ie: EU, US etc Thai police will not accept national driver license ! International is definitely required. ASEAN countries allowed to drive on National drivers license

If you are coming for just holidays you would need an International Drivers Permit in order to drive in Thailand. If you are on a retirement, marriage, work, education visa etc then you can get a Thai driver’s license. If on holidays there is a possibility that you might be asked what hotel you are staying at, usually it’s only for your first accommodation if you will be staying at several.
Joe, did Gift apply for a Schengen visa?
Yes she did and it was approved. We are currently in Italy 🇮🇹
The big bike license law has been on the books a few years, but not implemented, and a reason why I'm buying (was due in March for me) the 398 CC Triumph Speed 400 and not bigger. My wife and I went to Europe for 3 weeks on only 10KG carry-on our first trip there, just 10 years ago, and we're not young...like most backpackers. I bought us .4 KG packable backpacks to maximize contents...lol.We're off to 3 weeks in Germany in 10 days ourselves on Thai Air and only trains within Germany so luggage (23kg each) not a problem this trip. We both loved Munich and Berlin. Outside of Germany, my wife loved Vienna but I loved Prague then Budapest. An O2 or Vodaphone SIM works everywhere in the EU with good plans. On our 1st trip to Europe, we used 3 Company Sims out of the UK because of their "Feel At Home" coverage. Gift's world is about to expand, it should open her eyes and mind to western cultures much more. Have fun! (Dang auto correct!)

All cell services offer travel plans. AIS has international sims.
We tried those sims and other plans but wasn’t satisfied. We will give the eSIM a shot this time and see how it works.

We looked at eSIM for when recently In Thailand and was too expensive in comparison to what the Thai networks offered, if any of your flights in Europe as Wizz Air/Ryanair or EasyJet they are very strict with carry on luggage so take time to look at the Airline carry on restrictions, we travel around Europe all year round

We love Prague it's beautiful and very cheap to get around using the tram and public transport so make the most of that.
Unfortunately Prague like most big European City's have gangs of Romanian PickPockets so be on your guard, and avoid the small ATMs in stores around Prague

I drove here for 3 years without a license, drove through 100+ checkpoints. Nobody here cared. Not really sure why I got a license to be honest
I think that you did the right thing by getting your Thai drivers license. It only takes one serious accident and without a driver’s license, your world could be turned upside down.

Hi Joe you got that wrong about having a international licence you definitely need one we from Australia been going for many years we get stopped all the time but we carry our international licence with us so we don't get fined you definitely need one 100 per cent

If you are living in a house with a Thai they might be able to get you a yellow book, but I’m not certain.

Australians need International Driver Permit to drive in Thailand. 🙏
Just sharing what I read when I googled the question (see below). I agree, best to obtain an IDP if on holiday and planning to drive in Thailand. If living in Thailand and you plan on driving, a Thai drivers license is required.
“Which country driving Licence is valid in Thailand?
Licences are only valid if they have been issued by a country that has a treaty with the Thai Government allowing the mutual acceptance of driving licences. These countries include the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand”.

From Embassy website. : 'If you do not hold a Thai driver's licence and wish to drive in Thailand, you need an international driving permit (IDP), as well as your Australian licence. If you drive without the correct licence, you could be arrested or jailed.
An IDP is a document sanctioned by the United Nations. It lets you drive or ride a motorbike when travelling overseas. An IDP:
works in more than 150 countries
is printed in nine languages, so that local authorities can read it
is valid for 12 months from the date they're issued
includes photo ID and key personal information about the driver.
Many rental companies won’t let you hire a vehicle without a valid IDP. Some insurance policies won’t cover you for an accident if you're driving a vehicle without an authorised licence.
We strongly recommend you get a valid IDP before leaving Australia. You can apply for an IDP online (Australian Automobile Association, AAA). Or, through your state or territory motoring club.
