RIP Yoshitaka Murayama the man behind this and Classic Jrpgs. such a same he didn't get to reap the benfits of his own project.
Thats so sad that he cant see the release of his own game anymore.
I only hope the journey to bring it to life, and the knowledge that it "made it" brought him some measure of contentment and pride. Reviving a classic with any degree of respect these days is damn near necromancy.
Can't wait for the 100% review. I've been waiting for more jrpg content on this channel.
Anyone who 100%'s a jrpg is a beast in my book. That is no small feat.
Warning to all. Switch version has a lot of issues though still playable. 6-8 second long load times into every battle and also rarely hits 30fps accept inside small indoor areas. Overworld hovers around 20fps. Playable but beware! Even menus are quite choppy. I have it on switch as a backer and I am gonna double dip and buy either ps5 or steam version instead and play it there. Also apparently ps4 version is not all that much better. If you can get it on steam or ps5 or series x then that would be my advice.
Let's just wait until a couple of patches as usual nowadays.
Very expected for a 7yo system.
This is literally every problem with any game trying to be ported for the switch that wasn't created for the switch.
Thanks for the heads-up!
@@franciscobutte I mean, this isn't Hogwarts Legacy or something. No reason the Switch and PS4 shouldn't be able to run a game like this flawlessly.
I've loved the Suikoden series back in my younger days, especially the second one. This truly looks like the spiritual successor i was hoping for, so unless there's some major unforseen issue with it this is a must buy for me.
yeah that's the major issue i've seen from other reviews. it is a true spiritual successor, of games from 20 years ago, too true in fact.
@@Lutasiren I'm not sure i'd consider that a bad thing. There's been many questionable developments in the last 20 years.
@@Llortnerof by that logic ppl would just go to play all those 20 year old games. from the review ive seen, there are way too many 20 year old designs put into the game, like very limited bag space, cant recover ur hp in dungeons and things like that. there is a reason why divinity os just give you a bedroll.
@@LutasirenThat’s not a bad thing. So many of us JRPG fans have been wanting exactly that. A lot of the “issues” I’ve seen are from younger players or those outright unfamiliar with traditional JRPG’s. Things being complained about, are actively drawing me to the game.
More often than not, I find myself lamenting how weak and sterile modern games come across. Not only is it game design that’s gotten weaker with technological advancement and development, squeezing the fun out of the games in many respects, it’s the attention span of the player having been whittled down to nothing. People are so entitled, they think a vintage rpg should be exactly for them and their sensibilities, which is ridiculous.
So, yes, this isn’t for everyone and thank god it exists. I hope more games like this come out, because not every game should be for everyone.
@@Kerunou dude both of us dont know the game and probably gonna buy it anyway. im here listing some legit criticism to set you expectation straight, and you are up there coping super hard. chill dude
Nice seeing you doing JRPGs now!
I do one every once in a while
@@MortismalGaming It is good to see amigo
Backed this one years ago on its kickstarter. Excited to finally see it getting released
Huge fan of Suikoden, I really hope more games have more features like this especially the characters.
As someone who completed first Suikoden all those years ago, I'm really looking forward to this game.
PS I have watched some other previews of this game and it's good to hear someone cared enough to pronounce the title correctly.
Its crazy that this man doesnt have more subs. Literally leagues beyond other game reviewers.
Take my sub sir
Awesome to see you cover this, appreciate it because I trust your reviews far beyond anything else out there.
Cant wait to get my hands on this, childhood nostalgia is gonna be all over!🥳 Good show sir
Looking forward to the full review on this one. Love the art, love the concept, can't wait to see what Mort thinks of the full gameplay.
Definitely interested on seeing how the full game is. Thanks for the work you do.
Thanks for the video. I'll with others on here and say that your JRPG coverage is always welcomed. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
Looking forward to your review. Thanks!
God I love the art style in this game so much. Reminds me of the golden days of Ragnarok Online.
To this day, Suikoden 1+2 are among my favorite RPGs of all time, i have been so looking forward to this game, so excited for tomorrow, this preview looks promising!
I've been a fan of the Suikoden games since the PlayStation days. Really hoping this one scratches that itch.
Glad you're looking into this one.
Thanks for the video. I loved the original suikoden 1 and 2 on the PS1, will be waiting for your 100% review before I decide if i want it.
The only TH-camr I’ve seen this far that actually pronounces the name correctly. Well done
I've had this wish listed for a couple years and I can't wait to play it. Nothing like playing a new (J)RPG blind and without any good/bad impressions - just experiencing it for what it is. Hope it delivers!
I was an early backer so got my copy a few days ago. So far I like it alot, it really feels like a good old jrpg. It feels good to play, it's stable, there are some gems in the soundtrack and overall you have quite alot to do. Only department that feels somewhat lacking is the writing I guess, there was one scene in particular, very dramatic moment in the story, epic music starts blasting, you get the idea alright here we go! Aaand they muffle the music behind voice acted lines that completely ruin the mood. I guess what I'm trying to say is that they could have used show don't tell in a more usefull manner. But don't get me wrong I like the game a lot and am glad it's finally here. Can't wait to see how it pan's out. Also the sequel has been confirmed even pre-launch. So that's a good sign.
*note I play the ps5 version, that works stable*
I am so ready for this game.
Maybe you should tone down your hype a little. Else there will be disappointment. Just friendly advice. The game is ok. Not more.
@@yaldabaoth2 What? Let them enjoy the game how they want. Why don't you tone down your asshole hype?
Been waiting for an auto feature like this for a long time. I would find it very satisfying to do all the prep/pre work and watch it unfold. Would love if they had the feature for the larger battles as well.
Coincidentally, this weekend I just started Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising and it's a very fun game that I like quite a lot so far. Looking forwards to trying this one out... in a few years probably hahah
I played (and finished) Rising in anticipation of getting right into Hundred Heroes upon release. However I'm deep into Unicorn Overlord at the moment, plus the HH reviews I've seen have been...tepid. Alas, now planning to wait for a sale.
best review of this game by far!!
Worth it for the pronunciations alone. I didn't get into the original games back in the day but my older self is looking forward to this. It's on game pass so I get to play it for free
you had me at "some of the dialog is a bit... off"
dodgy translation? it really IS a Suikoden game 🤩
well it's not dodgy in a good way, certainly not entertaining or campy or tongue-in-cheek. let's just say the head translator has an agenda in mind and it completely changes the characterization from jp
@@lamhamzzzzzz I really do hope the rot that's claimed your thought process clears up so one day you can stop shadowboxing with demons that aren't there. You deserve a happier life, not one spent fighting a foe who only exists in your own mind.
@@TheCallOfTheValkyrie Except, those are not imaginary demons, its been very well documented in regards to localization
of Japanese media, its getting pretty bad. And a lot of it does not seem to be mistakes, but rather intentionally changing the author/writers original intended meaning.
Its more like questionable translations. In jp voice you hear aniki but the text show cousins. Now, we're not native JP speakers but im sure its supposed to be boss or brother. Thats the translation issues ive been seing and im in the mid game closing in the end game
@@TheCallOfTheValkyrie I wish what you said is true but too bad it's not, they do exist
Quality coverage Mortim. Ty his is on my wishlist so really glad you covered it. Looking forward to 100%.
This is bitter sweet for me as a Kickstarter who backed and was part of the early access debacle. Loving the predecessor from Konami this has been a long time coming. The series creator just passed a few weeks back before releasing sadly.
If the game is anything like its predecessor the large scale battles will play a larger role.
I backed this one on Kickstarter, and I'm roughly 12 hours in, and I'm absolutely addicted! I'm looking forward to the 100% review for this one.
Massive Suikoden fan, been following this since initial Kickstarter. I do have to admit, besides gorgeous presentation, it feels dated in parts. I suppose we take great QoL for granted these days, I don’t even mind the random encounters and auto battle tendency. Still really happy that we get to see games like this made.
I love the visuals on this one! Thats how I wish a lot of games looked back in the 00s. Unlike something like Octopath that tries to look retro, but I really dislike the aesthetic. I hope the game lives up to the expectations
I never got to play the original Suikoden games, so this is going to be a new experience. Looking forward to it!
О, даже не знал о ней, спасибо! I didn't now about that game, thk! ❤
Hey. Thanks a lot for this fast fist impressions. Suikoden 2 is there among my all time fav JRPG so I've been waiting a long time for this one.
One thing that might be helpful to discuss in the full review is whether the previous game has any impact on this one (Rising) of if there is an import save mechanic like Suikoden was using between 1 and 2.
Inconsistent lines are most definitely a localization thing. People have been complaining about this with JRPGs for a while now. It's a shame that developers don't employ their own localization staff to make sure things are translated as they should be.
Finally a spiritual successor of Suikoden! Can’t wait to get my hands on it!
Love the JRPG content!
Cant wait to get my bloody hands on this 😍
I've been waiting for this one.
I got into the Suikoden series back in the early 2000's with Suikoden 3. I loved, and played the hell out of that game. I may check this one out. Been a long time since I played a jrpg.
I've had my eye on this one. I'll definitely give it a download on game pass.
Suikoden were pretty fun games, so I might try this one out
Sounds interesting. But I will definitely wait for your full review before I decide to buy it or not.
I want to get into playing more Switch games so I'm excited to check this game out
Thank's Mor!
Thank you for the review!
you spoke of things most reviewers missed, and some of them even spoiled the story without warning.
Btw, if anyone is dealing with very very low encounters or none at all:
its a bug, encounters are tired to your FPS, so set yours to 60 fps using amd adrenaline or Nvidia control panel and you're good to go.
Waited however many yrs for this.. already pre ordered.
Comes out on gamepass on release date, for the people interested.
I didn't have this on my radar at all, but I loved the idea of the old suikoden games (but didnt have a chance to ever play them). interested!
Man the castle building and all the side content and minigames were such a impressive and wonderful thing for the time when Suikoden and it sequel were released, I really hope this one will elevate it once again for the modern age. But even if not the only thing I really hope is for the game to be at least somewhat challenging because the biggest flaw of Suikoden was that it was probably one of the easiest games I have ever played, there was only one boss in second game, Luca that was a challenge and that is only because you need to fight him with three different teams and if you didn't trained other characters than your favorites, then tough luck he will obliterate you.
I'll be grabbing my copy tomorrow evening. Can't wait!
I heard the localisation was of subpar quality. Any input from someone that has played it ?
Never heard of this one but I like what I see. No healing in combat on is a fair idea.
Didn't see this before but looks interesting, one of my favorite games of all time is the earlier fire emblem series and the art kind of reminds me of that
Im glad that some old school jrpg game design is coming back.... also it seems to have a overworld that is explorable and not an effin travel to node style of map... ita been a while.
Oh fuck yeah I didn't even know that this was coming out. I loved the suiddeion games so much.
huge suikoden fan-
but I'm hearing localization is an issue.
I'll need to either wait or bite tge bullet and warn others what to expect.
Thank you Yoshitaka Murayama. RIP.
Thanks Morti.
I’d be interested in your feedback on some of the QoL, I’ve seen other people with review copies mention that there are several areas where they were loyal to early JRPGs to the possible detriment of the player’s experience, such as no saving or party changing on the overworld map.
I loved Suikoden, I have high hopes for this.
I definitely will be interested to see the hundy p review. This sounds very much like my cup of tea, although the mediocre reviews I've seen so far seem to indicate that they didn't quite nail it.
I never pre-order games or do early access titles anymore. I pre-purchased this one already. It is probably my most hyped game in a decade. Glad to hear the first 6 hours seem to be pretty good thus far.
Warning to pc players, theres a bug where the higher your fps goes beyond 60, the less frequently you get random encounters. The work around is to limit the game to 60 fps at the driver level. Under 60 I dont think it matters, thats my understanding anyway.
Excellent.
Wait wait wait, so you are telling me there is a Nowa AND a Mio in this game? Xenoblade Chronicles 3 enters the chat.
No no that was Noah :D
Finally someone who can pronounce Suikoden correctly :)
Mortismal - if you have never played Suikoden 1 & 2 you must play them when the remasters finally come out
To the people who have a problem with the encounter rate it is tied to your frame rate higher frame rate less encounters lower frame rate more encounters
Great shout dude. I was like "why am I not getting to fight anything"
Oh damn, I didn't realize this was finally coming out. Hope I get a chance to play it one day.
Good morning, Mort. I hope you're doing well.
So much hype
Here's a no spoiler rundown on how to recruit the one character who's potentially glitchable: Recruit Riufan in Hishahn (requires Nowa be level 32) and put Riufan in your party before ever entering Daphan and talking to Lam. If you talk to Lam without Riufan, she can bug out to be unrecruitable.
You have to pass Hishahn to even get to Daphan, so it's not something you have to stress over much.
I wish you made a video about really good jrpg called WitchSpring R. More people should know about this hidden gem.
Hey! I supported that! lol
played prequel interested in story but jrpg's can be quite hefty so will wait for 100 % before buying
Sounds like suikoden. Thumbs up.
Already have it pre-installed just waiting for it to unlock.
Your pace and video quality are stunning. I hope you are getting good life time as well. This title seems exciting and your take on the 100% will be interesting to see
I noticed that enemies don't have life bars in battle, is that right? How do you know if you will kill the enemy or not? This is important to know if I should launch any more attacks there or plan better!
You can see their names go from white-yellow-red as they drop in health
Oh I didn't realize it during I played it in early morning 😅
@@robertvallejo5819 It was the first thing I noticed about not having a health bar! I was lost not knowing whether to use more attacks on the same enemy, not knowing if I would defeat him or not 😂
good game like old days
This looks really cool but I'm hitting up star ocean 2 for my next rpg fix. This is going on the list though.
If it's anything like suikoden one of the collectables your gonna be collecting is party members, and at least some of them will be missable. And unless you have a guide in front of you it's unlikely you will find all them on your first playthrough. Guess we will see in the next vid how it turns out.
Word of warning. There's currently a bug that prevents you from collecting all the heroes. If you're curious, I just read it in a tweet by Jason Schreier
"[...] it's a messy, disjointed game, with tedious activities and a disappointing story [...] The three protagonists have no personality and the grand political plot turns out to be tropey anime nonsense".
I'm sure some will love it none the less.
"- One character becomes unrecruitable if you talk to her at the wrong time"
This might be the relevant one for Mort considering he probably plans to 100% it
Are the souls and elden ring quest you can't complete depending on when you talk to someone bugs as well for Jason Schreider?
Mortismal please tell me how it runs on steam deck! I need to know!
I have only one question: are there any dedicated spellcasters among the protagonists?
Yes, quite some.
@@Marty-V looks like it's a buy for me, then.
yes
since you do JRPGs too, maybe you look into persona series? would love to listen to your opinion on it
It is finally out? Been kickstarter forever
Don’t worry Mortym. They’ve been mashing all these different battle systems together in a coherent way since 1996 lol
Random question mortis i know ypu dont particularly favor jrpgs but i wonder if you have ever played final fantasy 10 or 12? Just a random curiosity lol and if you dod did you enjoy them?
Yeah I have, 12 is one of my favorite games
You should cover the Persona series now that 3/4/5 are on Steam!
hello, which platform are you playing this on?
This is what Star Ocean should have made with their games after SO2.
The 3D characters after that are terrible.
The art style of this game are awesome!
❤
Please tell me they kept the Taiho minigame 😅
Looks like a decently fun game, just wish more games these days would do the slightest bit of character customization.
I'd love to play it, but I don't know if I can get over the fact that the main character looks like an absolute goober, lol
I’m on the opposite side. No game should allow for character customization in any respect.
