    You can use a transparency, if you print a monochrome positive image onto acetate.
    These prints will fade with time, which is an aspect of the anthotype process that I admire. However, you can use UV resistant spray and/or frame them behind UV protective glass to slow down their fading.

    Great video! Probably a silly question but should the paper be fully dry before putting the plant on it with the glass on top?

    • @MelanieKing
      @MelanieKing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is right - best to wait until the paper is fully dry.

    You can fix the image whit borax or if you want something more household you can use sodium bicarbonate but in any case the image will turn brown, i have made anthotypes with curcuma (tumernic)

    Hey! Are those print stable? Is there any way to fix/preserve the image so it doesn’t get ruined by the sunlight after its done?

    • @MelanieKing
      @MelanieKing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes you can use a UV spray to stop them being sensitive to light . Or you can frame them behind UV glass. I like them because they are light sensitive and ephemeral so just leave them in a dark place and/ or let them fade

      I can imagine that it is quite tasty.. if you like the two ingredients that is. We had some of the left over wild spinach in a stir fry and it was quite nice.

    I know that it spoils the fun - and makes it harder to justify vodka - but you can buy isopropyl alcohol from any hardware shop. MUCH more affordable
    You can also float the paper on top of the emulsion if you have enough volume

    • @MelanieKing
      @MelanieKing  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah but I didn’t have that in the house. I had alcohol 😂 more affordable if I already had it.

    The liquid that you extract from plants for anthotypes - how long does it last? Can you put it in the fridge and save it for later or do you have to brush it onto your paper right away?

    • @MelanieKing
      @MelanieKing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You should put it on the paper as it keeps for quite a long time that way (my spinach paper has lasted for up to a year). Putting the mixture in the fridge will stop the mixture from working, in my experience.

    So good! Actually I've been interested in Anthotypes for a long while but haven't been brave enough because the guides I found left me just second guessing myself. I'll give it a shot this summer, thanks! :) btw, I'm dabbling with cyanotypes again and been trying to make something with a drawing on ordinary printer/copy machine paper. I got decent results from receipt photos and a plant but the one with the drawing ended up almost totally blank after washing. how much more time do you reckon it needs?

    Hi. Is your contact print frame made of glass, or plexiglass? Does it have to be a certain type and thickness?

    • @MelanieKing
      @MelanieKing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just a standard glass picture frame, and there isn't a specific thickness. Glass is best as it is heavy and therefore squashes down any transparency or plant you put into it. :)
