    Computers like this in third world countries are luxuries. This one is worth about half month of wages, so for two non gaming adults should be more than enough. And the fact that I can always upgrade the ram and ssd will give me three or four years solid performance. I wish you reviewed more under 1000 bucks computers. Great review!

    I personally have a weak Celeron N3450 based Acer 14" laptop with 4gb of ram and 32gb emmc storage and a 1080p screen that I got for $200. Works perfectly for basic tasks like video watching and light office work like typing and web browsing. So I would NOT call the pentium line weak since its actually better then my Celeron. I am betting its an Apollo Lake or Gemini Lake which is where things start getting decent compared to the last gen Braswell.

    • @mycookingiswet127

    • @Montisaquadeis
      @Montisaquadeis 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it sort of makes sense to me since this N3450 laptop was the cheapest N3450 one out there the rest are around $300 so another $100 for a Pentium makes sense to me. Have you actually looked at other Pentium laptops running Apollo Lake? For example the N4200 is not cheap.

    • @faustwatches

      is it good?

    • @jayrap94
      @jayrap94 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@faustwatches Performance is decent ad as expected. Laptop isn't very light but it's not an ultrabook. Build quality very solid despite being plastic. battery is a bit... meh. I can get 5 hours of typical use with online video watching - extend to 7 hours in low power mode. Screen is good enough but I agree, not very bright. Speakers are loud enough when the Waves MaxxAudio settings are used (default) but if you disable it, the speakers are fairly quiet. The audio quality is ok but not the best. Good enough for me though. My model was fitted with 2x4GB DDR4 so I get dual channel which the UHD 620 benefits from, although don't expect much from it. Ok for The Sims 4. Hinge quality is good and solid, although when you open and close the lid, the display is sensitive to the pressure (like when you push an LCD screen).
      I got it for £385 rather than £600+ so not bad. Should last until I get the new Dell XPS 13 2 in 1 with Ice Lake U.

    • @jayrap94
      @jayrap94 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@faustwatches well, from reviews I have seen this laptop's screen isn't ideal for photo editors due to not being as accurate as other screens in terms of colour reproduction (doesn't affect me as I don't do creative work) but if you're on a tight budget then it might be ok for you (if you are not a professional yet). As for gaming, I would avoid it if gaming performance is important to you unless you just play lightweight titles. I have my gaming PC for that.

    I have this model with the 8th gen i5 CPU. Be aware there is no auto rotate function on the display in tablet mode... You have to enter the display settings every time you want to rotate the screen. Hugely frustrating as other Dell 2-in1s have this option.

    what is about budget laptops? what are the best laptops to buy in 2018 in a mid-range price $500-$700 ?

  • @Raje617
    @Raje617 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a very close model to mine. I bought the non convertible (15") since I didn't have the need. Internals was a 128SSD plus 16gHD with 1tb, guess you can say a hybrid. Added a DVD/RW for my light photography since I use cd's on occasion for burning for some that want this. I'm not a gamer so heavy graphics/speeds is not an issue. Basically just wanted an all around laptop within reason. Paid $1300 for all upgrades with the latest processor etc. In everyone's honest opinion do you think this will suffice for awhile. I am not one to purchase pc's often and don't want buyers remorse later. I've asked a few friends and of course they said I should've went with the Alien ware but my finances couldn't go that route and Dell felt this was a decent match. My last pc ran ancient XP and I ran strictly off of tablets the past few years with the exception of photography to suite my needs or even my Note phones. Just need opinions so if I did wrong I can sell this before it outdates and move into maybe a little better pc. Hope that's not the case though. My only buyers remorse now is the pen, I'm ok with the non active pen but was sold an active pen and the fact I didn't push myself for a better graphics card than the 620 for the future. That's it. Opinions needed. Thank you all since I'm not computer savvy! 😊

  • @InspektorKuschanski
    @InspektorKuschanski 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I told a friend to get it because I'm really happy with my XPS (he couldn't afford that though). In general it's a nice laptop for the price, but we had to send it back because of the noise it makes. Actually, we replaced it because we thought the fan may be damaged, but the new one was exactly the same. I'm talking about the euro version. The fan makes this really weird noise which sounds not like wind but more like a mini lawnmower inside the chassis. I was surprised about that too, as my XPS doesn't use the fan at all most of the times.... I guess that's what makes the price difference...?!

    Thank you for the review! Are there any viewing angle issues with the screen? Previous gen models are said to have strange 'grainyness' and color distorition when viewing at an angle, which could be a real letdown with an IPS screen. Or only it's the lesser color accuracy and sub-par brightness? Thanks!

    I got my Acer Spin 5 with the same CPU and memory for the same price. But it has a nice keyboard, metal on the lid, touch WITH pen on the nice IPS screen. I think I read a review that said that it lacked in brightness as well but I haven't noticed it yet. Notebookcheck measuerd 275 cd/m2. In my mind it's a better looking machine as well. Only hickup I had was the fingerprint reader who stopped working with an Win10 update. Scanned for a new driver in the device manager and it was up and running again though.

    I've been toggling back and forth between the 5379 and 7378 videos looking at the board closely and from what I can tell the motherboards are identical except for either a SATA or M.2 connector. The 5379 has the pads for the M.2 connector so likely in true Dell fashion they produce a single motherboard design that spans many models and series and then populate some different parts and enable or disable their visibility in the bios. I can't tell though on the 5379 if the SATA plug is on the end of a cable or not from the pictures.

      mrAngles is there any way to repair it without buying a charger ?

      On older pcs that had batteries on the outside if the case. It actually often worked as far as the chargers had the correct voltage, , removing the battery and fixing it back solved this issue... But this is a relatively Modern pc with an inbuilt battery. It's still worth giving a try if your up for it . You'd have to loose the system(just a Lil 😉) try removing the battery and putting back. No guarantee this will help on modern systems with inbuilt batteries though. I fix laptops, and also sell, but I've never tried it on an inbuilt battery pc. I'm actually presently with this exact pc and I just took a look at it, losing the back is quite easy with a proper screw driver set and a credit card. There are tons of videos on this pc online to assist you though if you do decide to open the back. Tell me how that goes.

    Listen people; these reviews are always worst than what they seem. Nowadays with cell phone tech increasing and smart tvs, this laptop is excellent for home usage, especially the 5379 model. Battery life is a technicality if its always plugged in right? And screen brightness aswell

    1. "Two RAM slots pretty nice in this price range" That's not how I see it. Dell can afford to put two RAM slots in here precisely because Inspiron 5000 isn't competing to be a thin premium ultrabook. I'd say the more expensive an ultrabook, the less likely it has RAM slots.
    2. I had every issue with Wi-Fi on this laptop and I think it has to do with the Qualcomm NIC. In my 802.11ac home network it'll be stuck at 802.11n. I have tested at least 10 other 802.11ac devices, various brands and models, with the same router. None had this issue. Moreover, Wi-Fi connection is unstable. e.g. a TH-cam video will have to pause mid-way because network connection is not working.
    3. My unit (i7) also experience significant thermal throttling as also reported by many other users. A BIOS update improved cooling somewhat. But it is still very easy to see CPU temp nearing 100C.

He said thet SSD is M.2 (Part number of the product: 5379I7258T) ... PLEASE, NEED SOME HELP, THANKS!!!
