    We use to use real small monofilament fishing line an pebbles in a can, whether it was a C- rat can, beer can, soda can. Believe me you will hear that rattle, even in a dead sleep, this was taught to me by veitnam vets an it works. I like those gizmos, damn sure loud enough to wake me up tho. Thx for the vid Bro

    Big fan of the FithOps alarm - super compact, and so are the primers. The sound is definitely loud enough to get attention and wake you from sleep.

    Those trip wire early warning devices work great!
    Green braided nylon fishing line works great too and it's less expensive.
    Treble hooks hung about 12 inches above the ground is also very affective, you should hear the screams early enough to escape!
    - just sayin 😏

    Very cool to see you out and about with these traps. I was inspired by one of your 2020 bug-out camping videos where you show them off, and got a pair of these to use as a practical. Haven't been able to find primers for them, so have set them up indoors as a practical joke. Instead of kevlar line, I use dark green fishing line by SpiderWire. I imagine that it's cheaper and lighter than Kevlar. However, it's still plenty strong to pull the pin from the striker.
    Even in indoor environments I catch myself with these. I set it, go do something else for a few minutes, then come back and walk right through my trap. The line is so thin and it doesn't shine, which makes it completely disappear. On a forest floor backdrop there would be no chance of seeing it. My recommendation to your viewers is to use green fishing line instead of kevlar.

      Can further confirm that a braided fishing line, such as SpiderWire, works very well. Now, if I could just attach it to a suitcase nuke.

      I've also done the same. Spider wire 30 lb. Test

      @@Knuckleheaded76 I think they make it even stronger, and it works great as sewing thread for repairs.

    I shoot a modern muzzleloader that uses primers like these. The problem with them is they can go bad from any moisture in the air. I've had several over the years that didn't go off. Because of this, the primers are something you will have to replace in a survival kit every so often. Vacuum sealing may work although I don't know for sure since I've never tried it.

    Thanks for the video! One question, what about wildlife/deer setting it off and alerting your enemy to your presence. Or false alarms? With respect 👍

    I love these but I do think they're priced a lil steep. Surplus grenade tops work & are quite a bit cheaper. A lil clunkier tho. Like with everything there are compromises.

    These are great for training to set up jungle walks. Make your situational awareness better make s you look down more to place your feet so not to make noise. Make your own trails in a hostile environment to get away from booby traps .

    Too pricey and what if you're in a location with several possible routes in. Do you use four (or more) EWDs and then when one (or more) goes off, how do you know which way to go? And you certainly won't have time to recover the EWDs if you only have a minute and a half to pack and run! One of these going off will tell any one else that you're close because you won't know which direction they're coming from so you'll have to camp/sleep in a relatively close area, and of course, you have to be able to hear it (them). You can make something similar to this with mouse traps (much cheaper) with different material like bubble wrap as the noise maker (easy to carry replacement bubbles and a little clear tape); which won't be affected by weather. An additional thought is to set up your EWD on the opposite side from your sleep site with a secondary one about 50 foot further away that is slaved to the first one with a slacked line to give a slight delay. This way if someone trips your EWD, they will hear he secondary and assume that you're in that direction giving you additional time to get away. If they happen to travel between the two EWDs then one going off on both sides will confuse them as to your location and may make them think they're surrounded, good phycological warfare! If the 5th Ops (or similar) EWD seems like your best solution, then tying a fishing swivel to the edge of the line and attaching an elastic cord (with a snap-on or velcro style fastener) to the EWD so attaching (and detaching) to a tree will be easier and faster! Remember, WAR is about deception!

      Everything has pros and cons also every potential signaling device could alert your location to potential threats. I use them due to weight savings and ease of use. I accepted the fact that I may leave them behind during a situation. I'll pay $50 for something that could save my life. My specific bag is designed as a short time kit 10-12 days. That's dubble the time it would take me to get to my bug out community or a cache location to Resupply.

    Problem is once the primer fires and you leave the area you now have no security system for the next night. I wonder if there is a craftable alternative using primers.

    • @PreparedAirman
      @PreparedAirman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just bring 100 primers with me. Using 4 alarms per night and assuming all four are set off every night I would have enough for 25 nights.

    • @shadowscout9872
      @shadowscout9872 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would have enough primers but are you going to stick around and remove them after "the bad guy" sets one off ?

    • @PreparedAirman
      @PreparedAirman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh I see what you mean. Yes it's a possibility you would initially leave them or maybe permanently. You could always come back if you felt the need to. I would say it would be a decision made based on the situation.

      Their is a safety pin in the center, so you don't have a negligent discharge while arming or un-arming.
