Old USAF Guy here. Good video and good presentation!
What would I do differently? I’d probably try a Dakota fire hole near a tree, to hide both the fire signature and the smoke.
Someone else suggested consuming only half the steak and potato. They could be combined in the cup to make a stew so you don’t lose the valuable fats.
Good idea to sleep away from the cooking area. Any leftover food should be hoisted over a tree limb. Wash up afterwards.
Save the can the green beans came in. Lots of uses.
    Keep up the good work.

Good point about keeping the fats of the steak by cooking it in the cup, I hadn't thought of that.

How are the fats lost when cooking the stake?

This is a select scenario out of a multitude of possibilities. The intent is getting you to think outside the box of the common mindset of "Bug out situation" Ask yourself what would you do in this situation. Their is no right or wrong answers.

Opening (landscape, guitar music, wide shot) made me think I was watching a spaghetti western. The Prepared Airman with No Name in . . . . . A Canteen Cup Full of Dollars! You need a poncho and a Toscano cigar.

I live in Poland, and what scares me the most are dogs. I know from experience that it is very difficult to pass them without being noticed. Some are very relentless. Often a single bark starts the whole barking orchestra in the village. Another thing is their tracking / stalking ability. The reality is that our perfect bug out plan may fail due to a single dog, and we may die

    • @0bserver416

Or worse, a bunch of dogs that have formed a “pack” and will follow/stalk people as long as people have the smell of food with them or could “see” people as food too! Yikes! One of many things folks haven’t considered.

Another option would have been to leave the beans in the jar and cook them, chop up potato and boil in cup. Mash the potato with the butter. Steak could be cooked on a flat rock or seared on the coals directly.

You could also cut the steak 🥩 in half (1/2) so you have the other 1/2 to eat later. I’d only eat 1/2 of the steak, 1/2 of the potato 🥔 and 1/3 of the jar of green beans. As you digest your meal, especially if in the early afternoon/evening, your body could get tired/relaxed, as it digests the food, which could slow you down. Also, someone else mentioned the possibility of a dog noticing the smell of the food on you, or worse, consider you as food! 😳 😱 lots of possibilities.

I love all of your videos, you really think it all out. I would recommend though, that you buy a titanium/aluminum trowel, and dig just far enough in the earth so you can have a smokeless fire to cook everything, then bury the evidence afterwards, so there is no trace of charcoal/coals on the ground. I understand that’s a waste of calories and more time consuming, but in a bugout situation I know you want to move in a environment with as few traces as possible that you where ever there. If they can find the position that you cooked in, they might be able to find the trail you went down to camp out for the night.

I would of halved the food you had, or even quartered it. Placed the remaining meat with in the beans jar. Sliced the potato as it would of cooked quicker. And placed the remaining potatoe wrapped in the foil.
Or dice the lot and make a stew just using your metal mug....
Great show and keep it up.

Just stumbled onto your channel. Great camera work and setting up an SHTF scenario. Plus you are out in the environment training, which is excellent because it helps you figure out what actually works for you. Unlike some of the keyboard warriors who think they can just go out and do it without testing themselves first while things are calm. Tonight after what just happened with Russia, this scenario may become real in many ways. Scary times! I will keep following you and doing more training myself. I am a 62-year-old retired Marine and I have found that my body and mind do not react in the same way they use to, so continued retraining is key for me. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

What a great scenario! This puts it in perspective. I learned 2 big things in the video:
    - Information is more valuable than I thought. By contrast in the digital age, information is cheap.
    - It may be advisable to cook in one place and sleep in another so that evidence of your meal site doesn't betray your camp site.

I suppose they are more of a morale item, and not completely necessary, They do come in handy though If you have to forage for edibles or catch small game. I also carry ziplock bags. I regularly cook a steak "caveman" style. Burn some hardwood down to a bed of coals; add some salt and pepper and toss the steak directly on the coals. Give it about 8-10 minutes then flip it over for another 5-8 minutes. Pull it off, brush off the coals, and let it rest for about 5 minutes, and you will have a perfect (depending on cut/thickness - adjust times accordingly) med. rare steak. Start your canteen cup food when you flip the steak and everything will time out correctly.
