  • Here's What To Study BEFORE Nursing School
    The first thing that you will need to study before nursing school isn't your textbooks, it is dose calc. Medication calculations are super important, and within the first few weeks of your courses you will have a dose calc exam that will test you on how well you can calculate medication doses.
    Now the key thing to know for dose calc is to always use dimensional analysis to solve the math problems.
    I have a simple 6-step process that walks you through how to ace dose calc, literally step-by-step. Do all the practice questions you can get your hands on, and just practice, practice, practice. You'll get more and more confident, and you WILL pass.
    The second thing that you should only review if you feel super confident in dose calc us the Nursing Process. You can start learning about what the nursing process is and how to use it. But this is only after you've practiced dose calc.
    Remember, before nursing school starts focus on dose calc, and once you have that down, review the nursing process.
    You are doing an amazing job, friend! You will be a fantastic nurse that God created only you to be. Keep up all the hard work.

      I have a genuine question, I’ve wanted to be a nurse for a long time now. I’m at the top of my class - 18th out of 300 - and have great SAT/ACT scores. However, I smoke a lot of weed; it’s something i’ve always been ashamed of and wanted to know if you get drug tested for THC while in nursing school. Please don’t be bias in your answer, if I have to quit weed for my future, I have to.

      @@trepid4220 I'm not sure what you mean by don't be bias but to answer your question, I had to take a drug test prior to getting accepted into my nursing program. We have to take drug test during the program as well. If someone fails the drug test, they won't be able to continue the program.

    Hi there, I have a question! I just downloaded your dosage calculations pdf and I was a little confused on practice problem #2.
    Q. The doctor ordered 50 mg of Metoprolol twice a day for hypertension. You only have 25 mg tablets in the med cart. How many tablets will you give your patient?
    A. 50 mg/1 day x 1 tablet/25 mg = 2 tablets
    So I'm curious about the 2 tablets of 25 mg only amounting to 50 mg, when in the problem it says 50 mg twice a day. So would the total amount of mg the patient needs in a day be 100 mg? If so, wouldn't that mean the nurse has to give 4 tablets to the patient instead of 2?
    Sorry, I'm just a little confused on the math. Does the amount of times a patient take a medication not apply to the math? Please let me know as I am also learning this information! :)

    • @NursingSOS
      @NursingSOS  ปีที่แล้ว

      @user-wz6iq8kn2z, we actually walk through this problem in this video too: th-cam.com/video/EqwarsFVsYY/w-d-xo.html but you would only solve for the dose that is ordered and due right then. You wouldn't be figuring it out for the entire day, just for that dose unless it was otherwise specifically noted. So when it is asking us how many tablets we would give our patient that is for that specific dose, not the full day. I hope that clarifies it for you!
