      I pulled into a fueling station and I noticed a group of guys watching us. No big deal, we’re driving a skoolie. When I went into the store, one of the guys approached me and said he thought it was a CIA bus. He then told me: once you got out, I realized it was just a couple hippies and a dog.
      I couldn’t stop laughing

      Thank you for commenting. The current color is an epoxy primer. We’re enjoying it for now but it will likely get painted in the future 😊

  • @garyaanderson214
    @garyaanderson214 ปีที่แล้ว

    The bad part about epoxy primer is ultra violet from the sun degrades it badly so the put the top coat on later thinking may be a bad surprise

    You didn't tape up the door latches but taped up the window molding? WTF? You tape up anything that paint or primer may affect the operation. You may have seized the access door latches on your bus by doing that. The polymer access latches of the front service panels for the turn signals and wipers may be ruined and need replacing as they're plastic and not metal. Taking a paint solvent to it may ruin the latches to where they're not usable. Not a cheap or quick fix.
    If it needs to move, provide data, power or water you remove it and reinstall it or at least tape over it so those items are protected. I can't tell you how many things I've seen ruined by the item being stupidly painted over and not being removed or properly taped over to protect it from paint because I've lost count.

    • @artsyreclaimed6821
      @artsyreclaimed6821  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is only a primer coat to get the bus legal. to address the “WTF” question..It’s our adventure bus. Our goal is getting this bus on the road right away.
      You do have some good points. It is best to remove all mechanical pieces in an ideal situation. However, we’re cool with less than ideal for the moment.
      Priming the door latches had no impact on operation. At worst, it would crack the primer once it dried. Taking them off wasn’t in our budgeted time. Next summer we plan to strip the bus down and do bodywork. The final decision to not remove latches were their condition. They are potted and will need blasted or replaced.
      You may have a different bus than me, but my access panels are metal. I’m not about paint ruining plastic. Many points are formulated specifically for plastic. At worst, it’s lack of adhesion.
      Anyway, I definitely appreciate you watching and commenting

      @@artsyreclaimed6821 I understand the rush. I've had many very bad experiences painting and priming over things that under best painting practices should have been ideally removed or at least taped over and ruined and then I have clean up after their mess replacing datacom equipment. If the painters would have done their job right to begin with, I wouldn't have a problem ticket to replace a paint damaged piece of datacom equipment. My experiences deal with bricks and sticks buildings by so called professional painters who did data and electrical infrastructure damage by wontonly painting over things that should never be painted over.
      I'm dealing with my landlord whose painter prior to my move in last December painted over the bathroom outlet rendering it useless. I have to shave and use my electric toothbrush in the kitchen that has a working outlet. They also painted over the cable outlets and a couple of others which are not usable.

      Uuugh, we’ve flipped a couple houses and some of the things home owners and “fly by night” contractors do is atrocious. With painting, a little prep goes a long way.
      My favorite story of all time. My realtor on a deal told me about a rental. His tenant asked if they could paint the kitchen a dull orange. Knowing the word dull is subjective, he had them submit the request in writing with a color sample. Reluctantly, he agreed.
      They not only painted the walls (including light switches and outlets), they painted the appliances too. He took them to court and lost because he did not specify what parts is the kitchen they could or couldn’t paint.
