No need for editing. A mistake here and there makes the experience more real and casual. The vibe is what matters and you have that perfected. Just watching you go "into the zone" and lose yourself in the music while playing makes your videos great.
Leland is the best person for u to get all the inside information from. He has played with so many different people and has so many stories to tell 🎈👀💯🙏
He is a perfect gentleman at work which is essential to the line of work he is in. Of course, he is also an ace bassist and he shows up on time to gigs. We can all learn a little bit from that.
People who have spend time to really master their instrument instead of just trying to be famous. No prestige, just a passion for music and respect to other musicians. Why should that be so difficult? Love this guy! Stands for the real value!
Your current format is perfect for me. Especially with headphones to blank out everything else, I can maintain the illusion of sitting in a room with a few friends, chatting with and listening to a musical legend. For a few minutes every day I'm not old, disabled and stuck in my apartment. I appreciate you and your channel very much.
Take care Brian. I'm isolating but in different circs to you, but Leland's videos make me smile too. He's bringing so many people together. Sending you love and hope you stay safe wherever you are in the world... X
I'll throw my vote in for "no need to change anything." For me this is dropping in for a chat with a cool neighbor who has had a very interesting life.
Don’t change, don’t edit, as it is it is perfect. As you mentioned being global, I’m over in Singapore. This has been a highlight of this lockdown time for me. Love the chat.
No edit. We’re all adults here. You’re great. What I love most about your video - after having listened to this song many many times - is to really be able to hear the base line and realize how crucial and how good it is. Wow.
No Editing!!!! I love the straight through performance. Your TINY mishaps are what make you PERFECT! ...Just turn on the camera and record. I don't want "perfect performances" here on your channel. If I want those I will listen to your recordings!... I want Lee Sklar RAW! Thanks brother! Love your channel!
YES, please don't edit your videos. You are perfectly capable of carrying a cohesive, cognitively coherent monologue- in other words, normal human speech! There's a sort of trend with people over-editing their videos that makes them unwatchable to me, and suggests they can't think and speak without it. Hate to say it, but Beato did that to your interview, and it stood out compared to yours that way. OK, rant over. Love you, thanks as always, Lee!
That single drum hit at 12:11 was the one I always loved to wait for when Jeff played it...so perfectly timed...always made me smile! Thank you for this one, Leland...love it! 🧡
I am a drummer Leland, and YOU are my favorite bass player hands down. Yes, including Jaco and Louis Johnson. You are that special of a player. Thanks for the Toto episode.
How on earth can someone not love you? Seriously, you've got to be the most friendly, mega-professional, one of a kind, best of his art pro musician ever. Please do NOT edit those YT sessions, because for sure it'll massively reduce the aura and soul and lifeliness of your stories, recalls and performances. Its so much a pleasure and privilege the way it is now. Raw and real right from your desk. Could be next door from where each us enjoys this... Regarding Simon Philips I feel somehow really bad. Simply because I found his influence to be more Toto-like than with Jeff himself originally. I know I know, sounds crazy, still I enjoyed the live concerts more with Simon on the drums. Somehow he seemed to play Toto tunes even more fluidly, smoothly, kinda thai-chi way of drumming. At even the highest speeds, fastests and hardest passages it always seemed like he was easily sailing over his drum set. Of course thats purely from a very personal point of view. NOT from a historical or emotional point of view, where I very much missed Jeff, and still do. Shanon on the other hand never seemed to have had that silky smoothness, this flow going on. To me he rather appeared robotic-y, with short and kinda mechanic movements, still perfectly tight, but rather working the drums really hard than sailing'em with a smiling ease. Hard to express, and of course again very personal interpretation. Everyones mileage may vary. Thanks again, especially for picking Toto today, just wonderful. Have a nice start into the week. 👍
The ‘Falling In Between’ live video is the definitive Toto for me.. Well produced, with excellent staging and sound.. The curtain drop in the beginning is epic.. One for the ages..
I’ll weigh in here, as a fellow bassist at 68 years old. What you’re providing here is excellent. In this self isolation, your daily posts are an absolute joy and we (my non musician wife and I) look forward to your posts, whether about studio craziness or, and especially the gig stories. Keep ‘em coming, man.
I saw you on TV the first time in the early 80s - I was 5 and was mesmerised. I remember thinking one day I will have a beard like that. Today I'm 40 and you're the reason I have a massive beard though not as glorious as yours! Thanks for these videos I don't miss one. You've kept me company during these insane and stressful times. You've always been my favourite bass player and I like you even more now and I'm so glad I got to know you (even if virtually) a little more. You're such a great guy! Thanks and stay safe!
I remember talking to you on FB during the 5 days you were rehearsing for the Toto tour. You were really busting your balls to make it work, your professionalism and integrity is peerless. And you knocked it out of the park - so many intricate details in the arrangements that you totally nailed. It was a remarkable, heroic effort.
Hey Lee, I remember that very first tour with You was back in 2007.It was my first TOTO concert ever. I remember that I was really happy to recognize this legendary bass player on that stage and I felt for Mike Porcaro at the same time. I was impressed by your personality takin this big task serious, full of love and as the humbled human being I saw You personally ever since. It taught me a lot about being a real musician. Love & Thankfulness from Germany. :-)
I saw the same tour, it was the Falling In Between tour in 2007. I saw the first UK show at Bristol Colston hall, and again a few days later at Manchester Apollo. Lee depping was so new that no-one even knew he was in the band, though I recognised him immediately. I think Luke said that they had only contacted Lee a week ago, and he'd had 5 days to learn the set, so Bristol must have been right after the Dubai festival. I must say, being very familiar with the band's material, even the then new Falling In Between album, Lee didn't play a single wrong note as far as I could hear - a totally flawless performance !
Things we learn from your channel: Humility; importance of "The Zone" (sometimes The Twilight...); musician's Instincts; and how to learn from a great teacher. Please resist the temptation to edit. One thing I have learned...If you make a mistake, do it again and they will think you intended it. Keep on keepin' on.
Toto has been one of my favorite bands of all time. That Toto rhythm and feel is so unique. I love that you stood in for Mike. You're a good soul Mr. Sklar
First time seeing this one (hello from 2024) and your talk about Mike was so thoughtful and touching. I think your heart is even more admirable than your bass playing, and you’re the best to many of us.
As an Army vet still serving, I really liked hearing your words about Memorial Day. Thanks for saying those things. It's also cool hearing from someone that listened to during most of my life!
I just love listening to you play over the song so we can actually appreciate and really enjoy what you actually do. Such a talent sir! I am in awe of you. A true superstar and humble to a fault. I feel like I am reliving your life with you. Keep going please...
Toto..."my" band ! Love them since I can remember. So many hits to survive for decades ! "Jake to the bone" is still one of my favorites. Thank you for all your stories !
Thank you for all you did with Toto, picking up the baton from Mike Porcaro. I was devastated when Mike got ALS, such a hideous thing to happen to anyone let alone such a great guy like him. I saw you on the Falling In-between tour in Manchester and you were great, I saw you afterwards being so kind and humble with all the fans. Thank you.
Thanks for taking the time to do this. It's so nice to get to know you up close and personal. As far as these videos go, may I quote a favorite saying? " Don't fix it if it ain't broken". So many of us are sick of the slick productions battering our daily lives. Keep it real, Mr. Sklar.
Lee, please don’t change the way you make these videos, it’s refreshing to watch a “one take” version when everyone else’s have multiple takes. You are unique and these videos reflect that..
Honestly Leland, I really enjoy your life stories in chronological order, as that's how life plays out. Your current musical achievements are well documented but your early material, both band and studio, are unknown. Ultimately the past influences our future resolutions. And please don't edit or script. Keeping it raw develops creativity, spontaneity, and reveals character. Thanks again. 👍👍🇭🇲
I love the top to bottom takes. It’s real and feels like I’m sitting right there with you. Thank you for spending precious time with us. Love you, man.
I found you through Toto! So glad that I did. I love the music but when are we going to see more of your garden and backyard? Maybe you should start a second gardening channel, it all looks beautiful! Greetings from Germany.
Another great "episode" Toto is arguably one of the foremost American bands. These cats come from such a rich musical lineage, their extensive session experience intertwined with monster chops...etc. So tragic when a family is decimated as the Porcaros' have had to endure. I can list many folks that could replace their untimely departure...what a loss! Again thanks for sharing Leland Sklar, your personal involvement and insight are very special...✌
You're doing great Leland. No editing required. Authenticity is your thing, and appeal, so no need to polish things up 👍🏻 You're my new favorite channel.
It’s so special to hear your wise words and see you play through this great track... really, it’s a joy and a genuine privilege to be in your company. Love and good vibes to you from the UK x
The feel, to me, was among the best of your video posts to date. What ever was going on internally this time around seemed to be coming out in a better connection to the tune. Seems like you are getting more comfortable with playing with tunes in utube videos....maybe it was the heart felt speak on the pacaro’s? At any rate, I love hearing connection and I felt connection in this video. You are such a great dude, thanks for your posts.
You are an absolute treasure, sir. I've been a fan of yours for as long as I can remember and hearing you speak of your time with Toto and hearing you play Georgy Porgy is an absolute thrill. You helped me learn the importance of the song and making it sound better. Thank you for being the influence you are to me and the rest of the world!!!
Lee, I really appreciate the time you put into this. It takes time thinking about the content and practicing and then there's the recording. It all adds up even when all goes as planned. Your relaxed style makes it all look pretty effortless, but I know there's a lot more going into these. Thanks for doing these. As much as I enjoy you talking about music, could you at some point talk about your interest in basset hounds and also hot rods?
Being able to seamlessly cover mistakes without breaking time is the mark of a professional, capable musician who is very comfortable with his instrument and his ability. Loved it sir.
You are such a comforting presence on TH-cam. Thank you for your videos. It’s cool that you and Waddy Wachtel are almost exactly the same age. Both of you have contributed so much to rock and contemporary music. Keep it going. 👍🏼
Absolutely with you on this. I had a great uncle who died in military service overseas, and then my step dad, who had been in the Marines, died with ALS back in '91. As you were saying, ALS is a terrible way to go. Thank you for posting! Always love your work on the bass!
Mr.Leland is the master and he is from another planet. On other hand such a wonderful person. He speaks with enormus respect about other musicians in such a nice and polite way.I have heard Toto first when I was 16.Since then I have got all their albums.I have been on two of their concerts, both in Frankfurt with Simon Phillips on drums.Mr.Leland I have seen in Zagreb,Croatia playing with Phill Collins.Such charisma and virtuosity, the audience just loved him for his way of taking a part on that concert. He mastered it so easily and with such elegance.I enjoy your videos and hope to see more of them in the future....all the best to you,Mister!Greetings from Split,Croatia.
I love getting notifications from your channel. You are one of the few. I enjoy your stories and most of all your music. Thanks for sharing how you got asked to play.
Mike Porcaro my all time favorite bass player. When Toto brought Mike in it made perfect sense, brothers, best childhood friends, but at the time alot of people thought that they were kicking David Hungate aside just to give their brother/best friend a dream job. This however wasn't the case. David Hungate did not want to travel Toto's ever expanding touring schedules which was starting to be international as well as domestic. It didn't take long for Mike Porcaro to prove himself and show the world that if one half of the bands rhythm section included a guy named Jeff Porcaro... you have about two options if you want to make it in that band 1.) Make a deal with the devil at the crossroads OR 2.) Have the same DNA & rhythm running through your veins as Jeff Porcaro. Obviously the latter seemed to have worked out well for everyone involved. R.I.P. Jeff and Mike Porcaro.
Greeat Leland Sklar, you're the master. BTW, love the furniture of your house; those old furnishings are just amazing, and they take me back to times when the values of the world and the human being where other ones. 20th century... the 60's, 70's and 80's....
Hey Leland, forget the editing. We love raw and organic! Loved your intro with Rosanna in Falling in Between tour. Could you do that one? Lived the Phat chords and feel! Felt like something you had a hand in... And Greg
Don’t edit nothing Leland. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. You’re as good a story teller as you are a bassist. You are a GOD at both, and an absolute tonic during lockdown.
Why on earth should you stress yourself with EDITING? I appreciate that it's just you, with your stories and your bass, as you are t the moment, understanding that, as you said, you're playing in a 'Work' mode every day, when your chops would be better. I was reminded this weekend that you played on at least three albums by the contemporary Christian artist Steve Camp in the late 80s/early 90s. I have two of those albums on cassette on storage, but it occurred to me to listen to one of the ballads on "Justice". And listening to the bass part, it occurred to me, "Hey, I think that's Leland Sklar on bass".... it must have been after hearing "Do You Know Where You're Going To," that it occurred to me you took the same "upper register approach" … and then I remembered the big "gospel" number, and I remembered listening for that bass part back then, when I was much younger and listened to Christian Contemporary music. I know you played on several CCM projects. I don't expect you to play those here because I know lot of folks might not identify with the music. But the chops are there, in a record not many people would hear, the same as they would be in a James Taylor or Phil Collins record. Professionalism.
You should also realize how popular you are, and how much people around the world recognize your talent and perfection in playing a bass. It would exciting to be recognized in this way for the profession I chose to do for much of my life. It is a humbling thought. And yes Leland you are that good!!
I love the fact that you've got 18 mins of one-take stuff straight from the heart. the bass blemish is actually the best part! certainly, you could nail it if you practiced it or edited it -- but it's the fact that you don't that makes it so great. stay safe / stay awesome
Top to Bottom amazing human being. Hope to see you live again, one day, but these TH-cam posts have allowed all of us to get to know you and your inspirational outlook on the world around you. Many Thanks!, just when we all need it the most...
This tour’s video, because you were on it, brought me “back” to Toto to the point that they’ve now been my favorite band since (until Immediate Family releases, of course). So tough the circumstances, but I was starting to learn bass at the time and you’ve long been one of my fav cats forever. So looking for stuff of yours, I came across the video of this tour. Thank you Leland. Know you’re responsible for a full catalog purchase and following of the band of brothers.
From Europe / Belgium with all my respect for your memorial day and why not included the Porcaro Family to who lost 2 brothers but wel parents or kids to from everyone and of course very great musicians...
One of my funniest memories is an interview with Lee after the Toto tour and they were talking to him about how he learned all the show since he had to memorize the show. Lee said they offered him charts as well that the audio recording. Lee told them charts are like heroin and if you give them to me I'll never get off them, so just give me the audio recordings. "charts are like heroin" Iove that line.
Lee, I caught you with Toto two (?) Years ago at the NYS State Fair in Syracuse, absolutely loved the show and had the inestimable privilege of chatting with Lenny afterwards. I recently stumbled on your channel here and have followed you daily. Your demeanor is such a breath of fresh air, feel like I've known you all my life, a real privilege to be tuned in to you. I'm still gigging, but at 69, arthritis is making it difficult. Thank you from the depths of me, and all of us, for being such a bright, refreshing light in such a dark period. People like you make the world a much better place. Rock on, brother....
Thanks for this Lee. I was just explaining to one of my students that we as musicians are the custodians of music’s history and few are better at this mandate than you. Please continue with your videos and you witness to all the great music.
Yes!!! Let's repeat history! ;O en.wikiquote.org/wiki/George_Santayana "By their mind, its scope, quality, and temper, we estimate men, for by the mind only do we exist as men, and are more than so many storage-batteries for material energy. Let us therefore be frankly human." th-cam.com/video/EH0dq02TOPQ/w-d-xo.html
I attended the concert in Stockholm on that tour, a great, great show. Interesting to hear you say that Shannon Forrest is closer to Jeff Porcaro in terms of style of drumming than Simon Phillips (obviously, an amazing drummer in his own right), I thought so too. Thank you so much for the video. I agree completely with the previous speaker (Landshark Mark) about the vibe :-)
Totally agree with you , i went to a TOTO concert in Puebla Mexico , and i didnt like how Simon played Pamela rhat is one of mi favs TOTO songs , but when i heard Shannon i thought he play pamela almost identical to Jeff porcaro wooow
Love from Pakistan! Me and my husband love watching your videos especially in these strange times... you're so friendly, warm and genuine! ❤ bless you always! Stay safe !🌸
Dear Leland, the first tour was in 2007 when I was able to meet you after the show in Buenos Aires, and Greg Phillinganes was in keyboards. Hope to see you again and thank you so much for your channel / videos. Hey @SiriusXM, what are you waiting for to get dear Lee with you?
Yep, 'Fallin' In Between' but Lenny Castro wasn't part of the TOTO line-up (yet) in 2007, if I'm not mistaken... th-cam.com/video/3o1JMlVNMcs/w-d-xo.html At least once a week I listen to this fantastic concert!
There is a sort of a friend somewhere in the USA He is a great human being and a great musician and he has played with all of our beloved heroes And now he's sharing all his stories and all his gifts knowing we're in this 'game' together And he is loved and respected for that by all musicians over the world and I am one of them . So close and so far away Thank you very much sir Leland ! Greetings from Holland (yes I saw you with James in Amsterdam)
Leland Sklar : BASS ICON A BASSIST'S BASSIST He makes every song he plays on feel good !!!! As a drummer, everyone would want to play woth this anchor. He locks it down in any style !!!! I finally got to see Mr. Sklar live with Mr. Collins in my hometown of Louisville in 2019 and it was OBVIOUSLY A GREAT SHOW !!!! Mr. Sklar thank you for all of your music over the years !!!! Live and recorded it is a BLESSING !!!!
No need for editing. A mistake here and there makes the experience more real and casual. The vibe is what matters and you have that perfected. Just watching you go "into the zone" and lose yourself in the music while playing makes your videos great.
Some of his reactions to the odd clam are really laugh out loud funny too! Couldn't agree more though.
Leland is the best person for u to get all the inside information from. He has played with so many different people and has so many stories to tell 🎈👀💯🙏
like he needs your words of encouragement :) he is Leland Sklar for Christ sake!
I simply love the rawness it displays brute honesty, love the videos Leland keep going, you rock!
Yes, I was noticing Lee getting into the zone but detected in his eyes that maybe some memories were going through his mind as well. Bittersweet.
I love how he speaks aboutother musicians. With so much love and respect.
Obviously believes in the saying "if you can't say anything good about someone say nothing" - you never hear him bag anyone.
He is a perfect gentleman at work which is essential to the line of work he is in. Of course, he is also an ace bassist and he shows up on time to gigs. We can all learn a little bit from that.
A true gentleman with a beautiful soul.
Well stated!
Take care Brian. I'm isolating but in different circs to you, but Leland's videos make me smile too. He's bringing so many people together. Sending you love and hope you stay safe wherever you are in the world... X
Living with pain and disability is hard. In my twentieth + year. All in all channels like this and people like you make life worth fighting for. Peace
Brian, It must be very difficult to be in your condition. I'm old, but I still get around ok. May God bless you.
Sir, your body may be disabled, but your taste in music is sharp as a knife!
Hope you’re alright three years later.
TOTO!!!!!Long live Luke and Porcaro...!!! Thanks Leland....And God bless your father for his service!
I'll throw my vote in for "no need to change anything." For me this is dropping in for a chat with a cool neighbor who has had a very interesting life.
Since Lee is 4 months older than me, I can say to this: "right on"!
Don’t change, don’t edit, as it is it is perfect. As you mentioned being global, I’m over in Singapore. This has been a highlight of this lockdown time for me. Love the chat.
Great analogy!
Leland gets my vote for the sweetest human being ever.
Lukather knocked that solo out of the park!!! Thanks for sharing these tour stories and your playing with us. Love it!!
No edit. We’re all adults here. You’re great. What I love most about your video - after having listened to this song many many times - is to really be able to hear the base line and realize how crucial and how good it is. Wow.
I like "top to bottom" performances also. Keep your videos raw and real. Stay safe and well, Leland.
Exactly. The beauty is in the freedom and any small error becomes a part of that. I love that Leland’s vids are so loose and free-form.
Leland Sklar - No editing required
👍🏼😂
No Editing!!!! I love the straight through performance. Your TINY mishaps are what make you PERFECT! ...Just turn on the camera and record. I don't want "perfect performances" here on your channel. If I want those I will listen to your recordings!... I want Lee Sklar RAW! Thanks brother! Love your channel!
man,he has such a calming voice...he could be a great mentor or psychologist...
He’s been my voice of sanity during this...

@Astrotrain52 Reviews why?
I have to agree. In fact, that's how I was enlightened to Simon.
(Via Toto)
Such love and respect being shown for Mike Porcaro and thats a beautiful thing. Leland is such a classy guy.

LOL Somewhere I heard a woman's hair described as her "glory" so your comparison of beards is especially fitting? ;)

Heartbreaking story about Mike. RIP Jeffrey and Michael Porcaro. 🥰❤
Bless you Lee. Mikey was the most beautiful cat. I met him on several occasions and he always had a smile, a hug and that laugh.
Toto has been one of my favorite bands of all time. That Toto rhythm and feel is so unique. I love that you stood in for Mike. You're a good soul Mr. Sklar
Don't change anything! The reason I continue to watch this channel is for the rawness of the channel! Love from Arctic Sweden :)

Yes, I agree: "No Punch-ins"! These videos are great the way they are! 15:25
Live, and real. Don't change anything, Leland. You got the GROOVE and here, it's human. It's perfect.
dear Lee, I really like your "Falling in Between" live work with Toto, specially Falling in Between, it´s a great power song!!!
It is great that we can be connected around the World through internet:-) Being connected to my big idol Mr. Sklar ;-) Thank you for playing TOTO
I love the top to bottom takes. It’s real and feels like I’m sitting right there with you.
Thank you for spending precious time with us.
Love you, man.
To every one or animal who lost their lives in conflict ..amen
I agree with all the comments about the editing. No fancy mic's, no fancy camera. Perfect just the way you are doing it now. Don't change a thing.
I found you through Toto! So glad that I did. I love the music but when are we going to see more of your garden and backyard? Maybe you should start a second gardening channel, it all looks beautiful! Greetings from Germany.
God, how I love your video’s! Thank you so much Mr. Sklar, for sharing your beautiful stories and great playing!!
"Do you need a bass tech." OMG. What a wonderful man.
No editing, no punching in - we love you and your music and your stories
It’s so special to hear your wise words and see you play through this great track... really, it’s a joy and a genuine privilege to be in your company. Love and good vibes to you from the UK x
To me, your friendliness is all the polish this needs. Keep on being you and take care!
Thanks for this Living material. No edits, talking and music are Amazing. Greetings from Finland :)
Rosanna please.. love to see your take on the infamous bass riff leading into the chorus..Please 😎
Love your daily uploads!
I second that motion!
I third that motion. Love these videos Lee.
Being able to seamlessly cover mistakes without breaking time is the mark of a professional, capable musician who is very comfortable with his instrument and his ability. Loved it sir.
And sending my thoughts to all of you in America on Memorial Day. God bless you all
Thank you. I hope someday War is only a story in history books.
Thank you for the kind words. Peace and love.
Some of the best musicians ever assembled!
And Greg
Leland I have been a fan of yours for 30 years. What a prolific career! Thanks for sharing your time and talents with us.
Lee, I loved your work with Toto. I don’t think there’s a bassist on earth who wouldn’t be honored to have you sit in for them.
I would listen to anything Leland plays whether I identify with it or not. Music crosses all barriers in my opinion.
Really, no need for editing. I just love the way you roll. Just great. Thank you.
From Europe / Belgium with all my respect for your memorial day and why not included the Porcaro Family to who lost 2 brothers but wel parents or kids to from everyone and of course very great musicians...
Salute fron Brazil Leland!
Yes!!! Let's repeat history! ;O

Yeah, as a fan of good music please teach these little turds on how to make real music.
I swear, I feel like we're old friends just enjoying a conversation and good music together, you rock dude
Leland, stick to the top to bottom format I'd say. Stay safe!
Always great. I like not seeing massive slapping technique. Just perfect notes and feel. 👍
Excellent! Marvelous!! Don't worry about mistakes, were all human, and you're among the really good ones we need these days, thank you
I attended the concert in Stockholm on that tour, a great, great show.

At least once a week I listen to this fantastic concert!
@@jabovski yup! that amazing album tour. thanks!
How the hell do you get all these gigs. You are a legend. I've been playing guitar for 43 years.
These videos have been so great to watch. Love the stories and the playing. Thanks for your time!
Dear Lee, we NEED you to do Rosanna.
Leland Sklar : BASS ICON
A BASSIST'S BASSIST
He makes every song he plays on feel good !!!!
Lee used to kiss all the girls and made them cry! Mostly the wad of whiskers they had to spit out afterwards caused the tears. ;)
Simply joyous to watch and listen! Thank you!
Excelente!!!! El Bajo siempre amigo del Baterista, es el Puente. Bravo!!!! Saludos desde Chile en Patagonia.
