We should start implementing our plans right away. One glimpse into Toyota's plans for electric vehicles in the future can be found in the 2021 Compact Cruiser. The 17-year-old gas-powered FJ Cruiser will no longer be sold in that country in December 2022, just like in the US. On August 15th, Toyota Japan trademarked the "Land Hopper" moniker. Many were surprised by the striking resemblance between the new Toyota Land Cruiser and a slightly altered Compact Cruiser when it was unveiled two weeks later. The news broke in September via Drive in Australia and Japan's Best Car that production of the compact Land Cruiser will begin in the first quarter of 2024.
At this time, we're referring to it as the Land Hopper. According to Japanese media, the 2021 Compact Cruiser will be available with a variety of fuel options. Gasoline, diesel, hybrid, or all-electric options are available. Reportedly, a scaled-down version of the GA-F body-on-frame chassis supports the new Lexus GX, Sequoia SUV, 300 and 250 series Land Cruisers, Tundra and Tacoma pickups, and Toyota Land Hopper. This probably necessitated rearranging some of the engine's components. The ladder frame chassis currently excludes the adoption of an electric drivetrain.
It is anticipated to be 171 inches long, 73 inches wide, and 74 inches tall. Land Hopper dimensions are five inches shorter, two inches wider, and ten inches taller than a 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross. A 4Runner, on the other hand, would be 26 inches long, hips 22 inches wide, and shoulders 3 inches taller. The Land Cruiser presentation featured a spare tire carrier in silhouette, which is one component that adds to the bigger size.
