When I had chickens (before back surgery) I made a candler using a coffee can with the plastic lid. I stood an LED flash light up in the can (wrapped in a towel so it stood) then cut a square in the plastic lid for my egg to lay on. That was my candler and it worked.

Patara, do you have to keep a broody with a clutch of eggs separated off from all of your other chickens, like in a separate enclosed area? Would the other chickens hurt the freshly hatched chicks?

I’m so glad that you made this video. We have been candling our eggs since we have roosters. We now have fertilized eggs 😅 and we are so happy. We have 10 dozen eggs and they are not fertile and not selling for some reason on marketplace. I don’t know if we have them in the wrong category or what. But hopefully we will be breeding chickens and growing our flock. We are so happy with our beautiful chickens.

Hello there! I’ve a incubator with 2 dozen eggs in (just getting started up again with chickens), my cousin nearby is also incubating eggs, hers are Silkie batoms, question: are those six regullar size eggs the bantam is sitting on? I may end up with a hen , they are likely to be broody!

At day 7 I could see the veining in 3 but wasn't sure what they were supposed to look like now. I have 3 💃💃 growing. Now I know the 4th (spare egg sent) is not. You are so informative thanks again

Hello, I am on day 15 of incubation, and when I candle my chick I can not see any movement like I did the day before, it’s been 3 days of cancelling gently and i have not seen any movement, all I can see is the shape of the chicks body just sitting there, there isn’t any blood ring though. Is my chick dead?

Our broody hen won after several tries to stop that behavior with only partial success. So we put 2 eggs from our other hens under her and she accepted them. I will check in about a week for fertility. My question will a broody hen get off the nest for food and water or should we take her off nest and be sure she has food and water or just let nature take its course? Off course if we get chicks can we leave them with broody hen in the flock or separate the hen or chicks or both away from the flock?
