hey Les good to see you again its just my opinion but i think one reason coyote hunting is getting tougher is people buying these electronic callers and dont know how to use them a few years back i was out in the dessert deer hunting sitting on the side of a butte and a subburbon pulls up below me two guys got out walked out into the sage brush sat down and proceeded to play every sound the caller had in it if there was any coyotes around i can only imagine how confused they must have been i think that is making it harder for all of us anyhow thanks for the video see you on the next one

Welcome Back Les !!! started calling in 1971 so have been at it for a bit. Last Sept. we made our normal stands some time as many as 16 dogs in two days . have one set up 8 in a row.with the same setup. This year we did not see one dog with perfect conditions. on the same stands. at least 85% of my kills are with a shot gun, we hunt high sage remember its called hunting!
Good stuff Les. Btw, the warm snap in Montana is over. Winter showed up with a vengeance in February. I've got a couple of feet of snow on my lawn and it's been below zero more than it's been above zero since February started. Really messing my fishing plans.
This video has prevented me from throwing in the towel so far. I've gone to about 60-70 stands and have yet to bag a coyote. I live in Western Washington where coyote hunting is much more difficult. They have so much cover and thick brush to stay safely hidden in, it is difficult to find an open area let alone call these coyote out into an open area. It is seemingly impossible.

I started bout 7 years ago, shot my first coyote very first ever stand in my life. 38 min. I averaged 50-60 min stands and I killed more coyotes than all my last 6 years that year. Went to a comp, guys telling me don’t go past 20 min. So I started doing 30 min. For 3 years I don’t shoot half the amount as first year, been doing hr stands ever since, destroying it. Other day I shot a coyote at 1hr and 30 min! Missed one at 30 min. Turned off call cuz shot 5 times. 20 min later eating a sandwich, I see 2 yotes 700 out. Turned call on, yotes never looked but creeped my way, 45 min later, i shot one at 12 steps, if had shotgun both was dead! Patience baby
Thanks for the tough love Les! haha. I give up after 5 min so I'll work on being more patient. I know coyotes are in my hunting areas because 1) I've seen them and 2) I see them on the trail cam I put up to see what's in the neighborhood.

Les your back and this is weird The other day I finally got 2 to come in and one was a big red I believe a coywolf and hit the gray with 4buck Dying rabbit 20 min then female invitation for 20again and the KIYI at end and I believe both males looking for love...FEB rut is on and swamp was froze over which gave them highway from the mountain den This was 3pmEST and these are impossible northeast coyotes!!!!!
Winter's been vicious here in Missouri with lots of days of super cold, snowy days, and the freezing rain days. Glad to see you back on TH-cam!!! Sportsman's Channel, and Outdoor Channel, and Pursuit Channel are all carrying predator shows...but those guys are using electronic calling devices... few if ANY are using hand-held calls. I wish you were back on there using your calls!
Les, new to your channel and really enjoying your videos. I have two questions. First, if you had to only use one type of call: a diaphragm, ecaller or hand call for the rest of your life, which would you pick and why. Two, I've heard many guys, mostly younger, claim their numbers have gone up by either adding a diaphragm to their calling sequence or switching to a diaphragm all together. I know you sell diaphragm calls so I'm not asking you to bash them, but as someone who right now pretty much uses an ecaller exclusively I am looking into diaphragms (your's in particular after I found your recent video on howling) and adding a hand call. My wife asked me why? If ecallers are so realistic, why spend the money on the other two? I was hoping you could help with answering that since I have almost zero experience and I've enjoyed your common sense answers. If you've already done a video on this maybe you could guide me to that video? Thanks and enjoying your videos!
Well, Doggies! It's been a fur piece since we saw ya last, Les. Have ya been ok, health wise? Enjoyed your vid this morning. It's always good to get to see the one who really got me into the mindset of getting out, learning and making a stand - one that's memorable from success of all involved. There's always that stand when everything is in your favor, and ya call and next thing ya know, your getting hiway'd. They're coming in 3, 4, 5 at a time, not worryin bout windin; they are focused and in stealth shark attack mode headed on a bee-line for that rabbit that's crying. Ok, well... I've almost crossed into the Word Fit Zone. That's what Woodrow F Call said Augustus McCrae would have, in his explaining. It was mandatory viewing for my kids when they hit 4th grade to watch Lonesome Dove. Then one eve Dad was explaining something when outta the blue, one of the girls bellard out, "Mom!! Dad's Havin A Word Fit!!". Then sure enuff, here comes their Mother in rescue em from a heart felt learnin experience from their lovin Dad. 😉😎 Well then. I'm really done this time. Thank you for imparting your own experiences and results of a few of the many years worth of Gettin To Callin. Y'all take care and be good to each other. And above all, handle your firearms as if your Wife & Kids lives depended on it, which we all know, it does!
I live in Washington state where coyote hunting is very good not a lot of pressure. born and raised in North Dakota I go back every year in December 1 and bow hunt for whitetails and hunt coyotes everyday for the entire month this year was a lot of 30 degree 40 degree temperatures during the day the coyotes were only active at night time hunting wheat stubble with cat tail sloughs an bedding on the cattail sloughs where the pheasants where soon as it got light not pastures an hills ect. do. I stop using distress calls and I just used your calls less and howled what I found was the cayots weren't that hungry but they didn't like a strange coyote in their territory and they came running and running hard which made me think of January when they were starting to pair up and breed like bugling for a bull elk I decided to not use a distress call but a howl which to my surprise brought in a lot of doubles and more singles. I imagine the singles we're looking for a mate just something to think about. I always give it a half hour at least. Bye the way your clothing for sale is good quality stuff thanks.
I was out calling Saturday morning. I'm training my puppy to decoy coyotes. I was on stand for about 20 minutes when my pup barked at something behind me. 3 coyotes came in the back door and busted me. Just like Les said, learn from mistakes. J/K Now I just need to find some land owners around our area that are willing to let us hunt. Ignorant people keep ruining all the good spots by not respecting the landowners. Les,love your talks! Question....Have you ever just pulled out of a setup area just because it does not feel right? I never just want to go in and end up just educating the coyotes.
Will be starting out coyote hunting this year with a friend up in nw Illinois. Any tips for calling setup. Would a pop-up blind help or hurt us heard both ways. Thanks happy hunting

As usual great information I see the same mistakes being made during deer season, sit in the stand for ten minutes then start walking around. You must have confidence in yourself, & your knowledge of what you're hunting.

as a beginner beginner,I carry a small squirt bottle of coyote urine..squirt tree behind me..they come in very close sniffing,
I have killed 75 minutes in. Educated coyotes will come check where it herd a coyote. But if they have been hunted they take there time.
