Gandhi was a convenient personality for the British to allow to be worshipped. The white world liked the idea of this peaceful protestor who poses no immediate threat. The British didnt leave India because of Gandhi, but because they had already taken from her what she could give, and the political atmosphere was getting increasingly hostile. This was fuelled by non-peaceful revolutionaries. Gandhi just delayed the independence movement by at least 5 decades.

Or more precisely, you have been systematically kept unaware of his contemporaries and their thoughts and actions. Had he not supported the Partition, Indians would have been saved of so much of heartache; so many lives would have been saved. We wouldn't have the Kashmir issue. You know only that you've been told. And that's exactly my original point.

Real Indian freedom fighters got whipped, thrown into dungeons and hanged because they were ACTUAL threat to British. Meanwhile, Gandhi was getting 4 meals a day in his so-called prison sentences. Tbh That tells you the whole story. Gandhi was a monk, a cult leader who was given supreme political power which was dumbest thing in history of humanity. No monk or philosopher can be nation’s leader.

I think it should be noted that he never really stood up for womens' rights and their empowerment. For example, in his famous Dandi march, he had forbidden women to take part. They however, did take part because of the Sarojini Naidu who persuaded him to do so. At the age of 13-14 after he had got married he had explicitly told his wife to never go out of the house without his prior permission. It does not end there. He also thought that it was always the fault of women when they got raped and also they should never fight their rapists. he also stated that the jews in germany should "jump off a clip" and thus refrain from using violence in defending themselves. Also the sole contribution of his towards the indian freedom struggle was that he led to thousands of unnecessary deaths at the hands of the british police which could have been easily avoided by using force and the most important contribution yet was making the arrival of freedom slower, without him and his methods, we would have gotten way long back in our history pursuade

Gandhi did not stop any hindu muslim violence. He only asked hindus to not do anything in reaction even when their family members would be rapped and killed in front of them. He told hindus to self examine of what did hindus have done that a muslim has to commit violence. He didn't not provide any political voice to hindus or Indians, he just asked the majority(hindus) to endure anything literally anything happened to them and that was his version of "ahinsa paramo dharma"

As a Pakistani, I have always been taught to hate Gandhi and that he was somekind of a mischief or hypocrite but the fact is that he was truly a genius and a man of will of his time. Altough I have studied a lot of his works and I must say that nations need a political leader like Gandhi in today's world. It is saddening to see this side of such a great person. This makes me to come to an unbiased conclusion that Jinnah might not be as popular as he is but the former was a man of dignity and Gandhi despite being one of the greatest figures of his time had these loopholes

We learn about Gandhi's life mostly from his own very voluminous and frank writings including about his inner desires and fears. So, nothing quite hidden there. He grew up in a wealthy family in a caste-ridden society and got educated in colonial Britain. So, his views on race in his youth were rather as expected. His later years were marked by well-known struggles against discrimination. Clearly, he evolved in his views on equality. His main contribution to the Indian independence was spearheading the masses into a nationwide movement with help from loyal colleagues, of course. The eventual independence could possibly have come without Gandhi, but his many movements unified a diverse nation and offered templates for many local movements both in India (e.g., Bhoodan, Chipko) and elsewhere. For perspective, his experiments in nonviolence were innovative and inspired millions while those in celibacy were bizarre and surely avoidable.

Yet till now Indian govt spends millions of dollars to further sell the image of Gandhi to west, the white colonizers are very happy as it shows they gave India for the non-violence movement, puts them in great light. I always find it funny when mankind, societies and individuals end up idolising people, rather than ideas.
Gandhi contributed a great deal towards the idea of non violent protests, but clearly had many flaws and peculiarities. Why don’t we as individuals take and use what is useful and discard what is not.
You will benefit far more if you’re able to look at prominent ideas of the past and compile your own principles. For example Isaac Newton contributed so much to Science and mathematics. But also believed in alchemy. Now I can happily discard his beliefs in alchemy, but that doesn’t mean I should discard his mathematical work.
Sometimes we are just too binary in our thoughts and beliefs. Someone is either a God or a tyrant.

On the topic of Ghandhi I doubt it was he who placed himself on a pedestal, it was the British Establishment that did that; the ONLY reason the British Empire liked him is because he didn't fight against the British TERRORISTS in India.

India needs to label him as 'the noble Saint who did nothing that was wrong', and in my opinion, no man is a pure and unevil Saint.
