Unfortunately, this video also made positive mention of 'atheist' Christopher Hitchins -- without mentioning that officially atheist governments murdered more of their own people (and others) than any other governments in human history -- so it's not exactly like the totally non-religious are any better (vastly worse, when you think about it). I mean the church does a lot of research before they make someone a saint. And if there was proof that all of this happened the church would of not made them a saint. Like a medieval character was close to becoming a saint but then they found out the tales about him there was no real proof it happened so there was no saint.

Even Opioids medications were available during that time when mother teresa would leave patients with all their sufferings just because she felt suffering can get them close to the god. Either you believe it or not but mother teresa came in India just to baptise the poverty stricken people.
Despite the $millions she received the patients slept on cots, cancer patients in excruciating pain were given nothing but aspirin and a prayer( she also had a policy that patients receive no visitors). When Mother T was sick she was treated in actual hospital incl one in NY. “The missionary position book by Christopher Hitchens is an excellent book and thoroughly researched!

As a Catholic, I appreciate this video. It's like you mentioned in the beginning, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of god." It's incredibly important that we never idolise anyone in history and look at everyone critically. Sadly, this is not done very often for saints.
Sadly it isn’t done for priests either, at least not consistently. Gotta love clericalism. For the record, I’m also Catholic and study theology.
I think part of the problem is also how we define the word “saint”. Colloquially it means someone that is perfect and does no wrong, but in the Church it means someone that is in heaven. We are all called to be saints because we are all called to be in heaven with God. Because of our human nature we are sinners and will do wrong, but by the mercy of God we can still be in heaven after death, imperfections and all.
Agreed. Yes, I'm Catholic too. The problem with the canonization process these days is that it's a total rubber-stamp joke since 1986 when the process was modernized. They did away with the Devil's Advocate, whose job was to scrutinize the proposed saint's life & any problems. Mother Theresa would have NEVER stood up to such scrutiny.
Moreover, even what counts as a miracle now is a total fraudulent joke in some cases these days. One of Mother Theresa's miracles was a fraud, and the only miracle for John Paul II, the ecumenical modernist heretic & Assissi idolater, was also an utter fraud. Benedict didn't even require two miracles for JP II, just accepted the one fraudulent one. So sad.
They also rubber-stamp canonized the two heretic anti-popes who presided over the dumpster fire of Vatican II & the initiation of the Great Apostacy. Paul VI didn't even have any miracles when Francis canonized him! Everything since Vatican II has just been a false church, the Ape of the Church that Abp Fulton Sheen warned about. 😥
Sure, but I think this video kind of is making a really heavy claim with something that can be explained by poor education and poor money management. She probably did want to spread her religion and maybe that did get to her head, but this video has this tone of “Mother Theresa was making money off the poor”. Doesn’t sit right with me, even though I’m not that invested in this story.

Btw, I spent 20 years as an atheist before my conversion back to Catholicism, which I grew up in, and I used to love Hitchens. I must admit that I still have a soft spot for him. He's still clever and entertaining. Sorry to see him go.

I met her in person in 1992 in Tijuana as she was recovering from heart troubles at Scripts Institute. I was so nervous and rushed that I was to self conscious to have a picture with her. But I have the memories in my brain.

I’ve read quite a bit of Hitchens’ work. He’s a very good and intelligent writer. Sadly, he died of cancer complications in December 2011 at the age of 62.

That book has been debunked: "Unmasking Mother Teresa's Critics" by Bill Donohue. Apart from this there many others that have responded in academic capacity to Hitchens sloppy work he tried to pass off as "truth. Most misinformation about Mother Teresa come from Hitchens book and documentary, neither of which are academic.
He’s a writer, but unfortunately he’s neither good nor intelligent.

Based on some research I did with this quote, I wasn't able to find any historical accounts where St. Augustine says that quote. Furthermore, the saying also appeared in one of Mirza Ahmad Sohrab's works. Though, Wilde was born earlier than him. Then again, I could have missed something. 😅

I had a very sanctimonious catholic roommate when I was in school. She revered this person. I was horrified. That passive-aggressive sanctimony and self-aggrandizement, holier than thou attitude was very confusing to me. Previously I had not met people like that,, My horror at "mother" Theresa, was just proof to the roommate that I was a (non catholic but christian raised) heretic. She felt sorry for everybody, lol. Seriously, the roommate would not have even had a bible or learned how to read without protestants. And the orthodox have a lot of good points. So do baptists. The one year I spent in catholic school (the only christian school in town) and the weird roommate truly left a bad taste. I begged to go to public school after the catholic place, as horrible as public school was, but in a different way.
I vaguely remember that she was deported out of the Philippines for conspiring and hiding cpp-npa members, it was on the news and I can still remember it. My parents also remember it, but when I searched it on the internet I can't find anything.

I say slightly because I do believe that those are definitely not the only reasons for their poverty but to get rid/decrease the presence of those would allow a more prosperous country than simply getting rid of their capitalism.

This is an interesting alternative story of St Mother Teresa. This documentary can not claim to be unbiased with it's association with the late Chistopher Hitchens. I can not address the sterilization practices or mistreatment of patients but there is a real lack of understanding of what suffering means within Catholicism. To unite physical suffering with that of Christ on the cross is a great good. I know this may be hard to understand. Also, this is something that must be done voluntarily. It helps to endure pain knowing that your pain serves the purpose of helping others. Young Catholics used to be taught this . I am a convert out of Protestism so some of the practices did not come naturally to me. I can attest that they work. On the hardest night of my life, the day I became the sole remaining member of my family. Uniting myself and my pain to the suffering Christ helped me make it through that night and the next days.

The unfortunate thing is even now most of the Indians refuse to accept this. She collected millions of dollars but where did the money go? I heard so many stories from Kolkata/Calcutta residents of how she used to take every opportunity to convert the poor and suffering people to the Catholic fold. She was great in showcasing herself and she did it so effectively that all the rich and famous people did their best to get a picture of themselves with her. it's such a shame how much India idolizes her - none of my relatives would even consider any criticisms of her and view her as a literal (pun unintended) saint who could do no wrong. It's the exact same situation as Gandhi - like I understand they both did a lot of good for India but that doesn't mean you can ignore the bad things too. People are human and in no way perfect and i feel like it should be more normal to acknowledge the sometimes terrible things the people you idolise did

My grandma closely worked with mother Teresa. My grandma told me that you would not be able to receive treatment or care from any of Mother Teresa’s healthcare centre’s, or live in her old age home or orphanage if you did not accept Christianity. She also said that most people were not very crazy when they came to mother Teresa but instead they were made mad. They were not treated nicely. Kids were beaten up, locked up and starved if they questioned the nuns. Old people were not treated with care. She actually gloried pain and suffering instead of trying to treat them. My grandma even told Mother Teresa to install a water heater, but she did there is not enough funds when in reality she had recently received a few million dollars from some foreign businessman.

Being touched by the Devil isn't a sin, the more you're tempted the purer you are. @@mijalakis3 Errm, not quite. Exorcisms are only performed on people who have become possessed by demons. It's not a matter of simply being tormented or tempted by demons, though it is true that they sometimes harass people at their deaths, trying to make them fear & despair.
If Mother Theresa was actually exorcised, it means she actually was *possessed* by demons - likely for a long time, because she would have had to have done things that allowed them to gain entrance.
And there *are* a few known cases where the clergy have become possessed, and of course there was St. Mary Magdalene. However, it is completely wrong to say that many priests and saints have felt the need for an exorcism. They were tempted & needed to resist, but they weren't actually possessed and needing an exorcism.
Incidentally, Jesus's Transfiguration doesn't mean what you think it means. It refers to a specific incident where Jesus took Peter & James to a mountain and showed them who He really was, revealed Himself in the full beatific glory of His Divine nature, shining like the sun. That was prior to the crucifixion.

I’ve worked ( volunteers) in orphanages when you don’t have enough supply or money we settled and we make things work for whatever we had for example instead of rice and fish for lunch but because we don’t have enough money we make soups so we can feed everyone .. for people it’s easier to say than done .. mother Teresa truly is a saint she even refused to drink bottle water because it’s expensive she said she can use the money to the poor.. people needs to understand 25 cents it’s a lot of money to the poor.. I visited missionaries of charity facility during a donation drive once a few years ago.a centre formentally sick and old abandoned people. It was an experience I still don't know how to feel about. Our school always held a function of sorts to celebrate her birthday, would invite nuns from MOC and give them supplies. Detergent, food, etc. I was the anchor/organiser in her birth centinerary programme too and found all of this out while researching my material. So it felt uncomfortable singing her praises when I wasn't quite so sure about them.
