I'm 19, and for me Sinatra's songs aren't just "music for grandparents", for me, they are pure gold that it doesnt get older, it gets prettier passing the decades ❤
After all these years of listening to music, Sinatra is the only singer I know where you can actually hear clearly every words in all his songs. That kind of voice control is just incredible.
I love the story behind this, this was just the rehearsal and when finished the director asked when they were going to complete the final...Frank replied "baby we just did it" and walked out the door...
I wish baritone singing would make a comeback because I'm getting tired of hearing too much high note/falsetto singers (though they're all incredibly talented)
Frank Sinatra made me glad that I am a man with his music. BIG was the sound of the orchestration which was food for the soul of a man. Sinatra built on that with his interpretation of the lyrics of the song, always giving a man’s version of the fun in a song or the love of a woman in a song.. Sinatra gave a man in his songs the words of love which is not thought of enough or spoken enough to your woman. Constantly expressing a man’s buried feelings. Frank Sinatra sang a song the way a man should talk to a woman.
Thank my Uncle Tony for introducing me to Frank at an early age. I'm now 70 and hearing Sinatra brings back sweet memories at my Uncles. I appreciate both. There will never ever be 2 sweeter men in.my life
I personally feel that this is his BEST version of "I've Got You Under My Skin" and at probably near the height of his singing career. Such expression and intensity where it is needed. This man was and still is a powerhouse (as Don Rickles said to him) A real entertainer with a golden voice. Never to be duplicated but others should take lessons from Mr. Sinatra on how to be a real entertainer. May he never be forgotten.
NO ONE WAS BETTER AT PHRASING THAN THIS GUY ! A MASTER OF EXPRESSION. OTHERS WILL ALWAYS PALE IN COMPARISON . WE WERE SO LUCKY TO HAVE HIM IN OUR LIVES ! 💙
His style was similar to that of Peggy Lee. They both had perfect phrasing & did not rely on any gimmicks. But both exuded physical responses to the music that 'fit the beat' & showed audiences that they were completely there for them, for the music, & communicated those feelings beautifully. Splendid musicians they both were!
I was fortunate enough to see Frank Sinatra live in 1994 at Riverbend in Cincinnati. I was 33 years old. He was failing and moving a little slow. But the charisma and magnetism were still there. He owned that place. Seriously. I’ve never been to a concert with so many different eras of people there. People in their 80’s and young people all together to listen to the Man. My fav moment-an elderly woman, very classily dressed in a mink coat, stood up and yelled at the top of her lungs, “Sing it Frankie! Sing it!” He turned, smiled and called her to the front of the stage. He handed her the boutonnière in his lapel, and said “This is for you, Baby.” The crowd went wild.
The Nelson Riddle arrangements and orchestra made this so special and exciting! Frank was ultimately responsible. He was inspired by great musicianship throughout his career. Even though Frank never played an instrument, he felt every single part of the orchestra that was a part of his performance.
This really is the best version of "I've Got You Under My Skin". Not only was Frank Sinatra on incredible form for this incredible session where it all came together, but the whole performance was given added kick by augmenting the number of double basses thanks to orchestral arranger Nelson Riddle. Whether recorded 'in concert' or in the studio, Frank's collaboration with Riddle on this Cole Porter classic is considered definitive, with this version powering through to claim first place.
His technic and potency were so incredible that he could be heard perfectly even when he was singing low notes while the orchestra was really loud behind. What an artist! Can you imagine being in that room while singing/conducting/playing? You are doing your thing while all these sounds coming from everywhere are filling your ears... It is probably like getting high. Must be good for the soul.
Some vocalists sing along with the music, some fight the music, some try to enhance the music using gimmicky "stylistic techniques". Frank was in COMMAND of the music every step of the way and moved the composition where HE wanted it to go. And he made it look so easy. That's the difference between a "singer" and an "artist".
You are so right -- there are a lot of singers out there today, but most of them are NOT artists, either in their presentation of the song or the way they sing it, all over the keyboard trying to improve on a song, often off pitch, it would be very rare indeed to see a singer today as all-around an artist as Sinatra. Some try, but they cannot compete with the greatest of all time!
There will never, ever be another Frank Sinatra. The love ❤️ of my life , was a man like Frank. He idolized Frank. He walked like him dresses like him & yes looked like him. My love was an Italian (neopolitan). He passed 1/14/2000. He is “still” forever in my heart. Just a “Good Man” forever !

He's actually the ultimate expression of the big band. His voice was what a clarinet was for Benny Goodman or a piano to Teddy Wilson. He is the lead "instrumentalist" of the band. His instrument is his voice. His uncanny sense of timing was due to his symbiotic relationship with the band.
Just imagine how much respect he must have had to be given this set-up, the set and the full orchestra, back when that sort of thing was unheard of, especially for singers of "standards." Just amazing, and thank goodness the man's work at his peak was preserved like that.
Sinatra had it all...an amazing voice, perfect voice control and an ability to interpret the words just as the songwriter had written them. Their will never be another Sinatra. ❤
Voice beauty and control (a man capable of leading an orchestra). He dominates the stage, cameras. Feels the music and speaks every word clearly. He seems to be ready for action at anytime. Opens his mouth and the tone is there. Realy impressive.
Besides his incredibly unique and suave voice and method of singing, I’m so impressed to never once hear him sing the same song the same way… he changes the melody, the rhythm, the accents, even the lyrics seemingly every time effortlessly.
Not only did he frequently sang the same song exactly the same way, he even recreated the same precise gestures. A total pro, knowing his audience expected certain things. Nothing wrong with that.
@@silentlou4375 Anyone with a keen ear and been a fan for decades could tell Frank had a very established business, people loved it just the way it was, he was locked into the world's best pop arrangements, and it was pointless to change. His audience knew exactly what to expect... not a bad thing.
when you get down to basics he could reach deep in to a song and deliver it better than anyone else. the composers were deeply devoted to frank once he chose to do their song. he selected what he thought was the best. so it went both ways.
