      As gimmicky as it sounds it can be very useful for optimising power between cpu and gpu. Lenovo uses this and it works pretty well , similar to AMD's smartshift

    I purchased 6 MSI laptops for my company in this price class a coupole years ago. Talking about the Ryzen 4800U era, along with some Intel i7 machines of the same era. Got them for about $900 each, regularly $1300 ish, thanks Costco. They are used as playback devices in live production; think ProPresenter, Powerpoint, Mitti etc. These are always connected to an extended external displays, and one major weak point is the HDMI port. They are not robust at all and have have multiple hardware issues. That said, there are multiple grubby fingers that interface with these machines, but only six or so people. Anyone else has issue with these machines?

      Ehhh personally mine's been great for nearly 9 years now, I bought my Dominator all the way back in 2015. My first and probably my only (high end) gaming laptop since I switched to TUF last year, my only problem is the battery that I had to replace since it crapped out after 3 or 4 years. The rest works almost perfectly (although a little bit slower) the last time I boot it up not 6 months ago. It gave me years and years of hardcore gaming and cad works throughout, I'd probably still play on it had the spec can keep up with modern AAA. I did take care of it well repasting every year and dusting every 2 - 3 months thoroughly, now I gave it to my little cousin and to my knowledge he's still having a blast playing some multiplayer titles on it.

    having dealt with similar laptop builds from other vendors over the years, throwing 240w of hardware is going to require a serious vapor chamber setup that I just do not seriously think is going to be there with how thin this machine is. I expect 90c+ thermals, since this is Intel powered also throttling. Also AMD has mobile X3D CPUs that will give Intel's 14th gen mobile a serious run for its money.

    The MSI specs seem to indicate the Titan 18 HX can go up to 192GB of 5600 DDR5 RAM. You say 128GB. You show 4 slots for RAM which is understandable that 128GB is limit for 4 slots, but, because MSI says 192GB 5600 DDR5 is available, are there 2 slots for RAM hidden under keyboard? ASUS did that with some models with 2 slots with easy access on very bottom and then 2 RAM slots under keyboard that needed a bit more extra disassembly.
    Something else you don't tell us is what gen SSD each M.2 spot supports. The GT77 Titan has two gen 4, and one gen 5 bay for M.2 SSD.
    Does the Titan 18 HX support gen 5 for all of its SSD M.2 bays, or is it like the Titan GT77 with two gen 4 bays and one gen 5 bay?
    Thank you if you can answer all of these. :)

    • @pragmaticvfx
      @pragmaticvfx 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Base config is 128GB but you can use 48GB sticks to get 192GB RAM total. There are 4 DDR5 slots. 1 gen5, 2 gen4 M.2 slots.

    What I don't like about the idea of AI managing cpu power (regardless of how true it is) is that it invites unpredictable/inconsistent/ unwanted behaviour that could be basically impossible to solve.

    • @jamesm.2322
      @jamesm.2322 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Look at AMD Smart shift, as it does the same thing they are trying to do here. Shift/sapping power from the CPU or GPU(or vise versa) is a good theory on paper, but modern Windows operating systems are still not fast enough to compensate for the power shift. Any laptop that sports Smart shift, AI driven power polling, or anything under the hood that is not going to run Linux(official support) I would avoid completely. Unless the feature can be disabled at the BIOS level.

    What we actually want from a gaming laptop.
    This is a PC replacement we do not want gamer style workstations. We have powerful laptops that look good also in the public.
    Why cant we have an alumium or high qualty plastic laptops without the RBG and massive logos and crazy looking exhuast vents that are highlighted in red with designs.
    I dont care if my laptop is thick if that means better performance i just dont want those ugly ass fan cutout designs that asus does with the roman numerals looks so childish.
    We dont want secret hiding messages around the laptop in its design or text. Just a professional looking laptop.
    Look at the new 2024 Asus Zeph G16 looks great but why make it so thin same thickness would of been perfect with its new design...

    Thanks, I turn of ALL of the tap features on the trackpad for my work laptops and I don't use a laptop at home. Why do I turn them off? Because hovering my finger over the trackpad causes it to click on things I don't want to click on. I use the click at the bottom corners of the track pads, but I would prefer physical buttons. What happened to physical buttons? Well, the laptop makers decided they cost too much and sold everyone on the idea of getting rid of the buttons so that you could have a bigger track pad. This MSI haptic thing looks super nice but I will never buy one because I would HAVE to use the double tap the track pad to click on things.

      @@Bizarny Who said anything about a fucking conspiracy ya f'n ignit.
      THAT IS HOW BUSINESS WORKS BECAUSE THAT IS HOW BUSINESS SCHOOL TEACHES IT. Cut every cost you can and sell for as high a price as you can.
      I remember when I was getting my Bachelor's degree in Business Management the Accounting text book said "Most CEO's come from the accounting department because the accounting department understands how every department runs." That is absolutely one of the most conceited and outright false statements I have ever read and it was in the textbook. Corporate accountants only understand the costs of each department. It is far easier to calculate the costs of something than the benefits of something. This is why employee training has been reduced to OJT in most places. The accountants calculate no cost for OJT training but see classroom training as x number of hours of waste labor costs (both OJT and classroom training are necessary because both cover things you won't see in the other training). The accountants know how to calculate the benefits of the classroom training, but the calculation is more complicated so they don't bother. Likewise, this is why companies are so big to have layoffs. The accounting department sees the labor cost of having the employees on payroll but they don't bother with calculating the loss of capability of the business by getting rid of a large number of employees (I've been through multiple layoffs, the people who made the decision never know that the person the are laying off is the only person that knows how to do "x thing"). Likewise the accountants see the track pad buttons as costing say $0.15 per laptop and the know people want bigger trackpads. Rather than create a good solution they have the engineers create a bad workaround and the customer suffers because they are thinking they got a better produce when they actually got a less useful product. Why hasn't anyone put track pad buttons to the left or right of the track pad where they can be pressed with the thumb? This would keep the vertical space of the trackpad and make use of the wasted space to the left and the right of the trackpad.
