    I just set my screensaver as album art... Set it to the maximum number of rows and found out that if you move your mouse over the screen, a play button appears on each cover, which is a cool way of also having tunes while your screensaver is on .... Awesome!!!

    Hey Gary,
    Really love your videos. Although I'm a Mac user since 1995 and know a bit about these wonderful machines, I'm still learning a lot with your videos.
    One question: is it possible for you to give us the links where you get those icons and in particular that desktop background?
    Really appreciate that
    Thank you

    Gary - it's me, Ray from Aldus. Loooong time back (if you don't remember, it was in passing - I mentioned Aldus mostly for a time reference). Glad you are still teaching. This is the BEST MAC channel on TH-cam (I've tried most) and I've picked up some useful tips, stuff I didn't know. I'm still computing, now for food, beer and fun - haven't had this much fun ever. Good to see you, hope all is well for you and yours. Later...

    I'm kind of old school. I make my desktop background gray like the original Macintosh 128k. Mainly, it's because I like a neutral, minimal desktop that doesn't distract from what I'm working on. I do use photos for wallpaper on my iPads, though, since it's never visible when I'm in an app.

    Gary-Another tremendous video that is helping me use my Mac Air much better. Regarding desktop background, how can I apply photos on my phone and have them in a Mac folder? How can I transfer those photos or only photos I want ask a desktop background? Finally I learned how to change the highlight/accent color! I was bored with the default 😎. And the widget notification. HUGE! Again, thank you for the knowledge

    These are some reasons why I am considering the switch from Windows to Mac. Thanks for the upload. Could you please consider producing a video, demonstrating how a particular software (in my case 'Quicken for Windows') would run on a Mac using Parallels?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's not much to show. You buy Parallels, buy Windows, go through their steps installing both, and then install your software (Quicken) inside the running version of Windows. Then launch Parallels/Windows each time you want to run Quicken. It is way cheaper and easier to just by Quicken for Mac. So I'm not sure why you would want to do it. Or, isn't there a Quicken online too?

    • @60beats44
      @60beats44 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Thank you very much for your extensive reply. Quicken for Mac has mixed reviews investorjunkie.com/reviews/quicken-mac/ and is now entirely based on an expensive annual subscription model (I have a perpetual license). It has no Australian version and also does not handle multiple currencies. I have never witnessed someone opening a program in Parallels, so I thought that with you seemingly having it installed on your Mac, that could be a subject for one of your future presentations. What I am most interested in is a possibility to start my Windows dependant programs straight from the Apple Apps bar, without having to look at the Windows deskop screen. Whilst there are MS Excel and MS Word Mac versions available, I also have to carry MS Access, MS Publisher, PC Coach, Articulate Studio and other non-native Windows programs across, therefore my nervousness regaring this contemplated switch.

    Great ideas! Question…How would I go about adding dictation to my dock bar?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You wouldn't add it to the Dock because it isn't an app. Dictation is a function that use inside of apps. Like "typing" or "clicking." What is it you want to DO, exactly?

    • @dhippler3495
      @dhippler3495 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Omg..so cool! Thanks for responding. I use dictation a lot to transcribe notes and I guess I am just looking for a way to put a shortcut to it on my dock.

    Great video, as usual, thanks! I don't have that "list icon" on my menu bar, and I can't figure out how to get it there. It doesn't appear when I go into system preferences "Dock and Menu Bar" and google was no help.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which icon do you mean, exactly? Maybe specify a time in the video to point it out.

    • @ripley2009
      @ripley2009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost You refer to it and click on it at 9:06 minutes when you say "You can bring up notification center widgets" and you click on the last icon on the right side of the menu bar.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ripley2009 That's the notifications button. This video was made in 2020 with macOS Catalina. Since then, macOS has had two updates and you now just click on the Date/Time that is in the same location.

    • @ripley2009
      @ripley2009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Thanks! It's surprising how many little things change from one release to another. I had tried clicking on the date, but my notification screen looked different from yours... I’d like to add a photo to a stickie. As you said, size is important. How can I make a photo smaller so that the stickie isn’t 2/3 of my screen? :)

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the Photo is in the Photos app, export at the smaller size. If it is a file, open in Preview and resize there. You can also use any image editing app: Acorn, Pixelmator, Photoshop, etc etc.

    • @macmost

      Not without some third-party app. And even then you are looking for a lot of processor/energy use so I would avoid that.

    "just keep it short"" Ha! Back in the old days (System 8, I think) we downloaded some interesting alert sounds from AOL. One was from Ren and Stimpy I think, that was nearly fifteen seconds long: "I have a dream… that one day everyone will know the wonder of my nipples!" We set that up as a gag once and my wife's ex, when he heard it, tried to get it to stop by clicking on things and hitting keys which of course queued up the alert again each and every time so that it took almost fifteen minutes for it to quiet down again, all the time with us yelling at him to stop typing and clicking.
